My favorite picks from round 1
By Brad Barber

Man I love draft day! Like usual you knever know what to expect, nobody but Tom knew the Jets were going to select Todd Gurley 2nd overall (great pick btw Kevin) and it had a ripple affect on much of the draft.

I never would have guessed another QB not named "crab legs" would have went in round 1 but we had not 1, not 2 but 3 total QB's go in round 1, UNREAL! I love it though because I'm a GM who loves to draft and develop young QB's so it's cool to see some GM's who don't really like the grooming process go that route, good on you guys!

We had a guard go top 10... I'm not sure if that's a first or not but it has to be up there. I really liked marpet but would never have guessed top 10, that's why we love you Rock and that's why this league is so awesome, 32 different minded GM's who do it THEIR way, love it.

In my opinion this is 1 of the most competitive first rounds we've had in some time and like Neal stated on the talk how last night and I agree with him, I don't think anybody made their team worse yesterday but here are my top 10, I might list them in order of how they were drafted but in reality there really isn't an order just how they fell in the draft compared to my list.

MY FAVORITE PICKS OF ROUND 1:

1.5- CB Byron Jones- UConn
I had CB Byron Jones as the #2 overall pick on my board and to get the #2 overall pick at #5 is exceptional value in my opinion. I'm sure it would cost a pretty penny moving from 1.5 to 1.2 so that's what I see in value. I'm not sure what his actual workout was since I didn't see it listed on the forum but he looks like an absolute stud to me with 99/99/99 potential at 6'1", it's a shame he went to a division rival or i would have liked it more Razz .

1.7- QB Jameis "Crab Legs" Winston- Florida State
There are some GM's who are going to scoff at this pick but the days of picking up 38 year old QB's and having them all play like Peyton Manning (IRL) are over, the regression is going to take many GM's out of their comfort zones and start grooming young QB's because guys like Leftwich, Vick etc are already at like 85 THP, unless you pick a playbook with only 5 yard slant routes then you'll be left in the dust. I figured more people would be trading up to select Winston (Was good to hear Breck actually tried numerous times to jump the Jags). He is a stud franchise QB in the making, only 21 years old, 6'4" 231 lbs with 79 STR, 69 starting AWR (It took me a full mentorship to get my QB to 69 AWR), it looks like he'll be a balanced QB but I'd give him the tendency anyways and make him into a pocket passer. 98 THP and 78 THA is a great start, hell of a pick here.

1.12- OT Brandon Scherff- Iowa
Almost always the top OT in the draft is a top 10 pick , I think Taylor lewan went 7th overall and if I'm not mistaken the Ravens took Mathews number 9 overall? Don't quote me on that. Regardless they get the top rated OT on my board for 1.12 , making it a reasonable contract for a stud player. 6'5" 319 lbs. 73 SPD, 99 STR, 64 AWR, 78 AGI, 78 ACC, 80 PBK, 87 RBK is a fantastic value for a plug and play franchise OT, he should start day 1 and be another dominant player for the dirty crows.

1.13- CB Eric Rowe- Utah
Rowe looked really good on paper but looks gorgeous after the workout and no beer goggles this time. At 6'1' , he'll tap out at 99 SPD/96 AGI/99 ACC if gary decides to boost his attributes, 54 AWR is good enough (Again I started rookie CB Johnson the entire season and I thought he was my best corner in most games, again like Will stated it's not saying much but I'll throw it out there anyways), he already has elite JMP at 92, his hands are abysmal and will definitely need to be worked on but other than that I feel this is a great selection in the pass happy NFC North.

1.14- RB Melvin Gordon- Wisconsin
I really liked both RB Todd Gurley and Melvin Gordon when the draft class came out, I was fixated on both but knew I most likely had no shot which is why I went after a RB in ME FA. Both are very similar, both are big bruising backs but I gravitated to Gordon just a little bit only due to the INJ of Gurley, I think he skews down to 71 I believe and I take that very seriously after my drafting of QB Brohm only to have him injured every game. Gordon has 92 SPD, 83 STR, 63 AWR, 91 AGI, 95 ACC , 76 CAR, 88 BTK 89 STA, 92 INJ which means he can top out at 95 SPD, 94 AGI, 98 ACC for a power back that is insane, I just imagine a bowling ball knocking pins out of the way left and right.

1.16- CB Tevaughn Campbell- Rowan
My initial thoughts of the CB class were kind of meh, many low AWR guys who were athletic but if you save your PW then you can find gems like Campbell, he has a chance of 99 SPD/98 AGI/99 ACC, his 55 AWR isn't terrible, his JMP is elite, this is usually like a top 10 CB in most drafts but I think AWR has a bunch of GM's scared. I do think AWR matters but I also know sometimes athleticism or height takes over more than the AWR, not all the time but I know I try and get guys with higher AWR if possible but it's not mandatory. This was a great value pick imo for the Vikings who already have a really good roster.

1.19- WR Devante Parker- Louisville
I was very close to taking Parker over Clay at 1.18, I really like his size at 6'3" , he can top out at 99 SPD, 92 AGI, 98 ACC to go along with 86 CTH is a hell of a duo top pair with Josh Gordon who coincidentally I compared him to when I was evaluating who to take and when you look at the side by side comparison you literally got Josh Gordon 2.0 14 spots lower though which is pretty incredible considering all the mocks had him no lower than 1.9.

1.28- DE Preston Smith- Mississippi State
It's hard to fathom how a guy that wen't top 10 in just about every mock draft falls this far? It took everything i had not to select Smith at 1.26 but the need just wasn't there but as I look at rosters I couldn't believe he made it to the texans at 1.28, I know the AWR is absolutely gross but as an owner of several dumb DL, I don't think it really matters for pass rushers to be honest, his workout was 86 SPD, 88 STR, 35 AWR, 84 AGI, 83 ACC, 57 TAK, the guy will top out at 89 SPD, 91 STR, 87 AGI, 86 ACC, that's absolutley filthy in the nicest way possible and he's 6'5" 265 lbs not a little midget like Will's LE, he's about to be 7 SPD and 4 AGI faster than Lawrence who went 1.11, 17 picks later!!!! Holy shit the Wade Pearce must be jumping for joy!

1.30- TE Tyler Kroft- Rutgers
Another head scratcher here, several teams could have benefited from a stud like Kroft another 1 of the big 6'5" 247 lbs game changing tight ends who went no lower than 1.23 in the mock drafts which I thought was low. So when 1.26 pick came up for me it was between WR Geremy Davis, TE Tyler Kroft and DE Preston Smith, I would have had to trade TE Bohanon in order for me to make this deal so i couldn't do it but he was very intriguing with 87 SPD, 73 STR, 49 AWR, 84 AGI, 91 ACC, 71 CTH topping out at 90 SPD, 87 AGI, 94 ACC, there are 0 TE's in this league using fit the system with those measurables at any size, Bohanon is close but he is truly 1 of a kind and he goes to the gross Chiefs, what the hell is wrong with you people? lol Lucky for us he has Tannehill throwing to him so he will fade away into the sunset but it could have been real disasterous otherwise!

SHOUT OUT- I LIKED ALL THE OLB SELECTED IN ROUND 1
I LIKED ALL OF THE OLB SELECTED IN ROUND 1 i JUST DIDN'T LIST THEM BECAUSE OF THE WEIRD COULD BE MINUS 3 FOR SPD SO IT'S TOO RISKY FOR ME IMO.
