Super Bowl Odds Playoff Edition
By Brent Lachapelle

Lets take a look at this years teams and their chance at winning the Super Bowl. This version will be a money line odds. For example if a team was favourited at -250 (which is a very strong odd they will win), you would have to lay down $250 to win $100. Total ticket value is then $350. Conversely if you wanted to gamble and place money on the underdog for example. Odds like +650 you require you to place $100 to win $650 and total ticket value is then $750. That's how it works essentially. Now lets see the teams.

Green Bay Packers -200 This team was loaded from the start. Bad news all, it still is. I know Gary Hickman, when he wants to go out and win a Super Bowl that's exactly what he does. I could see the years of frustration weighing heavily on his shoulders and perhaps he has had enough. Lets all hope he continues not paying attention to what is going on around him for another year. Update Previous Odds were at -150. Gary looks to have read this and made a point to try and get in his Super bowl while still having Brett Farve at the helm. I think they are heavy favourites now, I know they didn't finish the season strong but having a bye week should give him the time needed to sort things out.

Indianapolis Colts -175 Here we have the Colts with the almighty Peyton Manning. Surrounded by a generally weak division they will be hard pressed not to make the playoffs this year. With that said, could this be there year? A lot of teams hope it wont be. Update The Colts havent changed odds since the beginning of the season. Manning stayed healthy to start the Playoff run and they also got a bye so this could be rough for the rest of the AFC.

Minnesota Vikings -150 Neal has put on a clinic this season. From coming into the year at the original +200. Any bettors early on have to be pleased at the value they got before. This team is smoking hot right now. As long as the Culpepper to Moss connection stays in tack we should be confident that the Vikes can go toe to toe with anyone right now.

Washington Redskins -150 I can see a scenario where GM Bryan Mellon spends his every waking moment running sim after sim to try and devise the perfect game plan. Considering time is of the essence here. Look for the Redskins to not only get into the big show but push for a shot at the championship. Update The Redskins remain in the same position also. After a early rough start. Bryan was able to right the ship and post a division leading 10-6 season. Resting his starters in week 17 definitely cost him that victory so perhaps this is really an 11-5 team in disguise.

Carolina Panthers -125
New England Patriots -125
San francisco 49ers -125

The trifecta of doom right here. Update First we have the Carolina Panthers. They also stayed at the original odds from early season. Breck was able to successfully navigate injuries and show the leagues exactly why they were original favourites from the start. Next we have the Pats and they have Tom Brady and Musa smith. Also unchanged. Smith is proving his worth in New England. The offense clearly runs though him. Now can Travis get Brady to play at the level we all expect? If so you may see the Pats hoist the Lombardy Trophy this season. The 49ers moved up from the original even odds earlier in the season. TO has proven to be a real hand full for any team to contain. The loss of QB Jeff Garcia has hurt the odds I will say. But they still have a great chance with the newly acquired QB Gus Frerotte.

Chicago Bears -110
Houston Texans -110
Miami Dolphins -110

The Bears have gone from +300 to -110. Having surprised alot of pundits. This team has been able to play complimentary football which has seen success. Aside from a couple bumps in the road the Bears have beaten alot of contenders already once this season. That alone will make it even more difficult to do it again. Just like any other team they do have a chance. Next we have the Texans. Wow, this team fooled the entire league. Coming up from +800 to -110 deserves alot of credit. GM Wade Pearce has done an amazing job this season. Perhaps the best job actually. Do not sleep on these guys as they have already one victory over the Colts. Lastly we have Miami Dolphins. Moving from the original +150 to get to -110 is how GM Darren Roberts built his reputation as one of the better GMs to do it. The Phins still relied heavily on defense but surprisingly they have also shown that they can go blow for blow in a shootout if needed.

Cincinnati Bengals Even
Oakland Raiders Even

The Bengals did a very nice job earning that division win the AFC North. Pushing out the former Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens was no easy task. They could be a dark horse in this playoff run. Can Brady up this team to the next level to compete for a championship? We shall see, one thing for sure is the Bengals are a character organisation with a bright future. The Oakland Raiders fought hard all year a quality division. Having the Chiefs fall from grace was helpful and injurees to the Broncos didn't hurt also. GM Garth Pearce is of high quality so we can't sleep on the Raiders this post season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers +150
NY Giants +150
Philladephia Eagles +150
St. Louis Rams +150

These teams are now eliminated from the Super bowl

New York Jets +200
San Diego Chargers +200
Denver Broncos +200

These teams have been eliminated from the Super Bowl

Atlanta Falcons +300
Kansas City Chiefs +300
New Orleans Saints +300

These teams have been eliminated from the Super Bowl

Cleveland Browns +500
Pittsburgh Steelers +500
Arizona Cardinals +500

These teams have been eliminated from the Super Bowl

Buffalo Bills +800
Detroit Lions +800
Balitmore Ravens +800

These teams have been eliminated from the Super Bowl

Seattle Seahawks +1200
Dallas Cowboys +1200

I think Dallas has a plan. That plan may very well take too long to execute. Getting to 6 wins is going to be a battle in my opinion. Big Ben can help ease the pain. But the just don't have enough to get even a sniff of the post season right now. Maybe next year. The Hawks have a roster that to be honest I have not really studied. I frankly running out of time here and perhaps forgot to include them higher. Or did I!? Update These teams have been eliminated from the Super Bowl. The Dallas Cowboys new odds in Week 16 were +300. Nice work from William Cook to exceed expectations in Big D.

Jacksonville Jaguars +1500
Tennessee Titans +1500

Sorry guys but two teams have to be last here. These teams could prove me wrong as the longest shot in the league to win the championship. The Titans are making more moves then anyone can keep up with. Not even sure what the roster looks like at the moment. The Jags have a compelling enough team that makes me think the is way too low for them. One thing is for sure we are going to find out together! Update Both these teams have been eliminated from the Super Bowl.
