PICK | TEAM | PLAYER | ANALYSIS |
1.01 | | WR Mike Evans | This is the worst kept secret of the offseason; Mike Evans was always going to go first overall, the only question was whether the Rams would select him or not. It sounds like a couple offers were made, but St. Louis will make him their stud receiver. |
1.02 | | CB Kyle Fuller | I imagine that the Titans will want to bring in a quality cornerback with this selection -- someone to pair with Casey Heyward. Fuller is the best secondary player in the draft, so he likely becomes the pick at this spot. |
1.03 | | QB Derek Carr | We all know why the Patriots traded up -- Tom Brady has retired and they need someone new to hand the reigns over to. The question is whether the pick is Carr or Bridgewater, but Carr seems to be the hot money in Vegas. |
1.04 | | WR Kelvin Benjamin | The Panthers haven't had a solid receiver in years, so finally drafting one at the top of the draft may be the direction they should go. Kelvin Benjamin is Mike Evans Lite, so if you're GM Phil Mellon you're not mad at this at all. |
1.05 | | LE Jadeveon Clowney | You have to wonder who GM Rock Hewko wants so bad that he moved all the way into the Top 5 for and gave up a stud receiver for. Looking over the class, I feel the answer has to be Clowney based on his strength, weight and potential positive skew. |
1.06 | | LT Taylor Lewan | It's not like GM Apolo Shapiro to pass on a quality player, especially when there is a big hole at Right Tackle. Whether he's going with Big Ben or another quarterback, Lewan will be important to protect that signal caller. |
1.07 | | CB Stanley Jean-Baptiste | This is obviously skew dependent, but Stanley Jean-Baptiste has appeared a stud in almost every league and this GM knows that! His 6'2" frame is unique and I think he goes earlier than some people are suggesting. |
1.08 | | WR Kevin Norwood | The Falcons are going to need some receiving threats if they're going to progress quarterback Ryan Tannehill. There are a couple directions they could go, but I think the pick here would be Kevin Norwood, who is tall, smart, and athletic. |
1.09 | | SS Jonathan Dowling | Rodany knocked this out of the park in his mock draft -- Dowling has GM Rock Hewko written all over him and will instantly become a starter for a Seattle defense that once again is fighting for their GM's job. |
1.10 | | CB Justin Gilbert | This Cardinals team is stacked. So what do you do? You acquire another cornerback, as you can never have too much depth at the position. Gilbery will be solid too and though he's not towering (like SJB), he's a quality height and should be a stud in the league. |
1.11 | | LE Demarcus Lawrence | I'm not going to lie, I love Demarcus Lawrence. If he's available at 1.11 I will likely pull the trigger on him. It's unlikely he's still there, but this is my own personal fantasy and I'm drafting him here. |
1.12 | | CB Dontae Johnson | I expect GM Brad Barber is going to see his 6'2" frame and won't be able to say no. Obviously, he could have a bad skew, but Johnson should be going in the first round. I'd hate to see him in Oakland, but too hard to pass him up. |
1.13 | | CB Pierre Desir | This is about where I would expect the run on cornerbacks to begin. In fact, you could even say "run on secondary," starting with pick 1.09. The positions are valuable and the Browns need to shore up the future of their secondary. |
1.14 | | WR Jarvis Landry | This seems like a very consistent pick for GM Nathan Jones. Players like Landry have seen a lot of success in his offense, despite it usually being "run first." Landry is a stud who could easily go higher than this. |
1.15 | | HB Carlos Hyde | Nothing unique about this selection -- everybody else thinks it too. The Cowboys have no running back and a very good offensive line. That likely means this is the first place a running back goes and GM Anthony Cepparulo seems like the type of person to take a run at Hyde. |
1.16 | | LT Jake Matthews | This may be a bit late of Matthews, but this is a dynamite selection. The Redskins need to shore up their offensive line and there is no reason why Matthews cannot start on day one. They knock this out of the park. |
1.17 | | WR Martavis Bryant | 6'4" and fast? Sign me up! Or better yet, sign up the New York Jets who finally have a franchise quarterback in....Mark Sanchez? Uh oh. All jokes aside, this pick ain't a fumble, nor will it be the butt of a joke. |
1.18 | | CB Antone Exum Jr. | I've lost track of who has which pick, but I think this is still accurate. The Vikings have put Sean Smith on the block, and while a trade seems unlikely (near on impossible), that may mean they're targeting another cornerback in this draft. |
1.19 | | CB Kenneth Acker | This will be a consistent pick. I imagine the Ravens are wanting to draft a top talent at cornerback, but with the big names off the board, they may take a gander on Acker who has decent frame and could look really good with a positive skew. |
1.20 | | LT Justin Britt | The Vikings like strong offensive linemen and Justin Britt fits that mold. Once again, it might be a bit late, but offensive linemen tend to drop in drafts as of late. This would be a great pickup for the Twin Cities. |
1.21 | | HB Bishop Sankey | At some point this offseason, another running back is going to be selected by the Chargers. If it's in the draft, it might be Bishop Sankey. Despite being undersized (not an issue for GM William Cook), the rest of his numbers appear decent. |
1.22 | | WR Jared Abbrederis | We're deep into the second tier of wide receivers, so this really becomes "pick your poison." I think GM Brent Lachapelle would trend toward Abbrederis for his selection, although this could easily be another receiver and I wouldn't bat an eye. |
1.23 | | CB Walt Aikens | The big knock on Aikens is his awareness, but with a good mentor and a patient GM (which Chicago has), Aikens could easily become a top cornerback in the league. He'll be raw to start, but should be able to keep up with the fastest receivers. |
1.24 | | ROLB Marcus Smith | I mentioned earlier that offensive tackles tend to drop. Another position that consistently drops is linebacker. The Jaguars will reap the reward this season and bring Marcus Smith down to Florida to wreck opposing defenses. |
1.25 | | WR Donte Moncrief | The Broncos are all in on developing Chandler Harnish, and that means getting him fancy new toys. Moncrief will be able to play opposite the newly acquired A.J. Green and give Denver an offense that will make their divisional opponents weep. |
1.26 | | MLB Prince Shembo | The Panthers have drafted linebackers well (see: Bobby Wagner). They do have an aging middle linebacker, however, so Shembo may be the best selection for them this let in the draft. It's good value and he should start right away. |
1.27 | | RG Zack Martin | Martin is an athletic offensive lineman, something that we're used to seeing, but Martin is a different breed. He should be able to start right away, but with his low speed is likely a better option on the interior of the line. |
1.28 | | DT Daniel McCullers | Big, fast, and strong. This is exactly the type of defensive tackle that GM Kevin Mullendore likes to draft. DTs typically go later in the draft, but this seems like the correct value and draft placement for McCullers. |
1.29 | | CB Bradley Roby | This may be a homer pick, but Roby just belongs in a Broncos jersey. He's only 5'11", but he's got the rest of the intangibles and as the draft begins to dry up, selections like this will become more commonplace. Roby to Denver may start another run on cornerbacks. |
1.30 | | RT Joel Bitonio | AF told it true -- I both know how to draft offensive linemen and enjoy drafting them. Bitonio would be my target at this point, though I don't know where he would start on the line. I'd find a place though. |
1.31 | | ROLB Trent Murphy | I highly doubt that some GMs will be able to ignore the 6'6" frame that is Trent Murphy, along with his weight. Murphy looks like an absolute stud and now I think he may even go earlier. Heck, I may look at him. |
1.32 | | CB Darqueze Dennard | The Cowboys just cut their veteran cornerbacks (aren't you glad I left you those salaries...you've never mentioned it). Dennard is the best cornerback left, so he seems like a good fit for the Cowboys at this juncture. |
