Here are just some of my favorites picks as well and ones I didn’t particularly care for in the draft. I’m sure there are some nice hidden gems in the later rounds(though not many) but I didn’t go super deep into it as not everyone posted their signings page.
Yays!
1.7 Chiefs WR Jaleel Scott New Mexico State
I’m very biased, I know, and I don’t give a crap, as you can see in choosing the 24-year old Scott here. I think Scott is going to make a difference early, and he better with how old he is. I do value awareness, but if there’s any position I think you can still be a star without it, it’s WR. Kaelin Clay of the Raiders and Kris Durham of the Cardinals come to mind. I’m still suffering from PTSD those championship Dolphins teams gave me with his super-sized WRs. I’m looking to pass along that trauma to the rest of the AFC West. I’d also like to apologize to Kevin for stealing his Alex Smith in FA then snatching Scott from him as well.
1.11 Steelers CB Carlton Davis, Auburn
I nearly pulled the trigger on Davis at 7, but ultimately decided against it because I’m stuck with the idea of making Davis Webb a good QB as a 5th round pick, and I wouldn’t be able to mentor the physically talented corner in doing so. I was surprised he dropped so far as he was the clear-cut #1 corner on my board.
1.16 Cowboys JC Jackson, Maryland
I was going to trade back until Gary got cold chicken feet, and Jackson was on a very short list of players I figured would still be available. I prefer 99 speed(who doesn’t) but he’ll get close enough with high ACC/TAK that will be excellent against the run and potentially cause more than his fair share of fumbles. 88 TAK as a rookie corner, sheeeit.
1.21 Bengals CB Jaire Alexander, Louisville
Alexander was another on my radar with the very next pick and I thought he’d still be there. He worked out well while my ultimate pick OLB Edmunds had a private workout that skewed down considerably which he almost scared me away. Alexander will be a really good corner even if he’s a bit undersized for some.
1.23 Ravens HB Phillip Lindsay, Colorado
I think I liked him more than most as I mocked him pretty high initially. He’s like a wannabe Charles Sims. His speed/btk combo will make him an immediate impact player in my opinion, even if I kinda want him to twist his ankle in the first game a bit after Norb hated on my Scott selection.
1.24 Vikings WR J’Mon Moore, Missouri
His OVR is low so he’ll probably get two training camps in and he can max out at 99SPD/98ACC with his 6’3” frame. Only a handful of WRs can match that combination currently, and they’re all very successful/among the league’s best.
1.25 Rams OLB Shaquille Leonard, SC State
Leonard can end up with 91SPD/91ACC with just 50k AP after a season. I’d be pretty happy with this near the bottom of the 1st round. And he’s only 22 years old.
2.9 Seahawks DT BJ Hill, NC State
Hill moves really well for a DT and has very good size as well(6’4”, 321lbs). 70+SPD, capable of 99 STR if not already, and 70+ for both AGI and ACC. His TAK is lacking right now but he doesn’t need it that much to get to the QB.
2.24 Vikings DE Chad Thomas, Miami
This one irked me a little as he was so close to me at 2.32 and would have started at DE for me, I think. SPD ended up 86 I believe, and the ACC close to 80 and will get there with a little AP. At 6’5”, 281lbs, I think he can play in any base D even if his STR is lacking.
Nays
1.9 Seahawks QB Josh Rosen, UCLA
Allen was still on the board if he aimed for a QB, and I wonder if he sees something I’m missing (Is Allen a scrambler to start?). I was expecting the usual freak Rock tends to select and this threw me off quite a bit. Rosen will most likely take every snap this season so things will be pretty bad before it gets better, making the pick look pretty rough for quite some time.
1.13 Packers QB, Josh Allen, Wyoming
Scrambler at 13. I’m sure that hurts a bit to pay 100k or whatever it is. Sorry, Gary. Should’ve traded me the pick! Knowing what I know now about the private workouts, JC Jackson would’ve probably been a Chief here(assuming Scott was gone to the Jets at 12.)
1.30 Broncos QB Lamar Jackson, Louisville
Unless the talent is absolutely amazing, again, I’m not signing up for a scrambling QB, especially this early. I don’t think Lamar is that kind of talent. Is this some form of compensation for Harnish’s lead feet?
1.31 Rams OG Wyatt Teller, Virginia Tech
While I do think his high AWR at 78 will have him work out pretty well when he fully develops, his physical attributes are sorely lacking. And he’s a guard. I do think it’s possible he’ll play respectably even in year one though. Whatever works.
2.32 Chiefs HB Saquon Barkley, Penn State
I was left scrambling as players I was pretty confident would be there, weren’t. His ACC is terrible and his BTK I was HOPING would skew up but it did not (86-ok I guess). I’m going to see if by some slim chance he does well in match up specific spots at FB, which I’m unconfidently optimistic about, or Romeo can have him cheap if he doesn’t want to watch him rot on my bench until I feel like absorbing a cap hit. At 2.32, this is still hurting. Why would anyone make him this bad!? At least give him 85 CTH or something!
