[1.17] OG Michael Deiter, Wisconsin
========> 22 years old | 6'4” | 328 lbs | 76 SPD | 78 AGI | 80 ACC | 77 PBK | 74 RBK | 94 STR | 52 AWR
Rams sent a future 1st to San Diego for this pick. The Rams have a lot of different ways they could go with this pick, but I get a hunch they may need some help in the trenches. Dieter is my #3 OL in the draft, just behind the guy going with the next pick, but I think the Rams could moreso use their guy at OG... and with Deiter already there, it protects him from dipping below 52 AWR. Dieter is an athletic freak, who can pull block and do all the things you need your OG mauler do, but he will need a little work on his blocking skills. He could easily be a day 1 starter, however, as LG and RG are notoriously the easiest OL positions to progress. Even as a rookie, Dieter should approach 50ish pancakes with less than 5 sacks.
[1.18] OL Yodny Cajuste, West Virginia
========> 21 years old | 6’5" | 321 lbs | 76 SPD | 56 AGI | 78 ACC | 84 PBK | 83 RBK | 99 STR | 56 AWR
The Giants sadly get a great pick here, as Yodny is my #2 OL. That SPD/ACC combo, with 99 STR, AND dope blocking? Plus 21 years old? Everything you're looking for in a lineman. I haven't seen his name mentioned much in the mocks, so I'm guessing some GMs are hoping to hide him until the 2nd, but a savvy GM will snatch him up sometime tonight. Romeo is definitely a smart GM. He may have bigger needs, but I know he was heavily invested in FA OL bidding, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him get an OL in the top 2 rounds this year.
[1.19] MLB Devin White, LSU
========> 24 years old | 6’2” | 236 lbs | 87 SPD | 87 AGI | 85 ACC | 65 STR | 73 AWR | 93 TAK
Won't try too hard on this one, so I'll keep it short. MLB looks like a need for Chicago. One thing I found out rooting for Devin White in Tampa is that, despite being very talented, he's difficult to deal with and kind of a prick. He should fit in perfectly in SFL Chicago. If Devin was younger and stronger, he'd be gone by now.
[1.20] DE Maxx Crosby, Eastern Michigan
========> 21 years old | 6’5” | 247 lbs | 76 SPD | 87 AGI | 87 SPD | 87 STR | 62 TAK
Raiders are BACK on the clock. What a draft his could be for the RAY-DUHS!
So far I have them taking a starting OL, DT, and nickel CB. Who next? How about they snatch up Raiders icon Maxx Crosby? He's not a perfect prospect, as his SPD is unprotected from skew, so I expect him to fall, but he's not bad value at 20. He's a natural fit in silver and black. C'mon, admit it. Phil starting his Raiders tenure by going 3/4 in the TRENCHES would be the most Mellon shit ever.
[1.21] CB Jamel Dean, Auburn
========> 21 years old | 6'2" | 208 lbs | 89 SPD | 97 AGI | 93 ACC | 63 CTH | 59 TAK | 52 AWR | 85 JMP
Garth flirted with the idea of moving up to 1.7, and he was vocal on his trade block about wanting a CB. We had some back and forth about the move, and while we couldn't get on the same page for a draft day trade for the 2nd year in a row, I get the sense he WILL be taking a CB at this pick. Unlike last year, where he seemed to regret us not being able to hammer out a trade, if Dean is there at 21, I think he'll be happy he stayed pat this year. First of all, Garth loves agility in his CBs, and Dean has 97... boing. His SPD could be suspect, but is ballpark enough you can work with it. Him only being 21 is a huge plus, and he's got great size. I think Dean, the kid who played nearby in the state of Alabama, will love playing in Atlanta.
[1.22] CB Sean Murphy-Bunting, Central Michigan
========> 22 years old | 6' | 195 lbs | 90 SPD | 95 AGI | 99 ACC | 62 AWR | 45 CTH | 65 TAK
ALMOST back to back picks with talented (yet flawed) players from obscure Mid-Atlantic Michigan teams. You know what we DID get though? Back to back picks random CBs who flamed out with the NFL Buccaneers, my team. The SFL version of these two, like Carlton Davis last year in Pittsburgh, will likely be much better than their NFL counterparts. I think Bunting with his high AWR and solid tackling will fit in perfect in Baltimore. They have a lot of talent at the position already, but where don't they? Just going BPA here for a smart GM. I'm sure he'll have some big spreadsheet with his own BPA, and that's why I expect him to take. Also, while we're talking about Bucs, that's actually 3/4 picks in a row with RL Bucs, if you count Devin White. Neat.
(I know nobody cares.)
[1.23] WR Deebo Samuel, South Carolina
========> 21 years old | 6' | 208 lbs | 64 AWR | 95 SPD | 97 AGI | 94 ACC | 84 CTH | 77 CAR | 50 STR | 72 BTK
The Eagles honestly need some help in a lot of spots - WR, OLB, OL, and QB being the most glaring in my opinion. Of the three, I think the easiest to fix here is by taking Deebo, who should be a really good slot WR, and potentially WR1. Peter is a very good GM, and he famously took (an eirly similar) Stefon Diggs when he was in San Fran... and then liked him so much he brought him to Philly with him. Deebo has sure hands, and while his value may be closer to 2.4 (where Peter got Diggs), the reality is this class drops off a bit after the top 16 picks, so this is not bad value for Deebo. I wonder if Peter will try to wait until 26 to take a WR... but I don't think Deebo would make it that far.
[1.24] OLB Rashan Gary, Michigan
========> 22 years old | 6'5" | 277 lbs | 77 SPD | 85 AGI | 87 ACC | 84 STR | 75 TAK | 66 CTH | 48 AWR
Hey, it's that Bears GM again. Let's give them another LB. This one is big but is not a big prick, he's just big. If his speed gets better, he might not be around this late.
TL;DR? Hi
BB
L Drizzy.
[1.25] WR J.J. Arcega Whiteside, Stanford
========> 22 years old | 6'3” | 225 lbs | 91 SPD | 93 AGI | 95 ACC | 73 AWR | 73 CTH | 89 JMP | 69 INJ | 96 KR | 64 CAR | 59 STR
While I'm not sure who Will is targeting here, I do feel I have a little bit of a better grasp on his team building strategy today than I did a week ago. Will actually entrusted me with his handy dandy recruitment tools (i.e. what he looks for in a prospect), and I'm not 100% sure, but I think J.J. satisfies that formula. He's big, he's got good speed, he ain't no dummy. He also brings a lot of utility to the table with his KR and the new KR progression system that might help him get that AWR to 90 even quicker. I do wonder if the 69 INJ rating makes the KR risk not worth it. The Jags have an amazing young QB, but not much to catch the ball. Bringing in this talented 22 year old would help.
[1.26] QB Drew Lock, Missouri
========> 21 years old | 6'3” | 226 lbs | 66 AWR | 88 THP | 84 THA
Don't tear me apart for this pick. Just hear me out. They have a mentor on the roster already, despite no mentorable QB. Connor Cook is clearly not the option at 71 AWR and 24 years old. If Cook was the guy, he'd have got more than 22 passes last year. Lock is only 21 years old, so just a huge runway to develop him. Peter is new in Philly, and had three wins last year... so just needs 4 this year to prevent losing a year on his contract (that already has a couple years left). That is essential when developing a QB. They could play Sanchize enough to get to 4 or 5 wins, mentor the kid, and try to get Lock 500 passing yards each progression period. You could be looking at a guy who is mid to upper 80's in AWR by the time he's 23 or 24. Now... if his THP goes DOWN in the PW, forget everything I just said. But with his attributes, I'm fairly certain you get at least ONE Training Camp out of him to boost that THA and AWR this year. It just seems like the move a good GM with job security makes. I hope I'm wrong.
[1.27] CB Iman Marshall, USC
========> 22 years old | 6' | 202 lbs | 92 SPD | 81 AGI | 96 ACC | 50 TAK | 68 AWR | 46 CTH
Lots of mocks have Panthers getting a WR to go with the rookie QB here, but I just think CB is such a bigger need. They spent some coin in FA on an interesting WR, and they have holdovers. At CB? Nothing. Iman has AWR high enough that he could contribute pretty soon, even if he has the same anti-agility bug many talented CBs in this class have. I think Marshall would be a good add, and since he's 68 AWR already, you don't feel so bad that this guy will never be mentored in his career because Minshew is gonna eat that.
[1.28] DE/OLB Brian Burns, Florida State
========> 23 years old | 6'5” | 235 lbs | 82 SPD | 83 AGI | 86 ACC | 82 STR | 41 AWR | 70 TAK
Hey, I'm on the clock. This is totally a homer pick, being a FSU enthusiast. Obviously if you read part one, you know that the Detroit deal for 1.7 fell apart and Frank Clark is NOT a Cowboy... bummer. And there certainly weren't any talent worthy of the Top 7 picks at DE. Few GMs were rocked as hard by the re-skew as we were, as we came into this draft NEEDING a DE. We built our offseason around drafting a DE, and getting compensation for Mario Edwards Jr in Pre-Draft FA. It just didn't pan out. Nick Bosa would have looked good in Big D... and that Patriot would have loved playing for Jerry Jones. But truth be told, after the re-skew, we were closer to making a different Bosa a Cowboy than the one in this draft. That's right, Scott and I had preliminary talks about making Joey Bosa a Cowboy for 1.7 and 2.4, but ultimately we couldn't pull the trigger. And while I don't love that Burns is so thin... and that his SPD could literally get devastated with a bad skew... Just going off base stats, he's a guy that we could put on the edge in a 43, or put outside at OLB in the 34. I don't really expect him to be available this late, but if he is, it will be in the discussion to move Montgomery to RE and plug Burns (with LOTS of AP) in at LE.
[1.29] TE Noah Fant, Iowa
========> 22 years old | 6'5" | 241 lbs | 85 SPD | 87 AGI | 83 ACC | 71 CTH | 76 STR | 49 PBK | 49 RBK
Not much of a blocker, Fant is a wonderful passing target to add to an exploding pass offense in the desert. Egnew is regressing, so it could be time to pull the trigger. Many would consider this a slide, based on other mocks, as folks have TEs going early. Value with need puts Fant here, but Scott is a fantastic GM, and I'm sure whoever he gets will be awesome.
[1.30] HB Darrell Henderson Jr., Memphis
========> 21 years old | 5'8” | 208 lbs | 93 SPD | 81 AGI | 91 ACC | 83 STR | 85 BTK | 76 CAR
I'm mocking a HB here for all the reasons I listed a HB would be a good fit in part one at 1.7! Henderson has shaky AGI, otherwise I think he'd be going much higher than this, but his STR/BTK combo, coupled with good SPD/ACC, makes me think he'll be a highly successful power back in a couple seasons. Is he too small? Will his quickness skew down? Lots of things that could drop Henderson into the 2nd round, but I think he's got just enough that the 21 year old is worth a flier here at the end of the 1st.
[1.31] WR Parris Campbell, Ohio State
========> 23 years old | 6' | 205 lbs | 98 SPD | 93 AGI | 94 ACC | 69 STR | 80 CTH | 85 JMP | 48 AWR
Campbell is very talented, but he's not 6'4", and he ONLY has 94 ACC, so he's getting a little lost in the shuffle. But unlike SPD, which only gets a rookie boost, ACC gets a bonus sophomore boost... so as long as Campbell doesn't skew down, this guy is very much in play for 99 SPD / 99 ACC. Tack on good STR and starting CTH, and I think you have great value at the end of the 1st. Ole seems like he wants to trade out, but maybe someone at the top of the 2nd will move up to secure their guy before everyone has an evening to look over what's left and realize what great value this is this late.... or even worse, before the Super Bowl Champions snatch him a pick later.
[1.32] DT Dexter Lawrence, Clemson
========> 21 years old | 6'4" | 350 lbs | 71 SPD | 62 AGI | 81 ACC | 93 STR | 68 TAK | 51 AWR
The CHAMPS are here!!! This was a hard one to mock, but I just simply went to Neal's mock and found the guy he had mocked the HIGHEST that I don't have on a team yet. He seemed very high on Lawrence, and while I confess 21 years old with 350lbs looks great on paper... but he also has low STR, LOW AWR, and low TAK. That said, you can probably get some STR from TC, and rookie and sophomore boosts... so if you're willing to wait, this could be a really nice prospect in two years. Neal has hinted he may be re-tooling a bit at some positions, so perhaps he has the time to groom a young NT.
Thanks for reading! No version 2 this year, with the draft tonight... but I may be able to get a 1st round draft grades article out next week! Enjoy!
