As the SFL Draft approaches tomorrow night, here's one more look at how it could go from the GM in Minnesota. A couple of disclosures here, I have no inside knowledge about any of these picks. I haven't spoken to GM's asking them who they like or are planning on taking. The only info I have is from public discussion on Discord. Second, I haven't done private workouts on any players. All the commentary, evaluation, and selections are done based on the pre workout numbers.
Round 1, Pick 1- Carolina Panthers- QB-Gardner Minshew- 21 years old, 6’1”, 225 lbs.
72 AWR | 97 THP | 84 THA
Brad has made it clear that Minshew is the 1st overall pick. He’s clearly the best QB in this draft and his AWR and THA are an elite level combination. Hopefully it’s not so high that he can’t get a training camp boost, but either way he is an elite level QB.
Round 1, Pick 2- Tampa Bay Buccaneers- WR-D.K. Metcalf- 22 years old, 6’4”, 235 lbs.
99 SPD | 54 STR | 50 AWR | 99 AGI | 98 ACC | 78 CTH | 89 JMP
Bryan has eluded to the fact that the pick is Metcalf here, but you can never quite trust that Bryan is being serious. However, it makes sense for Metcalf to go here. The Bucs have relied on older veteran talent at the position and have found good success with that. If they want to get younger with elite level talent, Metcalf is the way to go.
Round 1, Pick 3- Baltimore Ravens- CB-Rock Ya-SIn- 23 years old, 6’2”, 190 lbs.
98 SPD | 56 STR | 58 AWR | 99 AGI | 97 ACC | 49 CTH | 90 JMP | 67 TAK
The projection for the Ravens at #3 is CB-Rock Ya-Sin. I think he’s an elite level CB pre skew, but I know there are other GM’s that don’t view that the same way. Early morning rumblings out of Baltimore have Norbert open to moving down so maybe the skew isn’t good.
Round 1, Pick 4- Denver Broncos- WR-A.J. Brown- 22 years old, 6’1”, 225 lbs.
98 SPD | 81 STR | 51 AWR | 89 AGI | 97 ACC | 86 CTH | 74 JMP
The Broncos have lost two elite level WR’s in the same offseason. Now, they have accumulated some good picks in the draft, but they desperately need an elite receiver. Fortunately for them, Brown is on the board. I really like his talent. He’s not far away from Metcalf in my opinion. This would fill a vital need for the Broncos.
Round 1, Pick 5- Indianapolis Colts- LE-Nick Bosa- 22 years old, 6’3”, 265 lbs.
82 SPD | 77 STR | 47 AWR | 78 AGI | 80 ACC | 70 TAK
This is a controversial pick to the Colts, but I think Bosa has a good skew here. Long-term I think he’s an elite DE and I know the Colts would like to find one. They haven’t had one since Derrick Harvey was in his prime.
Round 1, Pick 6- Oakland Raiders- DT-Dexter Lawrence- 21 years old, 6’4”, 350 lbs.
71 SPD | 93 STR | 51 AWR | 62 AGI | 71 ACC | 68 TAK
Phil tends to pick based on emotion. So when he sees a DT at 6’4”, 350 lbs. he might not even pay attention to his attributes. But if he does, he’ll see he possesses great attributes AND size. This makes him a no-brainer here for the Raiders.
Round 1, Pick 7- Dallas Cowboys- DT-Quinnen Williams- 23 years old, 6’3”, 289 lbs.
83 SPD | 97 STR | 55 AWR | 73 AGI | 69 ACC | 68 TAK
AF wants to trade out and when he wants to trade out he usually does. Whether it’s Dallas or someone else, Williams is going to get picked early. I hate the 69 acceleration, but his speed and strength combo is elite for a DT or for that matter a DE. And if he were to skew up in acceleration, he becomes even better. If it is Dallas who stay here, AF knows how to identify elite players and I think Wiliams could be that.
Round 1, Pick 8- New Orleans Saints- TE-T.J. Hockenson- 23 years old, 6’5”, 248 lbs.
89 SPD | 72 STR | 61 AWR | 82 AGI | 81 ACC | 80 CTH | 81 JMP | 51 PBK | 58 RBK
Another in a recent line of talented, young TE’s, T.J. Hockenson is projected to go to the Saints at #8 overall. The Saints are now in a pretty tough division and will need all the help they can get to score points. Hockenson should give them that.
Round 1, Pick 9- Kansas City Chiefs- SS-Marquise Blair- 23 years old, 6’2”, 195 lbs.
96 SPD | 62 STR | 60 AWR | 91 AGI | 96 ACc | 60 CTH | 78 JMP | 73 TAK
This is a talented safety class. It’s probably one of the strongest positions in this draft. The Chiefs can get the best of the bunch with Blair at #9. A 6’2” athlete like him doesn’t come around every draft.
Round 1, Pick 10- Cincinnati Bengals- TE-Noah Fant- 22 years old, 6’5”, 241 lbs.
85 SPD | 76 STR | 54 AWR | 87 AGI | 83 ACC | 71 CTH | 67 JMP | 49 PBK | 49 RBK
The Bengals are a talented team that doesn’t have many holes. Jared Goff ,their young QB, could use an upgrade at TE. With Hockenson off the board, the Bengals could grab a very talented Noah Fant with pick #10.
Round 1, Pick 11- Miami Dolphins- CB-Joejuan Williams- 21 years old, 6’3”, 212 lbs.
91 SPD | 73 STR | 69 AWR | 80 AGI | 91 ACc | 59 CTH | 75 JMP | 59 TAK
The Dolphins have shown a preference for tall CB’s. And why not, players like David Amerson have been very good for them. Williams fits that mold and he enters the league with 69 AWR.
Round 1, Pick 12- Denver Broncos- RE-Brian Burns- 23 years old, 6’3”, 235 lbs.
82 SPD | 82 STR | 41 AWR | 83 AGI | 86 ACC | 70 TAK
Burns is so small for a DE. Will this effect him in any way? I think GM’s will feel comfortable enough with him to select him based on Demarcus Lawrence who, by the way, fetched a late 1st, future 1st and 2nd in a trade from Pittsburgh to San Diego. If other GM’s value him the same way, Burns is a no brainer here.
Round 1, Pick 13- Oakland Raiders- LT-Andre Dillard- 21 years old, 6’5”, 310 lbs.
64 SPD | 89 STR | 68 AWR | 79 AGI | 86 ACC | 81 PBK | 76 RBK
If you think strength is the top attribute in an offensive lineman, Dillard is not your guy and you will wonder why he’s up this high. But if you like athleticism and awareness, Dillard is your #1 OL. Hard to know what Phil will do here, but I like him as the top OL in the draft.
Round 1, Pick 14- Cleveland Browns- HB-Tony Pollard- 22 years old, 6’0”, 209 lbs.
94 SPD | 86 STR | 69 AWR | 86 AGI | 91 ACC | 78 CAR | 81 BTK
Pollard has some off-the-charts qualities. I personally love strength in a RB and he has it! He also has a very good speed and acceleration combo. I think he goes pretty high in this draft maybe even higher than where I have him.
Round 1, Pick 15- Oakland Raiders- LE-Maxx Crosby- 21 years old, 6’5”, 247 lbs.
76 SPD | 87 STR | 50 AWR | 87 AGI | 87 ACC | 62 TAK
Crosby didn’t initially stand out to me as an elite player, but depending on how he skews in speed he could be. The 87 strength, agility, and acceleration is very rare.
Round 1, Pick 16- New England Patriots- WR-Terry McLaurin- 22 years old, 6’0”, 210 lbs.
99 SPD | 26 STR | 59 AWR | 99 AGI | 97 ACC | 80 CTH | 85 JMP
The Patriots snag an elite speed receiver in the middle of round one with McLaurin. He lacks strength but many other WR’s have shown it’s not a requirement for success.
Round 1, Pick 17- San Diego Chargers- LG-Michael Deiter- 22 years old, 6’4”, 328 lbs.
76 SPD | 94 STR | 52 AWR | 78 AGI | 80 ACC | 77 PBK | 74 RBK
Deiter is an elite prospect who lack the refined blocking skills to start immediately. But you can’t beat his upside in this draft class.
Round 1, Pick 18- New York Giants- LT-Greg Little- 23 years old, 6’6”, 325 lbs.
57 SPD | 96 STR | 54 AWR | 81 AGI | 76 ACC | 82 PBK | 88 RBK
The Giants didn’t have a glaring need but perhaps OT is a place they could upgrade. Little offers that would some good blocking skills to go with his good size and strength.
Round 1, Pick 19- Chicago Bears- WR-Jalen Hurd- 21 years old, 6’5”, 230 lbs.
93 SPD | 56 STR | 49 AWR | 93 AGI | 90 ACC | 84 CTH | 85 JMP
The Bears build a great team that has seen some of their stars enter the twilight of their career or not been resigned. Vincent Jackson was one of those stars and I think they grab their next Jackson in Jalen Hurd.
Round 1, Pick 20- Oakland Raiders- FS-Will Harris- 21 years old, 6’2”, 210 lbs.
90 SPD | 52 STR | 56 AWR | 90 AGI | 95 ACc | 56 CTH | 86 JMP | 88 TAK
The Raiders add an excellent all around FS at 20 with Will Harris. His tackle really stands out for a FS. In fact, pre skew he’s tied with Kenny Vaccaro for the 2nd highest tackle among all FS’s in the league.
Round 1, Pick 21- Atlanta Falcons- RE-Montez Sweat- 21 years old, 6’6”, 241 lbs.
76 SPD | 96 STR | 69 AWR | 77 AGI | 73 ACC | 68 TAK
Sweat is an elite strength DE with really good height. I think that’s a combination Garth likes.
Round 1, Pick 22- Baltimore Ravens- LE-Oshana Ximines- 22 years old, 6’3”, 252 lbs.
77 SPD | 89 STR | 52 AWR | 80 AGI | 84 ACC | 61 TAK
I think this is a good pick positionally, but what I’m not sure of is whether Norbert will select a guy with this low tackle. I’m not confident, but I don’t see a ton of other needs.
Round 1, Pick 23- Philadelphia Eagles- LOLB-Cody Barton- 23 years old, 6’2”, 237 lbs.
90 SPD | 67 STR | 50 AWR | 81 AGI | 85 ACC | 84 TAK
Barton is the only elite speed OLB pre skew in this draft. The Eagles need an injection of speed at the position and so Barton is a good fit.
Round 1, Pick 24- Chicago Bears- SS-Saquon Hampton- 21 years old, 6’1”, 205 lbs.
92 SPD | 77 STR | 50 AWR | 93 AGI | 91 ACC | 46 CTH | 86 JMP | 71 TAK
The safety position is pretty deep in this draft and the Bears snag a good one in Hampton. He’s young, strong, and athletic. A great fit and value at pick 24.
Round 1, Pick 25- Jacksonville Jaguars- ROLB-Josh Allen- 22 years old, 6’4”, 250 lbs.
79 SPD | 78 STR | 66 AWR | 84 AGI | 93 ACC | 69 TAK
Will never seems to care too much about OLB”s, but there is a clear need at ROLB and I suspect Allen skews up in speed. He could turn out to be a poor man’s Aldon Smith. Will probably hates the reference lol, but it makes sense to me.
Round 1, Pick 26- Philadelphia Eagles- HB-Bennie Snell- 22 years old, 5’11’, 222 lbs.
92 SPD | 78 STR | 59 AWR | 71 AGI | 95 ACC | 86 CAR | 74 BTK
The Eagles add a starting RB to their stable with Snell here in the late first. I don’t love his agility but other than that he looks really good.
Round 1, Pick 27- Carolina Panthers- LE-Chase Winovich- 23 years old, 6’3”, 255 lbs.
80 SPD | 60 STR | 49 AWR | 76 AGI | 85 ACC | 71 TAK
The Panthers missed some higher level DE’s but Winovich still has a lot to offer and a positive skew in speed would make this an even better value.
Round 1, Pick 28- Cleveland Browns- WR-Parris Campbell- 23 years old, 6’0”, 205 lbs.
98 SPD | 69 STR | 48 AWR | 93 AGI | 94 ACC | 80 CTH | 85 JMP
Campbell is an elite speed receiver who could immediately strengthen a good WR core in Cleveland.
Round 1, Pick 29- Arizona Cardinals- CB-Justin Layne- 23 years old, 6’2”, 192 lbs.
94 SPD | 50 STR | 53 AWR | 93 AGI | 99 ACC | 60 CTH | 86 JMP | 75 TAK
The Cardinals came on strong at the end of 2018 and could have easily advanced to the Super Bowl had a couple of plays gone differently. They boast a strong roster but I think they add particularly at CB. Layne has some high end physical attributes for a 6’2” CB. He would fit well in Arizona.
Round 1, Pick 30- Houston Texans- RE-Zach Allen- 23 years old, 6’4”, 284 lbs.
74 SPD | 87 STR | 53 AWR | 74 AGI | 79 ACC | 69 TAK
The Texans had a great 2018. They will attempt to run it back in 2019 but they could use an upgrade at RE. Allen possesses some unique skills that make him a prime starter at RE>
Round 1, Pick 31- Pittsburgh Steelers- WR-Gary Jennings Jr.- 23 years old, 6’1”, 210 lbs
96 SPD | 62 STR | 55 AWR | 89 AGI | 97 ACC | 78 CTH | 71 JMP
The Steelers have good receivers that are getting older. This is another deep draft at WR and Jennings Jr. is future starter quality and can play the slot in year one.
Round 1, Pick 32- Minnesota Vikings- RT-Tytus Howard- 22 years old, 6’6”, 308 lbs.
68 SPD | 95 STR | 61 AWR | 71 AGI | 71 ACC | 86 PBK | 83 RBK
The Vikings lost LT-Ty Sambrailo to the Chargers so Howard makes sense as a replacement at the position.
