Here is an early look at some of the top prospects and how they rank for the upcoming SFL Draft. Definitely subject to change by draft day. You will get the names of all of college footballs top 5 studs at each position on defense minus kickers and punters since they aren't people too in this article.
CB/S
This class should have some standout corners including top CB from Florida State Jalen Ramsey, he's a tall corner standing at 6'1" 209 lbs. so he should be on just about every GM's list, he was the first starter at Florida State to start as a freshman since Deion Sanders. The next 3 corners on the list could be a 1A, B and C type of deal since all are in the same mold, were talking about the Houston ballhawk William Jackson where he had 43 tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss, 5 INT with 2 returned for a TD. Third on the list is yet another tall CB from Ohio State Eli Apple with his 6'1" 198 lbs frame, he also had a very productive 2014 picking off 3 passes, also running a fumble back for a TD. Next up is the hard hitting DB from Florida Keanu Neal, he is an old school Ronnie Lott type that GM's will love. The last player on this list is very similar to Neal and an S Karl Joseph, he's only 5'11" 197 lbs but don't let his small frame fool you, he is not only a tackling machine that will knock your block off but can also pick off arrant passes.
LB
There are some decent prospects it looks like in this class like the very athletic OLB Jaylen Smith word out on the street though is that he may be prone to injury but you can't believe everything you hear or read. Then we have ILB Myles Jack, the 6'1" 245 lbs. thumper from UCLA should be a tackling machine that can play in either the 3-4 or 4-3 who should be an excellent coverage LB. The 3rd LB on this list is OLB Darren Lee, he may be the most athletic LB we've seen in a very long time, more of a smallish speed LB , most likely a 4-3 only player. Next we have the old school 6'1" 247 lbs Reggie Ragland, he is most definitely more suited for the 3-4 and an excellent run stuffer from Alabama. Lastly we have the Ohio State standout OLB Josh Perry who played opposite of Lee and could be overshadowed by all the star players they hads on defense but shouldn't be overlooked.
DL
If you're in need of DL for this draft there should be some studs including the Ohio State standout DE Joey Bosa who had 13.5 sacks, 4 FR with 1 returned for a TD. The next guy on the list is a giant at 6'7" 290 lbs. but not from Ohio State this time, DeForest Buckner of Oregon has 4 sacks and 1 FF last season but has the size, strength and length to play in any scheme. The next prospect is a DT from Mississippi State Chris Jones at 6'6" 310 lbs, Jones has put up 3 sacks and has been a run stuffing specialist in 2014. Now we go back to an athletic smallish DE Leonard Floyd from Georgia who put up decent of 55 tackles, 8 TFL, 6 sacks, 1 FR and 3 forced fumbles but looks like he may be a 4-3 only. The last of the DL is the smaller Aaron Donald type of DT Sheldon Rankins that had 8 sacks for Louisville this past season, 2 INT, 1 FF and 1 FR. Due to his smallish size he most likely would only be a 4-3 DT but possibly a 3-4 DE.
