There?s always been a fair amount of mystery behind injuries in Madden leagues? I?ve never personally been a BIG believer that the Injury or the Toughness rating played much factor in whether a player gets hurt or how long that injury happens to end up being. Don?t get me wrong, I do pay attention to those ratings and lightly factor into account how interested I might be in a player based on these 2 ratings (but it?s always been more of something that might sway me between players I view VERY comparable ? a tie breaker if you will).
In this article I simply wanted to focus on the volume of injuries and where they happen? a very high level view: ~ I?m only looking at Regular Season Games! ~
Common: In nearly 3 ? seasons the SFL has recorded just over 350 injuries (351 to be exact)? 220 of which (
63%) fall in 11 of the 57 types of injuries we?ve seen to date.
The BAD: Only 1 of these 11 injuries, that are most common, is the kiss of DEATH? 100% of the time, a ?Broken Elbow? results in the end of a players season. We?ve recorded 13 Broken Elbows (only
4% of our injuries in the 856 games played in the SFL history).
The GOOD: There are 3 injuries that happen a fair amount of the time (nearly
22%)? Sprained Elbow, Bruised Shoulder & Strained Shoulder where you can count on a player ONLY missing up to 3 games (if you?re lucky and this injury happens during a BYE week you?ll hardly know the player was out).
The Unknown: Unfortunately? the lion share of the injuries that happen most commonly in the SFL tend to range WIDELY in length of time away from the field of play. There are 7 injury types that account for nearly
38% of all injuries and can see a player being hit with a Probable to Season ending injury.
