I see the Titans have made a bajillion trades as Ive worked on this so someone stop Apolo please while i attempt to update before tomorrow’s draft
17. Washington Redskins
CB Denzel Ward, Ohio State
While only 5’10”, Ward’s advanced awareness would get him to 99 in just a couple of seasons if mentored. The Redskins front office I believe values that more than the average, and with veteran CB Vontae Davis mentor eligible at 30 years old, Ward can take over after occupying the slot in his rookie campaign.
18. Pittsburgh Steelers
WR J’Mon Moore, Missouri
The Steelers were busy this offseason as usual, and looks to be aiming for serious contention this season. They acquired veteran WR Dez Bryant via trade and signed Demaryius Thomas, who is built similarly to Moore at 6’3”, except he’s lost a step or two. Moore has 99 SPD potential at that height, which makes him hard to pass on.
19. New England Patriots
CB JC Jackson, Maryland
Jackson is a bit freaky as he potentially comes into the league the best tackling cornerback but also has upper tier speed. He may be able to force more turnovers than the norm and would provide excellent run support at the very least. With a mentor he is a very intriguing prospect to keep your eye on in the future.
20. Tennessee Titans
OLB Dorian O’Daniel, LSU
If there’s one thing Titans GM Shapiro enjoys doing more than tricking me, it’s putting together a speedy defense. O’Daniel is severely undersized but that wheels are too enticing. LOLB Melvin Ingram will lose a step next season as he hits regression and I believe they’ll move on from him for that very reason.
21. Cincinnati Bengals
SS Terrell Edmunds, Virginia Tech
The Bengals don’t currently have a strong safety on the roster and Edmunds has good size couple with elite long speed. He needs a little seasoning but can develop into a better than fine safety for Cincy.
22. Kansas City Chiefs
DE Marcus Davenport, UTEP
Davenport is built similarly to former KC 1st round pick, Joey Bosa. He also possesses a quick first step as well, but is significantly stronger. He might be a little slow and not the best tackler, but how hard would it be to bring down the QB at 6’4”, 264lbs? And at just 21, he’s got time to work on the details.
23. Baltimore Ravens
MLB Roquan Smith, Georgia
Smith is a bit undersized but has very good speed, elite strength, tackles well, and has a good starting point for awareness at a young 21. He looks a lot like current MLB Akeem Dent, who hit 30 this season so a replacement makes plenty of sense.
24. Minnesota Vikings
WR Michael Gallup, Colorado State
Minny could use a wideout and Gallup would be an instant upgrade at the slot position. 6’1” with 99 speed is a good value here late in the 1st round. The Colorado State standout would make use of QB Tyler Wilson’s big arm with that long speed.
25. St Louis Rams
CB Jaire Alexander, Louisville
I could tell Rams GM Santos is dying to trade WR Mike Evans to the Chiefs, but that’s a story for another day. They address their slim cornerback room with Alexander who is only 21 and can potentially hit 99/99 SPD/ACC with a good positive skew and/or some love.
26. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
QB Josh Rosen, UCLA
Kirk Cousins can mentor now and the other apparent positions of need(SS, OG) don’t have a good value available here, so Rosen is the pick. He’s only 21 with great arm strength and can sit for a couple of seasons to get his AWR/THA up. This time he might really make some teams pay for passing on him(I think?).
27. New Orleans Saints
FS Minkah Fitzpatrick, Alabama
The ‘Bama product is a hard hitter out of the gate, has decent awareness and is just 21. If he has a good private workout, he may go even higher than this.
28. New York Jets
DE Josh Sweat, Florida State
GM Mullendore is on the hot seat and is likely looking for an impact player. Sweat should provide an improved pass rush out of the right end position even if it’s typically not the spot you’d get your QB sacks from.
29. Cincinnati Bengals
OG Quenton Nelson, Notre Dame
LG Chilo Rachal has had an excellent career but he’s hitting 32 years of age and making more than 5 million a season. The Bengals are in the midst of a rebuild with Goff at the helm so Nelson could take over a grow with him. He’s very similar to Rachal in many respects.
30. Pittsburgh Steelers
BJ Hill, NC State
DT Dan Williams is 30, making over 5 million, and pretty damn slow. Hill is about the same size, stronger, and much faster. He can make an impact as an interior pass rusher early in his career, and likely more later on.
31. Dallas Cowboys
OLB Fred Warner, BYU
LOLB Mychal Kendricks is being shopped, and is 29, so a replacement is likely to come in this draft. Warner is a solid tackler and has excellent hands for a linebacker. This will largely depend on how well his private workout goes as I think he’d need to improve his already good speed if he’s to be chosen in round 1.
32. Tennessee Titans
DT Vita Vea, Washington
I know he’s not fast but GM Shapiro may decide to use him as depth or situationally. Vea is big boy at 340lbs, and if his ACC skews up, because of that high starting AWR, he’d be a pretty tempting choice for that 34 base D.
