I say the same thing every year and this time is no different, everyone who selected a player or traded for a player in round 1 improved their roster, some have improved it quite a bit. Here are some players I thought were steals where they were selected compared to where I thought they'd go.
1.10- San Diego Chargers- WR Michael Thomas- GM William Cook
It pains me to put the Chargers GM on a top list but I have to give them credit where credit is due. Michael Thomas I thought had easy top 5 potential since he was basically in a class all by himself at the reciver position. With 99 SPD/99AGI/99 ACC potential it's hard not to like the Thomas pick but they did give up Tandon Doss who was a nightmare to cover so will Thomas be another nightmare or will he struggle year 1? Time will tell but for now this will remain a steal for me.
1.13- Carolina Panthers- QB Dak Prescott- GM Phil Mellon
I wasn't lying when I said I think Dak Prescott can be the best QB in this class. He is already 23 so regardless if Phil is on the hot seat he'll have to play him some in order to benefit fully, the hardest part will be getting that AWR up but with already solid THP and THA I think he's a stud in the making (Kirk Cousins good).
1.16- Pittsburgh Steelers- QB Nate Sudfeld- GM Gary Cohen
I figured Goff would go top 10 that's why he's not on the list, I think potentially Sudfeld has the best chance to succeed since he doesn't have to start right away. He'll be able to utilize the mentorship as well on him so a win-win here for Gary, now he just needs Woodson to be good which may be a tall task to ask for
.
1.17- Indianapolis Colts- QB Carson Wentz- GM Darryl Breckheimer
To continue the QB theme here, all the QB's that I thought would go round 1, did. Wentz is no exception, he has the arm, size and THA that you like plus I don't remember what his actual skew was but again, if Breck utilizes him which I think he will then he should have a real steal here, it will be interesting to see which QB has the better career when all is said and done.
1.20-Minnesota Vikings- TE Nick Vannett- GM Neal Wintermute
I agree with just about everyone how in the world does a guy of Vannetts caliber fall this far down the draft. Vannett joins 1 of 3 as a 90 SPD TE in the SFL, a few more have 89 SPD but it's baffling that a player like this falls.
1.20-Miami Dolphins- OLB Kyler Fackrell- GM Daren Roberts
I thought fackrell was one of the better OLB in the draft, not sure what his final skew will be but I liked his size to go along with the athletic ability, he can play in any scheme.
