PICK | TEAM | PLAYER | ANALYSIS |
1.01 | | QB Philip Rivers | Tennessee has been at the very center of trade talk over the past week, but despite being looser than a Geisha in a Japanese whore house when it comes to trades, GM Gary Cohen has maintained firm on keeping the first overall pick in the draft. It's obvious Rivers is his guy. |
1.02 | | QB Eli Manning | Early reports were that the Cowboys were strong on Ben Roethlisberger, but after some workouts, they've been incredibly surprised with what they've seen out of Eli Manning. Word on the street is they would be ecstatic to see Tennessee pass on Manning and let him drop to the 2nd overall pick. |
1.03 | | LT Tyson Clabo | No changes here. Tyler is trying to move down from a couple of his picks, but they're the later picks. At this juncture, I'm pretty certain that he's going all in on Clabo and the next pick and not much will change my mind about it. |
1.04 | | LOLB Karlos Dansby | Like I said above, no changes here. GM Tyler Richardson knew what picks he needed to land Clabo and Dansby and he'll do so, allowing the teams above him to grab much-needed quarterbacks. This should turn out pretty good for him. |
1.05 | | QB Ben Roethlisberger | In this mock, Big Ben drops to the Jaguars, and it's not overly ideal for them. A team that doesn't have the ability to purchase a tendency change isn't going to be a situation in which Roethlisberger will succeed long term. |
1.06 | | ROLB Teddy Lehman | For a while I thought the Lions would look to add a receiving threat, but from what I'm hearing they're looking more for a defender and the best linebacker still available is Teddy Lehman by far. He'll become a staple of the Detroit defense. |
1.07 | | WR Roy Williams | There have been some rumors going around that Minnesota may try to target Steven Jackson, but I think that GM Neal Wintermute is going to go to the air. Williams is the type of player that would complement Randy Moss very well and provide a 1-2 punch in Minnesota. |
1.08 | | HB Steven Jackson | The league seems split on Steven Jackson, but Chicago is already on the record for liking him. I think it's a good fit and he could be a career Chicago Bear and maybe make the playoffs, something that eluded Steven Jackson in real life. |
1.09 | | DT Marcus Tubbs | GM Brent Lachapelle is known for unconventional selections with other teams he has run, and typically they work out for him. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a big fan of Tubbs and took him with one of this back-to-back selections. |
1.10 | | RG Shawn Andrews | If the Saints want to return to the playoffs, they need to shore up their offensive line. With Clabo already off the board, making a move on Shawn Andrews seems like the correct idea. Despite being listed as a guard, Andrews can likely play anywhere on the line. |
1.11 | | SS Madieu Williams | With Cincinnati putting one of their top-tier safeties as a match eligible player, GM Brady Tinnin may be wanting some future draft capital and focus on selecting a player for that position in this draft. The best safety is likely Madieu Williams. |
1.12 | | CB Greg Brooks | The Bills need to add some depth to their secondary after trading away Nate Clements last season. This year's secondary class isn't overly notable, but Greg Brooks might turn out to be quite a surprise for Buffalo if they decide to take a gander on him. |
1.13 | | FS Bob Sanders | This pick might look a little out of left field, but if Sanders' attributes skew up, he could become quite an interesting prospect for Rock. It's likely the Seahawk GM won't think twice about height at safety and Sanders could turn out to be a stud. |
1.14 | | MLB Landon Johnson | The Eagles have talked about trading this pick for a middle linebacker, so I think it's only fair to mock them the player they mentioned with this pick. Landon Johnson could fill a great need on the inside of the Philadelphia roster. |
1.15 | | MLB Courtney Watson | We're back around to Arizona and like last time, this is where it gets difficult. The Cardinals do need a solid middle linebacker, and despite missing out on Landon Johnson, it's possible they prefer Courtney Watson. |
1.16 | | CB Nathan Jones | Tyler doesn't usually draft smaller cornerbacks (being on the record that they're not successful), but I feel like the speed that Nathan Jones brings to the table will make him reconsider his stance. He's a unique player and could make a difference in the desert. |
1.17 | | DT Vince Wilfork | Tampa Bay needs to start planning for the future and my gut tells me that a stud like Vince Wilfork may be on their radar. With Wilfork not only being a large man, he could quickly become the heir apparent to Warren Sapp. |
1.18 | | FS Sean Taylor | This isn't necessarily a smart pick, but Bryan Mellon has gone on the record of saying this will be his selection if Taylor is still available (which he will be). Using a rare first rounder on Taylor is a touching tribute, so we can't criticize it. |
1.19 | | ROLB Dontarrius Thomas | Pittsburgh needs some speed on defense, so Thomas is the best available player at a position of need for them. While it's not a sexy pick, it is a logical pick and one I could see Pittsburgh making on draft day. |
1.20 | | DT Tommie Harris | Breck likes his men big (a few of you can attest for that personally, I'm sure) and Tommie Harris may be a good selection for the Panthers to select. While he plays a quieter position, he could be a wrecking ball if developed correctly. |
1.21 | | RT Robert Gallery | This pick was going to be Tatum Bell, but with the Ricky Williams trade happening, Cleveland most definitely isn't in need of Bell. But with that, they need someone to block for Ricky, so Gallery will become a solid player for the Browns. |
1.22 | | HB Tatum Bell | GM Jason Arnold can thank the Dolphins for trading away Ricky Williams as that allowed Bell to drop to them. Bell creates a solid 1-2 punch with Roethlisberger, whom if they can tendency change, will now have one of the best long-term offenses in the league. |
1.23 | | DT Tim Anderson | The well is running dry but the Bengals will be looking to continue and shore up their defense. Tim Anderson might not be a name you've heard of a lot, but he could become a contributor in Cincinnati given the chance to make a name for himself. |
1.24 | | FS Guss Scott | At this point, I'm mostly shooting from the hip. Some teams have tipped their hands. Others, have not. The Texans are one who have not, so many it makes sense for a safety to be drafted here and they're likely to grab one before the average players are gone. |
1.25 | | HB Julius Jones | Apparently LaDainian Tomlinson is getting traded. If that's the case, you can't expect the Chargers to run with Brian Westbrook (he's too small). Julius Jones is the best running back available in a league that has gone crazy for strong running backs. |
1.26 | | CB Dunta Robinson | Tennessee needs to turn the bus around quickly, especially with morale. Robinson appears the most SFL-ready cornerback due to his high awareness and could likely start week one for the Titans, who need help at cornerback. |
1.27 | | CB DeAngelo Hall | The cornerback run is a little later in this mock, but at this point, GMs will be looking for potential talent instead of obvious talent. Hall could turn out to be quite a good cornerback, especially in a situation such as New England. |
1.28 | | LT Adrian Jones | Kevin is usually picking higher and able to get an athletic stud, but sitting at 1.28 and getting someone like Adrian Jones is not a bad place to be. Dorsey could turn into a great offensive lineman for the Jets, if he gets the chance to play. |
1.29 | | RG Larry Turner | Daren Roberts has said he wouldn't mind draftfing a career offensive lineman for his team. I would also imagine he would like a running back, but with the top players gone, I doubt he goes that direction at this juncture in the draft. |
1.30 | | LT Travelle Wharton | At this point, offensive linemen may appear the "safest" selections in the draft. Oakland will likely want to improve their offense, so starting with the offensive line isn't a bad idea. Wharton is the best remaining lineman. |
1.31 | | CB Keiwan Ratliff | Word on the street is that this trade is going to Philadelphia for a cornerback, so let's mock the best cornerback left to St. Louis here. With the fast players and the big names off the board, Ratliff may find himself going in the first round. |
1.32 | | CB Bruce Thornton | I bet the Ravens trade down, but adding some depth to their secondary wouldn't be a bad decision here. They could also go for a safety (but the good ones are gone) or offensive line (same story). Thornton seems the best pick. |
