With the 2003 season almost being over, I thought it would be fun to look at how the league adjusted with the Rams PB being banned. Here is the 2003 PB usage snapshot.
Top 10 Playbooks (Offensive):
- Broncos: 143 - Wins: 71 - Losses: 72 - Win : 49.7% - Titans: 31 - Wins: 13 - Losses: 18 - Win: 41.9% - Pass Balanced: 28 - Wins: 15 - Losses: 13 - Win: 53.6% - Packers: 25 - Wins: 18 - Losses: 7 - Win: 72% - Colts: 25 - Wins: 14 - Losses: 11 - Win: 56% - Steelers: 14 - Wins: 4 - Losses: 9 - Tie: 1 - Win : 32.1% - 49ers: 13 - Wins: 9 - Losses: 4 - Win : 69.2% - Lions: 11 - Wins: 10 - Losses: 1 - Win: 90.9% - Trick Plays:10 - Wins: 6 - Losses: 4 - Win: 60% - Bills: 10 - Wins: 3 - Losses: 7 - Win: 30%
Top Teams PB Usage (Offensive): - Ravens: 10-2 - PB Usage: - Titans: 100% - Jets: 10-2 - PB Usage: - Lions: 91.6% - Chiefs: 8.3% - Colts: 10-2 - PB Usage: - Colts: 100% - Dolphins: 10-2 - PB Usage: - 49ers: 58.3% - Broncos: 16.6% - Redskins: 25% - Falcons: 10-2 - PB Usage: - Broncos: 100% - 49ers: 10-2 - PB Usage: - Packers: 91.6% - Titans: 8.3%
Observations/Takeaways: - The Broncos PB has clearly become the new favorite PB - There appears to be little overlap in PB usage among the top teams - For the most part, top teams stick to using only one playbook throughout the season - Packers is a top four playbook in usage and clearly has as a strong winning record - Lions PB has a smaller sample size, but is showing a promising win record - I was interested to see that the Dolphins PB was not more popular
Please share any thoughts you may have on the data.
