2004 SFL Predictions Mellon?s Take

What the heck, sitting here after watching church service on line while the rest of the Mellon clan are sleeping. I thought I?d give my predictions for our 2004 season. I?m doing this on the fly so I will admit it?s not very well thought out.

Let?s look at my prediction for division winners and wild card teams:

-----
SFL AFC North
Predicted div winner- Baltimore Ravens and GM Norbert Huszti
Why- A veteran QB, solid RB and a great defense can win championships as Norbert showed last season. I see no reason to expect him not to follow up with a div championship even though the Cleveland Browns and GM Tom Collins have added some key pieces.
-----
SFL AFC East
Predicted winner- New England Patriot and GM Travis Robbins
Why- Tom Brady has improved, RB Musa Smith has improved (unless you buy into the Madden rookie bump theory) so I see the Patriots only getting better. I can?t believe I?m not a Kevin Mullendore or Darren Roberts GM?d team. That just goes to show the quality of GM?s in this division. Let?s also not forget the Bills will have a healthy Rex Grossman so they should also improve.
-----
SFL AFC South
Predicited winner- Indy Colts and GM Ian Coyle
Why- The Colts offense. End of story. Sadly for the other GM?s in the AFC South division I don?t think it?s going to be a close race for quite a while which is no fault of their own but rather a testament to the Colts unbelievable offense led by 28 year old Peyton Manning who has thrown for almost 11,000 yards and 90 TD?s in the first two seasons. The more I think about those numbers it?s depressing for everyone else in the league.
-----
SFL AFC West
Predicted winner- Kansas City Chiefs and GM Tim Miller. I like the majority of the things GM Tom Riddell has done in Denver but I think GM Miller rides Priest Holmes until retirement. BTW, Congrats Tim, you have proved Michael Vick can be a winner as a scrambler- awesome stuff!
Why- Priest Holmes. The guy has averaged 6+ yards per carry in each of our first two years of the league not to mention over 4100 yards rushing! That?s nearly as impressive as Peyton Manning?s yardage and TD totals.
-----
SFL AFC Wild Card Teams:
This is tough but I?m going with:
The New York Jets and GM Kevin Mullendore & the Denver Broncos and GM Tom Riddell
-----

-----
SFL NFC North
Predicted winner- Minnesota Vikings and GM Neal Wintermute
Why- I think the Vikings and GM Wintermute have made some key moves this offseason. The Green Bay Packers and GM Gary Hickman can not be counted out but veteran Brett Favre?s injury history in the SFL is worrisome.
-----
SFL NFC East
Predicted winner- I?m going to be a homer here and pick myself, GM Mellon of the Washington Redskins. I would not feel right by doing anything less even if I am not very confident of the choice. Each team in the division has improved. It?s hard to say any one team has more talent than the other. This could come down to a 9-7 team with the division win while the 2nd place team is 8-8.
Why- Nothing more than a homer pick.
-----
SFL NFC South
Predicted winner- I am going with the Carolina Panthers and GM Daryl Breckheimer. I think Breck is going to edge out the very talented Atlanta Falcons and great GM Dhani Aldila. Not far behind are GM?s Paul Criswell and that amazing Tampa Bay Bucs defense and also newly married (sorry about your luck) GM Nate Jones and the New Orleans Saints. This could be another dogfight division (but hey, Michael Vick isn?t here at least?. Get it? Dog fight?. Vick).
-----
SFL NFC West
Predicted winner- What the hell man! I can not do it. I can not pick a winner. This is why I don?t do these types of articles very often. I want to pick GM Peter Fenger and the San Fran 49?ers because I think they just made bulldozer RB Stephen Davis even better by adding 2 points speed to him. With that said I think my pre season pick for GM of the year is going to be Tyler Richardson of the Arizona Cardinals but how can you leave out GM Justin Walstead of the St Louis Rams and their offense, ?The Greatest Show on Turf?? Oh by the way the other GM is Rock Hewko who has a long history of winning. Forget it, I am going with GM Tyler Richardson and the Arizona Cardinals.
-----
SFL NFC Wild Card teams:
Holy crap, this is even tougher than the AFC:
I?ll go with GM Justin Walstead and the St Louis Rams and GM Dhani Jones of the Atlanta Falcons with a sincere apology to GM?s Hickman of the Packers, Mendez of the Giants and Fenger of the 49?ers because not only could any of you win the wild card but the division and the entire league championship.
-----
That?s it I?m never doing one of these again! 
-----

Individual Predictions:

GM of the Year- Tyler Richardson of the Arizona Cardinals

MVP- Peyton Manning of the Indy Colts

Offensive Rookie of the Year- It PAINS ME BIG TIME to say this but?. QB Ben Roethlisberger of the Dallas Cowboys

Defensive Rookie of the Year- Teddy Lehman of the Detroit Lions

Super Bowl- New England Patriots vs St Louis Rams

2004 SFL Champion- New England Patriots
