Pablo E.’s 2016 SFL Mock Draft Part 1

It’s that time of year again, let the fun begin…

1.1
HB Derrick Henry, Alabama

We thought we had a generational talent in Gurley last season but what does that make Henry? He’s just as fast and even bigger. It should be fun watching this runaway freight train embarrass defenders with bruising highlight reel runs.

1.2
WR Michael Thomas, Ohio State

Though the Titans have 2 bonafide stud WRs in Josh Gordon and DeVante Parker, Thomas is probably still too good to pass up. He’s the best WR in the class with 99/99/99 potential, good awareness and solid hands. The offseason was supposed to arm vet QB Rivers with more weapons, and they’ve certainly done so.

1.3
CB James Bradberry, Samford

Lions felt comfortable parting with CB Claiborne for this pick, and I suspect they have their eyes on a taller talent at CB. It is known that the Lions front office prefers bigger corners, and Bradberry is just that with max-out potential at SPD/AGI/ACC.

1.4
CB T.J. Green, Clemson

Green may be raw in the mental aspect of the game, but what a freak. There are few corners as big but none are in the same league athletically(Ok, Sean Smith is but he’s 29 :) ). At 6’3” with 99/99/99 upside, the obvious potential looks hard to pass up.

1.5
HB Jordan Howard, Indiana

Lions seemed to miss the traded HB Ridley last season, and although Mendenhall is solid, Howard has a chance to be elite. Not many backs move as well as he does at 230lbs, and at only 21 could solidify the position for 10 years.

1.6
HB Ezekiel Elliot, Ohio State

Current Steelers HB Darren McFadden is 28 and in the last year of his contract. Even though he’s the 3rd HB selected in this draft, Zeke looks like a top-tier talent, ready to step in and produce from the jump.

1.7
OT Ronnie Stanley, Norte Dame

While veteran RT James Marten played decently last season, with another year into regression, it’s time to move on. Stanley can play in any scheme as he’s gifted athletically with already starter-level polish in his blocking skills.

1.8
DT Kenny Clark, UCLA

Saints hit the trenches with some quality youth for the rebuild already under way. Clark can start immediately with his elite traits for the position—top-tier speed and manhandling strength at 314 pounds.

1.9
TE Nick Vannett , Ohio State

It appears though the TEs are becoming more athletic with time, and Vannett could turn out to be a freak at the position. With potentially 90+ SPD and ACC, the 21-year old would be a real weapon for recently acquired QB AJ McCarron in Buffalo. How many Ohio State players is that now in the top ten?

1.10
OT Laremy Tunsil, Ole Miss

San Diego brass isn’t sold on their current RT pieces, but there’s no need to sell anyone on Tunsil. Not only does he check the physical boxes, his PBK/RBK skills are already borderline elite.

1.11
CB DeAndre HoustonCarson, Northern Iowa

Fuck your hyphens, HoustonCarson has elite size to match very good speed, potentially elite if it skews positively. He may need a little time to develop but with time (and a mentor) could end up in the upper echelon of corners.

1.12
FS Deiondre’ Hall, Northern Iowa

Teammates going to the same place on back-to-back picks! FS Caleb Campbell just had a good year but looks to be on his last leg, and Hall has a fast, fresh pair. His plus size for the position makes the difference, and with some seasoning he could be a very productive player in the Chiefs secondary. Doesn’t hurt when you have Deion in your name, too.

1.13
DE Joey Bosa, Ohio State

Panthers could use some youth on the defensive line with regressing vets RE Tommie Harris hitting FA and LE Dwight Freeney (now 36) still on the roster. Bosa has elite ACC for the position and probably drops this far bc last year’s class was better, especially at the top.

1.14
SS Kevin Byard, Mid Tennessee State

Saints come back to scoop another need with elite talent, this time at SS. Byard has rare speed and should help at least take away some explosive plays from the opposition to start his NFL career.

1.15
OLB Kevin Dodd, Clemson

G-Men were able to grab the premier jumbo OLB last year in Smith, and guess who’s even bigger? Dodd is an inch taller and a couple of pounds heavier, and may end up just as fast. Those YUGE outside linebackers are now looking mighty fine in New Yawk.

1.16
WR Devin Lucien, Arizona State

Tampa Bay has an aging WR corps and has been shopping WR Taylor Price. Lucien needs a good workout to justify this draft position but the potential is there to be QB Cousins’ next deep threat.
