I've been involved in these GM leagues for a several seasons now and have even been lucky enough (Yes, I finally admit it's been luck) to win three championships between the NAFL and MFL but I've never done a mock draft. Usually I don't draft early with this year being no exception. This should be a fun adventure but I'll be honest someone like Will, Tom or Kevin might provide a more accurate mock.
With that being said, here goes! BTW, I'm expecting this to take me a very long time to do.
1.1 | Arizona Cardinals & GM Tyler Richardson
QB Carson Palmer | 6'4" | 23 years old | College: USC
AWR 76 | THP 97 | THA 90 | INJ 91 | TGH 88
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2133&skin=lpIn my opinion this is as close to a no brainer as it gets which is also why I think Tyler could shock us all as I don't think he likes to go with flow and take the most popular player. With that being said plus the fact of Tyler trading last yea'rs QB David Carr I think he goes QB. Personally if it were me I'd hope Palmer's THP skews down a bit but he's ready to start and lead his team towards a potential division title.
-----
1.2 | Detroit Lions & GM Brad Butler
QB Byron Leftwich | 6'6" | 23 years old | College: Marshall
AWR 66 | THP 92 | THA 92 |
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2249&skin=lpTo be honest I wasn't sold on Brad and the Lions going with Leftwich here but after seeing the WR's he won via free agency I believe he will pass on who I originally though he'd take, WR Andre Johnson. In the end Leftwich has too good of a combo of THP and THA to pass on. (Ha, Ha, get it? "To Pass On" pun intended)
-----
1.3 | Dallas Cowboys & Will Cook
WR Andre Johnson | 6'2" | 22 years old | College: Miami
SPD 93 | AWR 69 | AGI 94 | ACC 92 | CTH 85 | JMP 96 |
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2335&skin=lpCrap. This stinks. What I'd like to see happen here is for Will to take Rex Grossman but I don't think it happens. I think Will is satisfied to mildly tank for another season, all the time looking up and seeing the New York Giants and hopefully the Washington Redskins. This move could set Will and the Cowboys up for a shot at a good QB in next years draft to be paired with a pro bowl type rookie WR in Johnson.
-----
1.4 | Buffalo Bills & GM Brad Lindgren
CB | Nnamdi Asomugha | 6'2" | 22 years old | College: California
SPD 91 | AWR 53 | AGI 94 | ACC 92 | JMP 92 | CTH 62 | TAK 60 |
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2292&skin=lpAt first I had Rex Grossman slotted here however after seeing how the Bills traded CB Nate Clements to the Cowboys and the fact the best CB on their roster is 5'9" and they play in a division with QB Tom Brady I think they chose a franchise shutdown CB in Asomugha.
-----
1.5 | Jacksonville Jaguars & GM Jason Arnold
QB Rex Grossman | 6'1" | 22 years old | College: Florida
AWR 67 | THP 99 | THA 85
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2124&skin=lpSimilar to Palmer, ideally if this were me I'd hope Grossman's THP skews down but I think Grossman does in fact find himself to be the Jags QB of the future. GM Arnold is now glad he paid big money for an elite lineman such as Brian Waters as even at the guard position Grossman will need as much protection as he can get during his rookie season.
-----
1.6 | Cleveland Browns and GM Tom Collins
MLB EJ Henderson | 6'0" | 23 years old | College: Maryland
SPD 85 | STR 80 | AWR 66 | AGI 88 | ACC 88 | TAK 87 |
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2354&skin=lpI have to admit I was thinking Tom may take a WR here to be paired with his new QB David Carr or even a CB but after looking at MLB Henderson I don't see how Tom or anyone else could really pass on this guy. Some GM's are not big on MLB's but I am one of the exceptions and prefer to have a stud MLB directing my defense. Tom could land a great one here.
-----
1.7 | Pittsburgh Steelers & GM Bill Ryan
CB Marcus Trufant | 5'11" | 22 years old | College: Washington State
SPD 95 | AWR 65 | AGI 88 | ACC 96 | CTH 65 | JMP 93 | TAK 53
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2323&skin=lpI believe GM Ryan and the Steelers take CB Trufant here. Even though he's just shy of the magic 6' mark he has the speed, acceleration, jump and awareness that makes the Steelers pull the trigger on their new franchise CB.
-----
1.8 | Carolina Panthers & GM Breck
WR Tyrone Calico | 6'3" | 22 years old | College: Middle Tennessee State
SPD 94 | AWR 57 | AGI 93 | ACC 92 | CTH 79 | JMP 79
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2346&skin=lpBreck doesn't look past this 6'3" 223 # WR who just happens to have 94 speed. GM Breck and veteran QB Mark Brunell are both as happy as can be with this pick. Personally I like a WR with good jump but most GM's say it doesn't make matter at all- who know but with 6'3" and 94 speed who cares about jump.
-----
1.9 | Jacksonville Jaguars & GM Jason Arnold
MLB Angelo Crowell | 6'1" | 23 years old | College: Virginia
SPD 85 | STR 81 | AWR 63 | AGI 85 | ACC 85 | TAK |
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2200&skin=lpThis may be a pick that is way off but the Jags need a MLB and Crowell is going to be a great one so in my mind it makes sense that Crowell doesn't make it out of the top 10. For most it's probably a long shot a pair of MLB's go in the top 9 but hey, make me change my mind!
-----
1.10 | Seattle Seahawks & GM Rock Hewko
RE Ty Warren | 6'5" | 22 years old | College: Texas A&M
SPD 86 | STR 73 | AGI 79 | ACC 84 | TAK 67 | AWR
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2139&skin=lpOnce you look at Warren's attributes you realize he's a beast! The hottest free agent this season had very similar attributes and he's now earning $12M+ per season. I believe GM Rock moves Warren to LE and he gets 10+ sacks in his rookie season even with his extremely low awareness.
-----
1.11 | Arizona Cardinals and GM Tyler Richardson
RB Musa Smith | 6'0" | 21 years old | College: Georgia
SPD 92 | STR 81 | AGI 88 | ACC 94 | CAR 74 | BTK 81
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2311&skin=lpI realize most might not think RB Smith makes it out of the top 10 but I think he does, just barely. If he does in fact drop from the top 10 I believe GM Richardson grabs him here with the 11th pick and gives the Cardinals a very bright future with a stud rookie QB & RB combo.
-----
1.12 | Cincinnati Bengals & GM Brady Tinnin
CB Charles Tillman | 6'1" | 22 years old | College: Unv Louisiana of Lafayette
SPD 93 | AWR 52 | AGI 95 | ACC 90 | JMP 89 | CTH 66 | TAK 52 |
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2126&skin=lpIf one of the top two MLB's are here I beleive they may be picked before CB Tillman. I even considered MLB Nick Barnett here and very nearly picked him. I believe Brady grabs a CB though.
-----
1.13 | Buffalo Bills & GM Brad Lindgren
ROLB Alonzo Jackson | 6'4" | 22 years old | College: Florida State
SPD 83 | STR 82 | AWR 60 | AGI 83 | ACC 87 | TAK 73
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2332&skin=lpThe Bills are without a ROLB on their roster at the moment. After pick 13 this is no longer the case. I believe Jackson goes to the Bills here and he enjoys a pro bowl career in Buffalo.
-----
1.14 | Miami Dolphins & GM Darren Roberts
RT Jordan Gross | 6'5" | 23 years old | College: Utah
SPD 62 | STR 91 | AWR 68 | AGI 60 | ACC 71 | PBK 86 | RBK 89
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2280&skin=lpI didn't quite know where to go with this one. I have a feeling there will be more of that to come, lol. I was tempted to give Darren and the Dolphins MLB Barnett but I think he goes with protection for newly acquired QB Tim Couch.
-----
1.15 | Atlanta Falcons & GM Dhani Aldila
SS Mike Doss | 5'10" | 22 years old | College: Ohio State
SPD 90 | STR 67 | AWR 71 | AGI 95 | ACC 92 | CTH 69 | JMP 96 | TAK 74
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2192&skin=lpIn my opinion this guy is going to be a killer! I think the Falcons strike gold here with the 15th pick.
-----
1.16 | Arizona Cardinals & GM Tyler Richardson
CB Drayton Florence | 6'0" | 22 years old | College: Tuskegee
SPD 91 | AWR 50 | AGI 98 | ACC 92 | JMP 93
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2179&skin=lpI know I might be stretching here but I know Tyler likes drafting CB's and he has a large need at CB. I believe it comes down to Florence having better physical attributes than Terrance Newman.
-----
1.17 | Washington Redskins & GM Bryan Mellon
QB Kyler Boller | 6'3" | 22 years old | College: California
AWR 72 | THP 88 | THA 84
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2309&skin=lpGM Barber and the Lions trade this pick to the GM Mellon and the Redskins find their QB with Kyler Boller. Yep.... it works and has NOTHING to do with my original mock where the Lions picked two QB's.
-----
1.18 | Buffalo Bills and GM Brandon Lindgren
ROLB Bradie James | 6'2" | 22 years old | Louisiana State
SPD 86 | STR 78 | AWR 62 | AGI 82 | ACC 80 | TAK 79
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2206&skin=lpI believe the Bills and GM Lindgren draft another OLB here with pick 18. While this does in fact make two ROLB's GM Lindgren simply moved one to LOLB and had a dynamic duo for years to come.
-----
1.19 | Jacksonville Jaguars & Jason Arnold
WR Charles Rogers | 6'2" | 22 years old | College: Michigan State
SPD 92 | AWR 71 | AGI 86 | ACC 88 | CTH 80 | JMP 85
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2269&skin=lpI feel as if the Jags and GM Arnold go with a WR here. There's multiple ones to pick from but I think ultimately they go with Rogers.
-----
1.20 | Tampa Bay Bucs & GM Paul Criswell
WR Bethel Johnson | 5'11 | 24 years old | Texans A&M
SPD 95 | AGI 94 | ACC 92 | JMP 92
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2286&skin=lpWith the Bucs main receivers being 30 years of age or older I believe this would be a good time for the Bucs to grab speedy Johnson. He's got great speed, agility, acceleration and jump making him a very attractive target.
-----
1.21 | New Orleans Saints & GM Nathan Jones
MLB Nick Barnett | 6'1" | 22 years old | College: Oregon State
SPD 81 | STR 76 | AWR 76 | AGI 86 | ACC 83 | TAK 95
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2275&skin=lpThis, in my opinion is an absolute STEAL at 1.21. Barnett is going to lead the Saints defense and be a tackling machine. He's already better than the majority of MLB's in the SFL and will only continue to get better.
-----
1.22 | Arizona Cardinals & GM Tyler Richardson
RT Brett Williams | 6'5" | 23 years old | College: Florida State
68 SPD | 93 STR | AGI 77 | ACC 82 | PBK 81 | RBK 87
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2189&skin=lpRookie QB Carson Palmer gains some valuable protection with GM Richardson taking RT Williams with the 22nd pick. I believe he may be moved to LT.
-----
1.23 | Carolina Panthers & GM Breck
LT Kwame Harris | 6'5" | 21 years old | College: Stanford
SPD 64 | STR 91 | AWR 58 | AGI 71 | ACC 71 | PBK 84 | RBK 85
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2234&skin=lpGM Breck shores up his offensive line with the pick of Harris at 23. Harris has good speed, agility and acceleration to go along with a very well balanced set of blocking skills.
-----
1.24 | San Diego Chargers & GM Anthony Cepparulo
WR David Tyree | 6'1" | 23 years old | College: Syracuse
SPD 93 | STR 76 | AGI 93 | ACC 96 | CTH 71 | JMP 95
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2245&skin=lpGM AC takes the very talented WR Tyree here. There's a chance Tyree is taken before a couple other WR's I previously slotted so this pick could easily be flip flopped with another WR.
-----
1.25 | New York Giants & GM Romero Mendez
SS Troy Polamalu | 5'10" | 22 years old | College: USC
SPD 81 | STR 73 | AWR 73 | AGI 86 | ACC 86 | TAK 77
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2331&skin=lpString safety looks to be a position of need for the Giants and GM Mendez. Polamalu lacks speed but has everything else needed to be a big player for the Giants.
-----
1.26 | Carolina Panthers & GM Breck
FS Bryan Scott | 6'1" | 22 years old | College: Penn State
SPD 91 | AGI 97 | ACC 95 | JMP 90 | TAK 66
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2228&skin=lpBreck and the Panthers luck out with the 26th pick as FS Scott looks to be the real deal. There's a possibility he is drafted much earlier. No matter who drafts him FS Scott has a very bright future ahead.
1.27 | Seattle Seahawks & GM Rock Hewko
CB Terence Newman | 5'10 | 24 years old | College: Kansas State
SPD 90 | AWR 68 | AGI 90 | ACC 93 | CTH 64 | JMP 87
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2204&skin=lpRock brings in secondary help with the pick of CB Newman. WHile perhaps doing nothing excellent he does many things well and should fit right in with the Seahawks.
-----
1.28 | New England Patriots & GM Travis Robbins
RB Chris Brown | 6'2" | 22 years old | College: Colorado
SPD 85 | STR 88 | AGI 86 | ACC 89 | CAR 76 | BTK 78
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2347&skin=lpI believe GM Robbins and the Pats may be looking for a RB in this spot. There's several available but I think it will be hard to pass on Brown's unique combination of amazing strength and impressive acceleration.
-----
1.29 | Baltimore Ravens & GM Norbert
LE Terrell Suggs | 6'3" | 23 years old | College: Arizona State
SPD 68 | STR 82 | AWR 72 | ACC 78 | TAK 82
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2353&skin=lpI think GM Norbert is going to break the fourth wall and draft the same player the NFL's Baltimore Ravens did in the multiverse during their 2003 draft. Suggs may not have the speed but he has size and strength which will work just fine in GM Norbert's 3-4 defense.
-----
1.30 | Miami Dolphins & GM Darren Roberts
WR Anquan Boldin | 6'1" | 22 years old | College: Florida State
SPD 93 | AWR 71 | AGI 88 | ACC 91 | CTH 76 | JMP 91
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2171&skin=lpGM Roberts will take WR Boldin as he drops to the bottom of the first round. Boldin will provide the Dolphins with another reliable pass catcher who will continue to grow.
-----
1.31 | Indianapolis Colts & GM Ian Coyle
CB Antwoine Sanders | 6'3" | 23 years old | College: Utah
SPD 90 | AGI 88 | ACC 91 | JMP 89
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2317&skin=lpThe Cots need CB's and while Sanders isn't extremely polished he has superior heightwith good speed and acceleration which can't be taught. This could be a very interesting pick.
-----
1.32 | San Fran 49'ers and GM Peter Fenger
RB Willis McGahee | 6'0" | 21 years old | College: Miami
SPD 89 | STR 82 | AGI 86 | ACC 90 | CAR 74 | BTK 75
http://smashmouth-football.net/draft.php?section=warroom&sub=card&id=2142&skin=lpThe 49'ers land what looks to be a very reliable workhorse in RB McGahee with the last pick in the first round of the draft. A positive skew could make McGahee someone who should have been taken early in the draft.
-----
Wow, well there it is my first mock draft. I'm sure there's going to be many, many GM's who disagree with my choices but hey, that's what makes all of this fun. Good luck to all of you with the exception of Will, Romeo and Leo as I hope my divisional rivals really hit duds with all their picks.
