1. New Orleans Saints
WR DJ Chark Jr, LSU (previous pick: no change)
Deja vu all over again. The Saints yet again own the top selection, and Chark is the most complete receiver in the draft—speed, size, awareness and catching ability. He should be an impact player early in his SFL career and give New Orleans a pretty deep WR unit and start alongside last year’s draft gem, WR Mack Collins. 2017’s #1 overall pick Mitchell Trubisky is being surrounded by legitimate weapons to ensure his development but GM Jones needs the newly acquired veteran QB Drew Stanton to save him. Playoffs or the boot!
2. Green Bay Packers
QB Sam Darnold, USC (previous pick: no change)
Anyone who can turn down a sweet deal involving future SFL Hall of famer QB Davis Webb definitely has another QB on their mind. While obviously a mistake to turn down the current KC QB being groomed, some have to learn the hard way.
3. Buffalo Bills
Bradley Chubb, NC State ( previous pick: CB Carlton Davis, Auburn
The Bills, at the behest of league officials, modified their deal that allowed them to keep veteran Nolan Carroll and acquire young CB Justin Burris. Whether it was still a head-scratcher depends on who you ask. Chubb fits a need and if his private work out goes well it’s solid choice.
4. Chicago Bears
WR Courtland Sutton, SMU (previous pick: no change)
WR Eric Decker is now 31 so the Bears should look to the future and add another threat alongside former first rounder Donte Moncrief. Sutton has great size at 6’4”, plus hands and solid awareness. With the right positive skew, he could be on a short list of wideouts that match his size/athleticism combo. Mahomes should appreciate his services.
5. Cleveland Browns
HB Nick Chubb, Georgia (previous pick: no change)
The Browns may have a Chubb for Chubb, and he’s sexy enough that we don’t blame them. Only have 2 running backs currently on their roster. Anthony Dixon has hit regression, and Kenyan Drake doesn’t appear to be the long term solution. Chubb is a big bruising back with elite break tackling ability out of the gate. Art imitating life or something like that.
6. Green Bay Packers
CB Carlton Davis, Auburn ( previous pick CB Charvarious Ward, Mid Tennessee State)
The Pack are shopping the pick currently but I believe if Davis is there they’ll stay put. His upside could make them forget dealing talented young corner, Eric Rowe.
7. Kansas City Chiefs
SS J.T. Gray, Mississippi State (previous pick: no change)
KC thought they may have had a deal with a club that was too scared to pull the trigger *makes chicken noises* but it fell through. Gray is a well rounded prospect skills wise but his athleticism is in the elite tier. The Chiefs have veteran Sabby Piscitelli currently occupying the starting strong safety role and would make an excellent mentor to Gray. Adding the Miss State product would give KC one of the fastest safety duos next to Deiondre’ Hall.
8. Denver Broncos
SS Jessie Bates, Wake Forrest (previous pick: HB Phillip Lindsay, Colorado)
Broncos have publicly claimed their pick will likely come on the defensive side of the ball but I’m not sure if the talent available at a position of needs warrants it. I could see Bates being tempting if they used Wright as a mentor, though.
9. Seattle Seahawks
SS Tremaine Edmunds, Virginia Tech (previous pick: DE Bradley Chubb, NC State)
After dealing star running back Eddie Lacey last season and losing their starting signal caller Alex Smith this offseason, the Hawks look to be in full rebuild mode. Chubb has elite strength and burst off the edge and will replace 30-year old DE Ayers who is in the final season of his contract.
10. New England Patriots
CB Charvarious Ward, Mid Tennessee State (previous pick: OLB Tremaine Edmunds, Virginia Tech)
Ward slips some here but CB Jimmy Smith can mentor him and get him on his way to becomes a very productive corner for years to come.
11. Indianapolis Colts
TE Mark Andrews, Oklahoma (previous pick: no change)
The Sudfeld era begins in Indy, and 21 year old tight end would be a nice complimentary addition for the young quarterback. They can grow together until the team is ready to take their next shot at the mighty Titans.
12. New York Jets
WR Tre’Quan Smith, UCF ( previous pick: QB Josh Allen, Wyoming)
Jets move up from 18, but for who? Certainly an impact player as the hot seat heats up! Smith is just that and gives the young signal caller Wentz another target.
13. San Francisco 49ers
OT Brian O’Neil, Pittsburgh (previous pick: no change)
*very loud chicken noises*The 9ers have finally found a long term solution at right tackle. O’Neil is a safe bet with his high awareness and advanced pass blocking skills for Orton’s blind side. The 6’7” Pitt product may struggle a bit early on but should be an elite tackle when it’s all said and done.
14. Atlanta Falcons
TE Dallas Goedert, South Dakota State (previous pick: no change)
The Falcons already have 4 tight ends on their roster but none as talented as the speedy 6’5” Goedert so someone will make way for him in that locker room. QB Blake Bortles had an excellent season in his first year at the helm and adding this kind of talent will help in continuing that level of performance.
15. Pittsburg Steelers
WR J’Mon Moore, Missiouri (previous pick: SS Jesse Bates, Wake Forest)
The Steelers were busy this offseason as usual, and looks to be aiming for serious contention this season. They acquired veteran WR Dez Bryant via trade and signed Demaryius Thomas, who is built similarly to Moore at 6’3”, except he’s lost a step or two. Moore has 99 SPD potential at that height, which makes him hard to pass on.
16. San Diego Chargers
CB Denzel Ward, Ohio State(previous pick: WR Tre’Quan Smith, USF)
Commish Cook tells us his reason for taking a breather, but I think it was ghe guilt of making Ward as unappealing as possible for the rest of us so he can draft him. Guilt takes a toll on anyone. Ward is hiding some speed so someone show us all his private workout por favor.
17. Washington Redskins
SS Terrell Edmunds, Virginia Tech ( previous pick: CB Denzel Ward, Ohio State)
Edmunds is among the elite in terms of speed for his position which would suit him well in the division with all the fast wideouts.
18. Pittsburgh Steelers
FS Minkah Fitzpatrick, Alabama (previous pick: WR J’Mon Moore, Missouri)
Steelers don’t have a free safety currently on the roster. Minkah can make an immediate impact, especially if he had a good private workout for the team.
19. New England Patriots
JC Jackson, Maryland (previous pick: no change)
Jackson is a bit freaky as he potentially comes into the league the best tackling cornerback but also has upper tier speed. He may be able to force more turnovers than the norm and would provide excellent run support at the very least. With a mentor he is a very intriguing prospect to keep your eye on in the future.
20. Tennessee Titans
OLB Dorian O’Daniel, LSU (previous pick: no change)
If there’s one thing Titans GM Shapiro enjoys doing more than tricking me, it’s putting together a speedy defense. O’Daniel is severely undersized but that wheels are too enticing. LOLB Melvin Ingram will lose a step next season as he hits regression and I believe they’ll move on from him for that very reason.
21. Cincinnati Bengals
SS Marcus Allen, Penn State ( previous pick: SS Terrell Edmunds, Virginia Tech)
Cincy likes their safeties taller than most other teams, and standing at 6’2”, Allen fits the mold. With a good private workout he can have upper tier speed as well.
22. Kansas City Chiefs
DE Marcus Davenport, UTEP (previous pick: no change)
Davenport is built similarly to former KC 1st round pick, Joey Bosa. He also possesses a quick first step as well, but is significantly stronger. He might be a little slow and not the best tackler, but how hard would it be to bring down the QB at 6’4”, 264lbs? And at just 21, he’s got time to work on the details.
23. Baltimore Ravens
MLB Roquan Smith, Georgia (previous pick: no change)
Smith is a bit undersized but has very good speed, elite strength, tackles well, and has a good starting point for awareness at a young 21. He looks a lot like current MLB Akeem Dent, who hit 30 this season so a replacement makes plenty of sense.
24. Minnesota Vikings
WR Michael Gallup, Colorado State (previous pick: no change)
Minny could use a wideout and Gallup would be an instant upgrade at the slot position. 6’1” with 99 speed is a good value here late in the 1st round. The Colorado State standout would make use of QB Tyler Wilson’s big arm with that long speed.
25. St Louis Rams
CB Jaire Alexander, Louisville (previous pick: no change)
I could tell Rams GM Santos is dying to trade WR Mike Evans to the Chiefs, but that’s a story for another day. They address their slim cornerback room with Alexander who is only 21 and can potentially hit 99/99 SPD/ACC with a good positive skew and/or some love.
26. Indianapolis Colts
OG Quenton Nelson, Notre Dame (previous pick: QB Josh Rosen, UCLA)
I think I like mocking players on their real teams to their SFL ones. Sue me. Nelson would slide right into the LG spot and start.
27. New Orleans Saints
HB Phillip Lindsay, Colorado(previous pick: FS Minkah Fitzpatrick, Alabama)
Kinda glad Lindsay isn’t a Bronco, and he’d make a fine 1-2 with current starter Mikel LeShoure, who I remember clearly as a huge bust for my real-life Lions. Boo.
28. Oakland Raiders
DT Vita Vea, Washington(previous pick: DE Josh Sweat, Florida State)
Raiders moved into this spot thinking they’d steal an impact player, but they’re in the same division as the Chiefs so what’s the point in trying right? Vera’s 340lb frame and high awareness would replace bum John Jenkins, saving them about 5mil next season, and even more if you count team food costs.
29. Cincinnati Bengals
WR Christian Kirk, Texas A&M (previous pick: OG Quenton Nelson, Notre Dame)
I can see this happen with a good private workout where his speed skews up. Kirk has good CTH(80) to start and can fill in at the slot in his rookie season and play back up as a KR too.
30. Denver Broncos
RB Ronald Jones II, USC (previous pick: BJ Hill, NC State)
Broncos traded back and decided not to select dream pick in Phillip Lindsay, so they have to settle for a lesser back. Karma in the form of the KC Chiefs will make them regret that move!
31. Dallas Cowboys
OLB Fred Warner, BYU (previous pick: no change)
LOLB Mychal Kendricks is being shopped, and is 29, so a replacement is likely to come in this draft. Warner is a solid tackler and has excellent hands for a linebacker. This will largely depend on how well his private workout goes as I think he’d need to improve his already good speed if he’s to be chosen in round 1.
32. Tennessee Titans
QB Josh Allen, Wyoming ( previous pick: DT Vita Vea, Washington)
GM Shapiro’s gets lucky and lands Allen much later than the first mock had him pegged, and will inevitably get traded for 3 1sts once Tom comes out of hiding the shellacking KC kept serving him before he raised his LGTBQ+ flag.
