Last week we saw a new position (other than QB and MLB) which was WR won the rookie of the week. Dallas Cowboys #17 WR Craig Bragg and his 2 TD performance undeniably show something special about him as a rookie. How about for week 6? Will we see another new position winning the award? Just for your information, this will become the fourth consecutive week that no QB made the 5-nominee list. So there is quite a chance that the winner for this week would be from another new position. So, without further ado, here are the five nominees for SFL 2005 Week 6 Rookie of the Week!
WR Craig Bragg (DAL) 6 REC 109 YDS 1 TD 0 DROP Lost 16-24 vs. Giants Bragg was drafted with the 9th pick in the second round of the 2005 SFL Draft. The UCLA graduate has got a quite ideal size and stature for a wide receiver at 6'1" 190 lbs. He also has quite good speed and acceleration. After taking the award home last week, Bragg waited no time to return to the nomination again with his performance this week. Although this time they lost to the Giants, his performance still could show that he is a real deal in the Cowboys offense. He even outperformed Andre Johnson who is considered by most people as the most talented WR in Dallas.
MLB Jordan Beck (JAX) 14 TKL 3 TFL 1 FR 1 CTHA Won 24-23 at Steelers Beck was drafted as the 8th overall pick of the 2005 SFL Draft. The California Polytechnic State University graduate has got quite ideal size and stature for an inside linebacker at 6'2" 233 lbs. He also has good athleticism and power. No wonder he made the top 10 pick in the draft. Beck also made the 5 nominee list in week 3 where he took home the award after getting 52% of the votes. This week he returns to the nomination with a better stats he made in week 3. Jaguars now are still undefeated and part of the reason for their 6-0 record is their defense which is anchored by the one and only Jordan Beck.
HB J.J. Arrington (MIA) 16 ATT 116 YDS 1 TD 0 FUM Won 27-24 at Buccaneers Arrington was drafted with the 9th pick in the third round of 2005 SFL Draft. The 5'9" 214 lbs running back out of California University is quite shifty and quick in moving between defenders which makes him a perfect complimentary when spelling for Dolphins starting running back Willis McGahee who is more of a power runner. Their combination worked well this week against the Buccaneers. After defenders were kind of tired stopping powerful McGahee, Arrington took turns to gain big chunks of yardage with long runs. With only 16 touches, Arrington could amassed 116 total yards and one went for 72-yard run touchdown. It was even more impressive as he was a third rounder. Dolphins surely have found a new weapon for their offense in Arrington.
CB Karl Paymah (DET) 3 TKL 1 SCK 1 FF 1 FR 0 CTHA Won 27-24 vs. Panthers Paymah was drafted with the 19th pick in the fourth round of 2005 SFL Draft. The Washington State graduate may not be the fastest or quickest guy on the field but he has quite ideal size for a cornerback at 6'0" 204 lbs. In the Lions depth chart, he may be only the CB3 but that does not stop him from making impactful plays like he did this week. As the nickel corner, he successfully brought down the opposing QB once and created a turnover by forcing a fumble while not allowing any catch made by any WR he went up against. That's really impressive considering he is still a rookie who was drafted in the 4th round. With the lost of Lito Sheppard for several weeks, Paymah should be given the chance to step up to the plate with bigger role as CB2.
TE John Kuhn (MIN) 10 PANCAKES 0 SACKS ALLOWED Won 17-10 at Bears Kuhn was drafted as the 27th overall pick in 2005 SFL Draft. The 6'0" 250 lbs TE was originally a FB in his college days with Shippensburg University. But the Vikings decided to switch him to TE with the intention of utilizing his speed as a mismatch for linebackers in the middle of the field. The plan seems to work so far. Even though Kuhn did not record any catch last week, he impacted the game with his double digit pancake blocks by using his speed and 250 lbs frame to make any defender he was assigned to block laying on the ground on his back.
Those are the five nominees for SFL 2005 Week 6 Rookie of the Week. As usual, the voting will be open for 1x24 hours. So, please participate here by casting your vote before 9:00 PM EST tomorrow. AWARDEE: MLB Jordan Beck (JAX)
Jacksonville Jaguars #53 MLB Jordan Beck has won the SFL 2005 Rookie of the Week Award for his Week 6 performance in a one-point margin win against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The MLB got 59% of the votes from the league members. This marks the first time a rookie winning the award for multiple weeks. Previously, Beck also won the rookie of the week award in week 3. Becoming the anchor in the Jaguars defense, Beck so far has helped the Jaguars to avoid any defeat this season and currently sit at 6-0 record. In week 6, he complied 14 total tackles with 3 tackles for loss thus he deserves to be well recognized. After a bye in week 7, the rookie MLB will continue leading the Jaguars defense to make sure their GM campaign for 9 wins become a reality or who knows maybe even more. Well done, Jason!
