Pablo E.’s 2017 SFL Mock Draft, Part 1
The best time of the year is here
1.1 New York Giants
QB Mitchell Trubisky, North Carolina
The Giants grabbed their quarterback mentor in Jordan Palmer from the Dolphins recently so it would make sense to draft one of the top QBs in this class. While injury prone, Trubisky appears head and shoulders above the rest of the his QB peers due to his advanced awareness. With two mentored seasons and zero snaps, he would have it somewhere in the 80s, which would be difficult to pass on. Unless the GMen decided the injury risk is too much and trade out for a pick package, the Tar Heel should end up in the Big Apple.
1.2 New Orleans Saints
WR Mike Williams, Clemson
This roster gave a few good teams trouble last season, a testament to the talent it has accumulated over the last few seasons. The missing piece would be an elite QB, but there’s no mentor in place currently. Unless they acquire one soon, I believe they go BPA as usual, and that would likely be the 6’4” Williams. He’s got all the tools to develop into an all-pro caliber wideout in the SFL.
1.3 Oakland Raiders
DE Myles Garrett, Texas A&M
Da Raidersss returned to base 43 defense and traded for Chiefs veteran DE Tyson Jackson last season to bolster the position. Luckily for them there’s an all-pro level talent available in this draft. Garrett would be an instant upgrade with tremendous upside, cementing the left end position for quite a long time for that stinky fanbase.
1.4 New England Patriots
CB Marlon Humphrey, Alabama
Humphrey is the clear-cut top prospect at the CB position in this class. He has size, speed, and good awareness for a rookie. Also, CB Pierre Desir apparently hasn’t worked out in New England, getting injured two seasons in a row that hampered his development, and now finds himself on the trade block. Perhaps GM Redford has his eyes set on his replacement already in the ‘Bama standout.
1.5 Atlanta Falcons
TE George Kittle, Iowa
Following future HOFer Eli Manning’s retirement, it is now Blake Bortles’ team. He takes the helm with a good WR corp but the TE position could use an upgrade. Surrounding Bortles with the best talent possible to advance his development will be a priority for the Falcons so ex-Hawkeye is a good fit. He has potentially more raw speed than any TE in the SFL currently with exceptional awareness to start his career. Kittle will be a real weapon for the new signal caller in Hotlanta.
1.6 Chicago Bears
WR Kenny Golladay, Northern Illinois
WR Eric Decker is on the wrong side of 30 and Golladay has all the tools to be an elite WR in the near future. At 6’4” with plus speed, very good awareness, and 97 JMP, Kenny G should produce pro-bowl caliber numbers early with QB Ainge consistently feeding him the ball.
1.7 San Diego Chargers
S Eddie Jackson, Alabama
The Chargers got to the postseason with old man Weddle running around in the secondary. Jackson is the premier safety in this class with unmatched speed that rivals the best currently in the SFL. Add a solid starting point in awareness and plus tackling ability, Action Jackson should make plays early in his career for San Diego.
1.8 Baltimore Ravens
WR JuJu SmithSchuster, USC
The Ravens may decide to rip the bandaid off soon in regards to 31-year old WR Dwayne Jarrett’s crazy contract next season. SmithSchuster has good height, is a real blazer with 99 SPD/AGI/ACC potential, and has the added bonus of being more than capable of serving as a kick returner. QB Jimmy Garrapolo should be excited at the prospect of having some good JuJu on his side.
1.9 San Diego Chargers
MLB Trey Hendrickson, Florida A&M
I know MLBs are plentiful in the league, but how many are this big with 99 ACC potential? Hendrickson is a rare find with elite height, weight, agility and acceleration. Blitzing this 270lber should prove a different kind of weapon we haven’t seen before. I’d imagine the announced return to the 34 by GM Cook and Angerer being shopped is with someone specific like him in mind.
1.10 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
DE Jonathan Allen, Alabama
Bucs have a glaring hole at left defensive end after dealing LE Kendrick Ellis. Allen has a rare combination of weight(293LBs), ACC(87) and AWR (70) in a prospect. With the right skew, things could improve to where he’d be on a very short list of ends in the entire league with his mix of attributes.
1.11 Green Bay Packers
TE Evan Engram, Ole Miss
The tight ends seem to only get faster with each passing year. Though they drafted Austin Hooper in the 2nd round last season, Engram has the potential to be the fastest TE in the SFL out of the gate. He would be a mismatch nightmare for all opposing linebackers, many corners and most safeties in the league. Engram is a bit undersized but could be a legitimate threat to take it to the house as a tight end every time he touches the ball.
1.12 Miami Dolphins
OLB TJ Watt, Wisconsin
Watt has rare height at 6’4”, elite strength(85) and even special acceleration(92). Miami dealt talented veteran ROLB Von Miller to there’s a big void to fill. The former Badger needs a little seasoning but is still only 21 and his stock will have a bit more value due to extra time before regression.
1.13 Indianapolis Colts
WR Chris Godwin, Penn State
Indy’s WR room has a few aged vets that are on their way out so it’s time to look towards the future. Godwin is worth a top half of the 1st round selection as he has 99/99/99 potential and can contribute as a rookie.
1.14 Jacksonville Jaguars
CB Justin Hardee, Illinois
CB Dowling has been actively shopped and will probably be moved shortly. Hardee is an elite prospect at 6’1” with 99/99/99 potential at 22 years old. He can work things out as the Jags continue their rebuilding process.
1.15 San Diego Chargers
QB Patrick Mahomes, Texas Tech
Big Ben is actively being shopped but he’s still on the roster so why not? The league remembers how the Raiders were able to acquire 2 1st round picks for grooming AJ McCarron so San Diego makes Rothlesberger earn his keep with the role of mentor for the young Texas Tech signal caller.
1.16 Tennessee Titans
WR Josh Malone, Tennessee
The Titans moved on from star WR Josh Gordon after helping bring the team a Super Bowl victory. Sophomore Devante Parker is a lock at WR1 now but there’s a spot open for the long term WR2 position. Malone stands 6’3” with excellent speed at 94 SPD/99ACC but what stands out is his good awareness (62) and hands(86) for being a baby yet at just 21 years old. A good skew in speed makes him good choice here in round 1.
