2006 SFL MOCK DRAFT1.1- Detroit Lions- WR Brandon Marshall- UCF
I'm not beating around the bush when everyone knows who it's going to be. Pairing Marshall across from Edwards I think will cause many nightmares for defensive coordinators.
1.2- New Orleans Saints- RT Dbrickashaw Ferguson- Virginia
I went back and fourth with a few players here but in the end Kyle Turley needs to be replaced, giving up 10+ sacks in back to back years is not acceptable especially for a veteran like him and Ferguson is an immediate impact starter who will come right in and move to the right side.
1.3- Denver Broncos- ILB D'Qwell Jackson- Maryland
He's a bit undersized but I really like everything else he brings to the table. Good AWR, decent athletic ability and a top notch tackler who has STR to shed blocks. i think he'd make an excellent addition to that LB core.
1.4- Houston Texans- QB Matt Leinart- USCThere is usually at least 1 QB in every draft and leinart seems to be the man in the 2006 draft class which is perfect for the Texans and a pretty obvious choice here. He lacks ideal arm STR but has pretty good accuracy and already comes pretty aware for a young signal caller, I think this is who the Texans are coveting.
1.5- Baltimore Ravens- RE Darryl Tapp- Virginia TechI'm not sure what the Terrell Suggs at 1.29 pick was all about (reading in the forums about a homer pick?) but I don't think they make the same mistake twice. Tapp is about the same size as Suggs but with good attributes :D , I think he'll be a moster coming of the DL with that SPD/STR combo.
1.6- Tampa Bay Buccaneers- CB Jimmy Williams- Virginia TechI think if Williams has a good skew on his speed he'll be the first CB off the board and top 10 for sure as tall corners are coveted by just about every GM and Bucs are really hurting in the secondary. Williams would be excellent going up against the Joe Horns, Keyshawn Johnsons and Joe jeurovisious' of the madden world.
1.7- Seattle Seahawks- DE Mario Williams- N.C. StateRock likes to take any athletic freak at any position and let him go and that's exactly what you can do with Williams, RE, LE it doesn't matter, 4-3 or 3-4 he can play in any defensive scheme and be a beast for many years. Rock is on the hot seat again so having a pass rusher like Williams can make an immediate impact.
1.8- Indianapolis Colts- ILB Leon Williams- MiamiThe Colts traded RB Edgerrin James who probably thought GM Leo Henry might go ILB here. Williams would replace an aging vet either this year or next. He's big, strong, fast ,agile and a tackling machine so I can see the need for a trade up.
1.9- Carolina Panthers- WR Cory Rodgers- TCUIt appears the Panthers have a #1 WR in Billy McMullen at 6'3" 92 SPD and decent hands but now they need a guy who can take the top off defenses on the opposite side much like Mann was for them in Philly. the 6'2" Rodgers is a blazer and would fit the role perfectly, give your QB's as many weapons as possible.
1.10- Carolina Panthers- CB Marcus Maxey- MiamiThe Panthers nailed a top need with a speed WR at #9 then come back and really get the future started at CB here with Maxey. He not only has the size GM's covet at 6'1" but also a pure athlete with 95 SPD, 93 ACC and 95 JMP. He'll need to work on that AWR and can start slowly as a NCB for a season before taking over next year.
1.11- Minnesota Vikings- RT Marcus McNeill- AuburnAnother athletic freak along the OL for the Vikings, at 6'7" 330+ lbs and excellent blocking skills to boot. They've really been building around QB Culpepper with weapons and now a massive OL. McNeill could start immediately at RT.
1.12- Carolina Panthers- FS Pat Watkins- Florida StateI think the Panthers really look to shore up that secondary and land the huge 6'5" FS Pat Watkins here to go along with Maxey would really solidify the secondary tremendously. Watkins could start right away with his low AWR because I don't think it affects the S position like it does CB.
1.13- Seattle Seahawks- CB Tye Hill- ClemsonAnother athletic freak this time at the corner position where surprisingly Rock has some slower corners in the league, add Hill and he at the very least has an excellent NCB for a year until he's ready to take the reigns.
1.14- New England Patriots- DT Haloti Ngata- OregonThe SB runners up came up just short but still don't really need much at all as the roster is stacked. They're aging at LB but I see an opening at DT, Ngata could slide right in and anchor the DL immediately, he's not a SPD DT but he should have absolutely no problem bowling over the guy in front of him to get to the QB or runner.
1.15- New York Jets- ILB Abdul Hodge- IowaThe Jets are aging fast at the position so Hodge would most likely be a welcome addition to the LB core, He's a nit undersized at the position and doesn't have ideal 3-4 STR but he has all the other intangibles that the Jets covet in SPD/ACC/AWR and TAK.
1.16- Atlanta Falcons- CB Antonio Cromartie- Florida StateI didn't think this would be a huge year for corners in the 1st round since it wasn't considered a deep class at the position but so many GM's rely on top notch corner play and if anyone could use another corner to play alongside hawkins that's the falcons who surprisingly did quite well this season without having what I consider an elite player at the position, he now would have 2.
1.17- San Francisco 49ers- OLB A.J. Hawk- Ohio StateDerek Smith is an aging ILB who could be replaced but I'm not sure how the 49ers GM feels about a 5'11" player at the position so I'll go with hawk here, move him over to LOLB and you have a pass rushing specialist for many years in A.J.
1.18- Denver Broncos- SS Roman Harper- AlabamaThis is a good S draft class and Roman Harper looks like he'll be one of those elite guys at his position for many years, he has size, SPD, AWR. he can contest JMP balls and TAK very well, what's not to like?
1.19- Miami Dolphins- OLB Thomas Howard- UTEP I think Daren would like to continue to build on that defense, the secondary is revamped with picks and a few vets, ILB looks real good, now an outside rusher and someone who can hang with TE's and RB's as best as possible and Howard looks very athletic, strong with good size but will like many rookies have to work on his football AWR and TAK at the pro level.
1.20- Chicago Bears- OT Quinn Ojinnaka- SyracuseThe bears don't have many holes at all, in fact the roster looks pretty stacked and I hate to say that but there seems to be a bit of a problem on the right side of OL, both his RT's have struggled. I'm not sure how rookie RT fair but I think he could come in right away and be better than the guys he has starting now.
1.21- Minnesota Vikings- OLB Jamar Williams- Arizona StateDerrick Brooks wont play forever and they find a quality replacement for him in Williams who is an athletic freak of nature. He isn't the ideal size, his STR is low and will have to work on TAK but you can't teach pure SPD.
1.22- Cleveland Browns- WR Maurice Stovall- Notre DameI went with the athlete with a big frame because that seems to be the theme that Tom Collins covets in a WR. he's a huge target at 6'5 220 lbs. with solid athletic ability and gives the Browns even more weapons for Bledsoe.
1.23- Arizona Cardinals- OG Max Jean-Gilles- GeorgiaThe Cardinals need to continue to build that OL in front of Palmer. Gilles to me is the best interior OL in the draft. He's a mountain at 6'4" 340 lbs, strong as an ox at 96 STR and has the agility and burst to pull when blocking on the edges, Carson Palmer approves of this pick.
1.24- Jacksonville Jaguars- OLB Manny Lawson- N.C. StateLawson is a huge LB with a great first step who has no problem bursting to get to the RB or sacking the QB. He can also hang with TE's with his size and athleticism.
1.25- Carolina Panthers- RG Davin Joseph- OklahomaThe Panthers would be having a heck of a draft at this point and now they can start to replace the aging vets for the future of the Panthers and Joseph looks like an excellent candidate to someday take the reigns in the not so distant future from Jon Jansen.
1.26- Cleveland Browns- DT Brodrick Bunkley- I believe I read this right on discord that the Browns traded a future 1st for this pick. If so I'm going Bunkley here as GM TC has been offering Corey Simon up and Bunkley looks like a fine replacement for him. He's not a run stuffer like Ngata he's more the agile type to sack the QB much like Simon was but he has the STR also.
1.27- New York Giants- CB Richard Marshall- Fresno StateI think the Giants have to be thinking about CB here, they seem to have some older CB's so adding a corner with SPD and youth to that secondary should be appealing to GM Mendez. I think marshall will skew upwards in all the important attributes and looks to be a solid late rounder.
1.28- Indianapolis Colts- TE Vernon Davis- MarylandThe Colts and Peyton manning have always had a plethora of TE's to work with. Why not give him a complete mismatch at the position? I think he would give the rest of the AFC South nightmares trying to scheme him.
1.29- Arizona Cardinals- WR Santonio Holmes- Ohio StateHe isn't the ideal height that the Cards covet at all so this is probably a long shot but I'd say WR in general would be the pick here. I feel like Holmes will skew upwards in private workouts . at 5'11" he has excellent STR, SPD, ACC, CTH and JMP and would make an awesome slot WR at least in year 1 while Mohamed and Carter work the outside.
1.30- Cincinnati Bengals- FS Nate Salley- Ohio StateThe bengals have a solid all around roster so they could just look to replace older vets for the future but Salley looks like he could start right away as he has the size, TAK, AWR and athleticism to be an immediate starter.
1.31- New England Patriots- CB Tramon Williams- L.A. TechWith a bunch of aging stars at the position, Tramon Williams could come in a start as the NCB learning from one of the best ever in Ty Law, his AWR shouldn't be a problem in NE as they should be in the hunt for playoffs every season with that roster. Williams is the same height as Law and his physical attributes are pretty darn good.
1.32- Houston Texans- CB Devin Hester- MiamiWe close out the first round with the talented CB/KR Devin hester who I think the SPD/ACC will skew up imo, if not he's still a solid player who can start at NCB, with 45 AWR I don't think I throw him on the outside right away. He'll also double down as a legit threat to take it to the house on every kick return.
