My Value Picks in each round- Pre Skew
By Brad Barber
Special to sfl-football.com

I think every team improved with this past draft this weekend but I'm going to point out who I thought were good value picks where they were drafted. I'm sure your opinion is different than mine so feel free to let me know your thoughts in the comments below. Also note that I only had 8 Private Workouts and used some on QB's so I wasn't able to see how every player skewed which is why I said pre-skew :D .

Round 1

CB Marcus Trufant
This guy is a complete player, I don't care if he's 5'9" or 6'3" he was the top CB in this draft class and to me it was by a pretty wide margin. Everything about screams he will be a top CB in this league for a long time.

DE Ty Warren
I didn't think Warren would make it out of the top 10 so I thought this was an excellent value pick here, he was the top rated DE on my draft board with Osi Umenyora right after, Tyler selected Uminyora over him so maybe a more favorable skew went to Osi but I can't see that so I went with Warren here, great value pick by the dirty birds.

OLB Alonzo Jackson
Another prospect who had no business making out of the top 10, he looks like a stud LB who could move over to LOLB and really make a difference rushing the passer, solid pickup here.

RT Jordan Gross
How does a top notch RT slip all the way to 1.24 after the first RT was taken at 1.5? Gross looks like a great prospect, he's athletic, smart 68 AWR, already has adequate run and pass blocking with STR to boot. With so many OL needy teams it's surprising to me that he fell this far down.

HB Musa Smith
I'll follow Gross with the pick right after, how can the best RB fall almost to the 2nd round with so many teams needing help at the skill positions. I passed on him only because my OL was complete trash and I don't want my QB to die on the first pass but I really was contemplating Smith with my 1.17 pick, very good value there for the Pats.

ROUND 2

LG Kris Dielman
The cards have had a stellar draft to this point and keep reaping the rewards here as they land what I thought was the best G in this draft and again who I thought would be a 1st rounder in Dielman anytime you land 1st round talent in a later round it's a win.

LT Wade Smith
I thought Smith was an excellent pickup here, He's already an adequate blocker, athletic and if his STR stays the same or goes up this is a real nice find at this stage as your starting LT.

DE Tyler Brayton
I get that the guy doesn't have great STR but he appears to be one of those rare athletic freaks who already comes as a decent tackler which isn't always the case. I had him ranked as the 3rd best DE in this draft class so for Daren to land him here is a steal.

CB Terence Newman
Again the Dolphins get amazing value here with Newman, I truly thought he was already drafted because there is no way he should have dropped this far. I get that he's 5'10" and already 24 years old but he's on par with the rest of this league of smaller CB's who have middle of the pack SPD plus he already comes with 68 AWR, pretty solid choices here in the 2nd for the Phins and was ranked a 1st round talent in 2 of the 3 mock drafts and the 2nd best CB in the top 3 article.

QB Kyle Boller
For weeks it was said that Kyle Boller was the next best after the top 3 were taken and it didn't play out that way come draft day as 2 QB's were taken before him. I was told he skews down but he can wait behind Favre. I was hoping Gary would suffer long after Favre retired but no such luck now.

ROUND 3

OLB Eddie Moore
I had Moore rated the 2nd best LOLB in this draft class, excellent value here for Will starting off the 3rd.

WR Sam Aiken
He's a 6'2" WR which is a big dude for this league since most seem to be smaller. Aiken isn't elite at any particular attribute but he looks just overall like a solid prospect if things stay the same or improve through skew, his 46 AWR is low but other than that I like the value here for the Jags.

CB Antoine Sanders
I'm going to assume he skews down in just about everything and his 46 AWR will make him a victim of many passes thrown on him but if he can get worked on I'm sure he can be a real threat in this league because there aren't many his size in the league and even if everything goes down it's great value here imo.

ROUND 4

CB Ike Taylor
I thought the Texans had a solid draft, Ike Taylor here in the 4th was very good value. He's a bigger CB, maybe he gets some help with the skew but if not he isn't worthless as he has some nice attributes like his 94 JMP, I realize the AWR sucks, being in the 40's but were in the 4th round now and you're always looking for potential starters or future starters in these rounds.

TE Visanthe Shiancoe
I stated in an article I was looking at 4 TE's but i was looking at 5... Witten, Clark, Johnson, Smith and Shiancoe all were on my radar. Shiancoe has some good height at 6'4", he's not all that aware but he looks like he's pretty athletic in a league where there isn't much talent at the TE position so I liked the value here.

ROUND 5

CB Torrie Cox
I know some people will destroy this pick, a 5'9" corner yadda yadda but you get that putrid AWR up and he will be a dynamite as your nickel corner until all the WR in this league are over 6'0" tall he still has a shot at being a pretty decent corner for a few more seasons.

FS Ken Hamlin
Hamlin is a big boy at 6'2" so he has the advantage there plus he's not a dumbass completely with his AWR in the 60's and middle of the pack athleticism which is a plus in round 5.

ROUND 6

DT Kevin Williams
I have a suspicion that DT Kevin Williams will skew up in everything, the guy was a mid 1st rounder in 2003, I know these don't always work like that but i think in this case it will plus I like that he's a decent athlete so if that STR skews upward also then you have a starter worthy DT in round 6.

P Derrick Frost
Punters are people too!!!! I had him ranked as the top P in this draft and field position can mean everything in games.

K Aaron Elling
Kickers are people too!!! I had him as my highest rated K in the draft, it's no surprise that the Seahawks took him, what is a surprise is that he didn't at least use a 2nd round pick on him, you're slipping man. :D

ROUND 7

WR LaTarence Dunbar
The dude made draft gem so he is now a stud WR for the Steelers, congrats Bill. So Dunbar will have the same attributes as the last WR in round 1 which will be one fast as hell 7th rounder since Bobby Wade was the last WR taken in round 1.
