PICK | TEAM | PLAYER | ANALYSIS |
1.01 | | WR Mike Evans | There are two slam dunks in this draft, Mike Evans and Derek Carr. GM Felipe Santos already made it clear Evans is the guy. No gamesmanship from this guy, he hasn't played it the same way his friend Apolo would. Regardless, Evans is a stud at 6'5" with 98 SPD, and only age 21. He will be hanging around for a long while! |
1.02 | | QB Derek Carr | GM Briston Redford is typically pretty quiet on Discord, and even with transactions. The moves to leap to 1.02 should have been a glaring sign that the Patriots were not wasting any time replacing retired QB Tom Brady. Carr is one of the best QB prospects we have seen. |
1.03 | | CB Kyle Fuller | This is a tough call between taking an OL and CB. I am predicting that Apolo goes with a CB here because he has multiple 1st round picks and will value a big time position like CB over OL. You don't want to miss on a top 5 pick, and I wonder if Apolo is confident enough taking an OL. No slight, we all have strengths and weaknesses. For the record I wouldn't take an OL in the top 3 either. I think there are a handful of good CBs, but Fuller looks to be one of the most athletic and game ready. While the Titans acquired Stanford Routt this off-season, that's a short-term solution and still need to find the long-term answer alongside CB Casey Heyward. |
1.04 | | WR Kelvin Benjamin | Another hot seater, Philip Mellon hung onto his future 1st and it pays off as they're drafting in the top 5. He's been quiet this off-season with just 2 signings in RE Dwight Freeney and backup TE Jeremy Shockey. They also traded QB Michael Vick away, but 88 AWR Drew Stanton is expected to be the guy. I think WR is the pick here. I was thinking DE, but with the signing of Freeney, I'm betting he goes back to LE and they leave Tommie Harris at RE. Harris has been very productive with 27 TFLs in the past 2 seasons, hard to argue with that kind of production. While I'm kind of confident that Philip takes a WR, I'm not very confident it's this WR. |
1.05 | | LE Demarcus Lawrence | It's tough to predict what Rock will do. He loves physical freaks and will ignore size, especially at WR and CB. But his starting LE for years, Orien Harris, was a big bodied guy. Is that his preference? Hard to tell as Rock doesn't come through Discord often. Since size typically isn't prioritized, I think it's Lawrence over Jadeveon Clowney as he's the more athletic of the two. |
1.06 | | LT Taylor Lewan | The guy that may have given Apolo some difficulty at 1.03 is still there at 1.06. Lewan would fill an immediate hole for a team on the hot seat. But can he pull the trigger? I still wonder if he has his sights on Teddy Bridgewater now that he has Ben Roethlisberger who is eligible to be a mentor and traded his mentee in Matt Barkley. Winning now should be prioritized, else he's collecting all these elite players for a different GM. |
1.07 | | CB Stanley Jean-Baptiste | After trading Aaron Ross to Indianapolis for cap relief, the Packers turn around and draft a CB with the pick they received. They did not replace him in free agency or any other trades, so this should be a slam dunk pick. |
1.08 | | WR Cody Lattimer | I think the Falcons are after a WR this off-season now that they're onto Ryan Tannehill. I don't know who that WR would be. I want to think that Garth prioritizes height, but I'm not sure how he feels about the other guys. Kevin Norwood has the athleticism, but will he chance the lower CTH and poor INJ? This WR class can be strong if the athleticism trumps the other downfalls some of these guys have. |
1.09 | | WR Jarvis Landry | As I mentioned before, size doesn't matter to Rock at WR. He took Michael Crabtree at 1.04 and Emmanuel Sanders at 1.09. Does he need Landry here? Probably not. But the athleticism will be appealing to him and may be too much for him to pass over. |
1.10 | | CB Justin Gilbert | I was wondering what I left myself and was tempted to go with QB Teddy Bridgewater here. Gilbert would be a good pick in the top 10. Jadeveon Clowney continues to fall, but with Malik Jackson and super underrated RE Tank Carradine, who could be a starting LE on a lot of teams, the need isn't there. There's lots of talent left that could be taken here. Maybe you should make me an offer for the pick. |
1.11 | | LE Jadeveon Clowney | There's been too many moves on this team this off-season for me to figure out what the plan is. Not a good sign Billy! They still have a need at DE and so the Jadeveon Clowney fall will end. I think the Chargers would be happy to see him last this long. I don't know if it will happen, but seems too good to be true in this mock. Unfortunately, the team is looking at 2nd place in the AFC West as the Broncos return to favor this year. |
1.12 | | WR Kevin Norwood | Another AFC West team competing for 2nd place, I originally was thinking Brad Barber would want an OL here, but after signing THREE LGs, I think they will rock with what they've got. WR is a position that doesn't have any standouts after Carlton Mitchell. Norwood could be incredible value. If he goes down with an injury there will be a lot of "told you so" comments in Discord. |
1.13 | | CB Dontae Johnson | Looking at this Browns team you can clearly see they need CBs badly! Their only 2 CBs were actually acquired by me. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was a #3 at best and was really more of a throw-in to balance a trade. Josh Lay was someone I had high hopes for when I traded a 1st round pick for him. But he's now age 31 and on the way down. |
1.14 | | WR Ryan Grant | The Saints are typically a run first team, at least that's how I've always perceived them. I don't think Saints GM Nathan Jones has drafted a WR in the 1st round in the SFL. I believe the closest was James Jones in the 2nd round, but it was so long ago and draft classes have gotten stronger since then, so it's difficult to gauge what he values in a WR. I think Grant is a good WR and very similar to Jarvis Landry who went 5 picks early. |
1.15 | | SS Jonathan Dowling | The Cowboys are in good shape with no obviously glaring holes for them to address. I was thinking WR, but so many have gone that I'm not sure the value is there at this spot. I think Dowling could be an upgrade over T.J. Ward, who is age 27, 86 SPD and 61 AWR. I have to imagine if Dowling is here he's definitely a top target for GM Anthony Fernandez, who never rebooted the RZL like he promised. |
1.16 | | LT Jake Matthews | The Redskins are a very aging team and it looks like they're not far from a total rebuild, even if GM Bill Ryan isn't ready to go that route. There are a lot of positions I think Bill could target, but I believe one of the best values at this point is Matthews. Maybe it's because I have a soft spot for him from the NAFL days, but he's a very polished OL. If Bill was ready to start preparing for the future, this would be a great landing spot for QB Teddy Bridgewater who could be groomed by Carson Palmer. |
1.17 | | ROLB Kevin Pierre-Louis | I think the Mark Sanchez trade was a huge win for the Jets. They no longer need to worry about developing a future QB, he's starting for them. I will never correctly predict Kevin's pick, he's always targeting someone not on my radar that ends up being a monster. This guy is on my radar, but I think he's so good that it's a no-brainer here. Having a very good roster enables a GM like Kevin Mullendore to go with BPA and I think Pierre-Louis is clearly one of the best available with 85 SPD, 81 STR and 88 ACC. |
1.18 | | QB Teddy Bridgewater | Another team I don't enjoy mocking picks to, only because the excellent rosters are hard to find holes on. But a lot has changed for the Vikings this year thanks to the retirement of Daunte Culpepper! It's now the Michael Vick show, but that's a short term option. The nostalgia of Teddy two gloves being picked by the Vikings is too much for Neal Wintermute. |
1.19 | | RT Joel Bitonio | Another tough decision here picking a player for a very good team. Bitonio hasn't gotten the hype but I think he could be a pretty good OL. It's not necessarily a need for Norbert, but some of his OL is getting a bit older and the value is good. |
1.20 | | LOLB Marcus Smith | One glimpse at the roster and you see they have no ROLB. With the rookie position change rule allowing side-to-side moves without an AWR hit, Smith could flip to ROLB at no penalty. He's got size, speed, strength, athleticism and only 21-years-old. Seems like a very good selection this late in the 1st. |
