Pablo E.’s 2017 SFL Mock Draft, Part 2

with every pick in 1st round of the 2017 SFL Mockery Draft, Pablo selects…

1.17
OT Cam Robinson, Alabama

RT Tony Ugoh was impressive last season but he’s regressed further while making nearly 12m per. He looks like he’s got one more season left in him so Robinson doesn’t have be tossed into action early but he’s got very good athletic ability and high awareness for a 21 year old. In time he could produce at an all-pro level.

1.18 Oakland Raiders
CB Tre’Davious White, LSU

Oakland doesn’t have many glaring holes and decides to go BPA here. White is 22 who may have 99/99/99 potential. He’s got good awareness to start and with the division having many speedy receivers it’s probably prudent to have as many good corners as possible. Also, rumors suggest GM Barber really likes White.

1.19 New York Jets
QB DeShaun Watson, Clemson

QB Mark Sanchez is now eligible to mentor, just hitting 30. Jets are fortunate Watson falls into their laps. He is a great talent that with a little time could hit elite tier. Only 22 with a strong arm and decent accuracy, the Clemson star is a good bet to do better than his draft position.

1.20 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
CB Marshon Lattimore, Ohio State

Lattimore is 21 with good size and physical tools along with good AWR for his age(62) and CTH(70). Though the Bucs have plenty of young talent already at the cornerback position, PJ Williams is currently on the block. While he’s still young, Lattimore likely has a significantly higher ceiling.

1.21 Tennessee Titans
DT Davon Godchaux, LSU

Godchaux might tempt GM Shapiro, who loves speed. The team acquired DE Preston Smith and flirted with placing him on the interior but ultimately decided against the idea, and promptly traded him away. Godchaux is only 21 and has time to develop. They could use some competition on the interior and he has rare athleticism for a defensive tackle.

1.22 Jacksonville Jaguars
WR John Ross, Washington

Jags dealt star WR Dez Bryant to the Titans in a deal that included this pick. Ross is a speed demon that suits QB Winston’s arm strength. They may decide to go for a wideout with the 14th pick instead if they desire one that’s a few inches taller without sacrificing too much in speed.

1.23 Seattle Seahawks
QB Chad Kelly, Ole Miss

The Seahawks moved on from recently restructured stud running back Eddie Lacy for this selection. I’m guessing they’re after a QB to mentor with Alex Smith hitting 33 years old. Kelly is the choice here and it’s highly dependent on a skew that doesn’t make him a scrambler and/or lower his awareness. If he stands pat, the 22 year old would have 80ish AWR after two seasons of mentorship plus rookie progression, which is pretty damn good. He may be lacking in arm strength and some needs a lot of work on his accuracy, but he’s capable of being great where it matters most.

1.24 Cleveland Browns
HB James Connor, Pittsburg

Connor is a huge back at 6’2” 250lbs, similar to Anthony Dixon who was the Browns starter, but looks like he may hit the FA market at 29. Connor appears to be a better version and even more of a bruiser, with possibly superior top speed too.

1.25 Miami Dolphins
OT Roderick Johnson, Florida State

After winning the Super Bowl recently the Dolphins went into full rebuild mode, showing a lot of patience grabbing just the right pieces before making another run. Johnson’s pick would be another example, as the young OT already has near 80 AWR to go alone with his plus athleticism. Currently RT Castonzo is 29 so there is a spot for cerebral prospect to eventually take over.

1.26 Denver Broncos
OLB Matt Milano, Boston College

The Broncos would love for a good defensive end prospect to make it here but there aren’t any at the level that would replace his current starter, LE Malik Jackson. Milano’s main knock is him being undersized and perhaps his TAK rating, but he has the kind of acceleration to produce behind the line of scrimmage, giving a bit of what GM Collins was probably looking for.

1.27 Tennessee Titans
CB Shaquille Griffin, UCF

With a positive skew in SPD alone, little Shaq could end up an enticing enough of a prospect to groom in a talented CB group. He won’t break the starting gig anytime soon but can be of service out of dime packages early in his career. It says more about how deep the position is for Tennessee rather than Griffin’s capabilities.

1.28 Pittsburg Steelers
CB Teez Tabor, Florida

Pittsburg could use some youth at the CB position as there are a couple of 30-somethings on the roster or impending free agents. 21-year old Tabor has upside and with a slightly positive skew in speed and awareness, he could be really good.

1.29 Pittsburg Steelers
DT Jaleel Johnson, Iowa

Defensive tackles Dan Williams and Ziggy Hood are 29 and 30 years old so the position could use some youth, especially one that can rush the passer. Johnson is just that with his exceptional acceleration.

1.30 Pittsburg Steelers
WR Josh Reynolds, Texas A&M

WR Carlton Mitchell hits regression next season and the team overall could use a bit more depth at wideout(didn’t they have like 4 plus starters at one point?). If Reynolds gets the slightest positive skew he’s got the base to develop into a productive wideout and do well out of the slot in his rookie season despite his low awareness.

1.31 Seattle Seahawks
MLB Kendall Beckwith, LSU

Current MLB Scott McKillop is 31 years old, slow, and making 9+mil per in the last year of his deal. I fully expect him to become a cap casualty unless there are lans in place for him to mentor. Beckwith may have the speed to be among the very few at the top if the not the fastest middle linebacker when fulled developed, with a solid starting point in awareness.

1.32 Dallas Cowboys
S Nathan Gerry, Nebraska

The Cowboys will have 8 safeties on the roster soon as they consider the future for the position alongside former second round pick FS Diggs. Gerry has desirable height and good speed that can become upper tier with a positive skew and/or some AP work. He has the potential build to be worthy of mentoring.
