Draft Class Review - pre-RELEASE
By Darryl Breckheimer

I doubt I'm alone... I can't wait to see the Draft Class released (supposedly we'll see it 11-7-22 before 9pm CST). I haven't had any insight to what we could be instore for from an attribute standpoint - but I spent some time looking at names and dreaming of what we might be getting!!!

The Quarterback class has potential to be outstanding! At the top of the class you have Blake Bortles, Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater… all who are drafted in the first round of the NFL draft. It’s no secret that age is now a major factor when reviewing talent all three of these players are 22 years of age or younger. The next tier of quarterbacks would include Derek Carr (23 years old) and Jimmy Garoppolo (22 years old).

I anticipate the running back class to be weak! I suspect Carlos Hyde from the University of Ohio state could have some potential he was drafted in the second round of the NFL draft. Other players that might be worthy of a pick in the top three rounds would include Bishop Sankey and Jeremy Hill.

We all know the position of wide receiver is always sexy when it comes to drafting in the SFL. It would come as no surprise to me if we were to see at least five players picked in the first round of the SFL draft (like we saw in the NFL). Looking at the measurable’s, I am going to guess Mike Evans goes very early!

They say the battle is won in the trenches… if that’s the case offensively the likes of Greg Robinson, Jake Matthews, Taylor Lewan, Zach Martin and Ja’Wuan James should be sought after early.

Defensively upfront this class is a little thinner. But there is some elite talent that can be had early in Jadeveon Clowney, Aaron Donald and Dominique Easley.

Personally I feel the stock of talent at linebacker in the SFL (currently) is bloated. That will mean very little when it comes to drafting and GM’s will not be able to resist to draft the likes of Khalil Mack, Anthony Barr, Ryan Shazier and CJ Mosley.

In reviewing the defensive back rookies in the upcoming class… Color me unimpressed! There are a few names that are recognizable but I wouldn’t say many stood out as great options. I think Kyle Fuller, Ha Ha Clinton Dix and Darqueze Dennard are probably first round options but beyond that it’s a crapshoot.

I consider the following positions tight end, fullback, kicker and punter has the odds and ends. In the mix of positions tight end Eric Ebron is probably the only name and talent that will be worthwhile picking in the top two rounds.
