The first round of free agency has ended and in addition to the multiple team trades the changing landscape of the next SFL season continues. If you?re like me there have been so many trades it's hard to keep up. So if it can be some help, here is a list of teams with new linebackers.
MLB Jamie Sharper and MLB Bryan Knight to the Pittsburgh Steelers
Another duo of free agent signings MLB Jamie Sharper and MLB Bryan Knight join the Pittsburgh roster. 32 year old Jamie Sharper joins the Steelers, previously from the Denver Broncos. The veteran led the league in tackles last year. And MLB Bryan Knight, previously from the Chicago Bears should add depth to the position.
MLB James Farrior and OLB Lorenzo Alexander to the New York Jets
The Jets say goodbye to Ronald McKinnon and hello to MLB James Farrior. Previously from the Steelers, the free agent signed a contract with the New York Jets this offseason. And OLB Lorenzo Alexander was traded from the Philadelphia Eagles to the Jets. Alexander has some big potential, but a long way to go in Awareness.
OLB Jamir Miller and OLB Mike Peterson to the Philadelphia Eagles
LB Jamir Miller joins the Eagles from a trade with the New York Jets. The 33 year old veteran will help to add experience at the position. LB Mike Peterson was signed in Free Agency. The Ex-Packer joins the Eagles roster after ending his contract on, arguably, his worst season in Green Bay.
MLB Courtney Watson and OLB Pisa Tinoisamoa to the Carolina Panthers
More familiar names follow GM Leo Henry. Courtney Watson rejoins his previous GM after a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles to the Panthers. And in a familiar opponent, LB Pisa Tinoisamoa joins the Panthers from ex-divisional rival the Dallas Cowboys. Both young talent should help the new roster in Carolina.
MLB Nick Barnett and OLB Takeo Spikes to the Miami Dolphins
MLB Nick Barnett joins the Miami Dolphins in a great trade with the Carolina Panthers. Barnett has been among the great MLBs in the league in previous seasons and should fill in for Terry Price who was traded to the Washington Redskins this offseason. In another big trage OLB Takeo Spikes was traded from the Cincinnati Bengals to the Dolphins. The veteran LB had a career year last season with 17 deflections.
MLB Terry Pierce to the Washington Redskins
MLB Terry Pierce joins the Redskins after a trade with the Miami Dolphins. Currently loaded at MLB, it appears as if Pierce is the top player at the rostered position. There is an opportunity for Pierce who recorde 112 tackles last year.
MLB Andra Davis to the Green Bay Packers
Previously from the St. Louis Rams, MLB Andra Davis inked a new contract with the Green Bay Packers. A position with big shoes to fill after Dan Morgan departed this offseason.
MLB Dan Morgan to the New Orlean Saints
MLB Dan Morgan joins the Saints after a trade from the Green Bay Packers to New Orleans. The 5 year pro should offer an experienced defender who recorded 19 deflections last season.
OLB Peter Boulware and MLB Brian Urlacher to the Dallas
The Dallas Cowboys must have liked the linebackers on the Titans. After getting both LBs this offseason, Urlacher by Trade, Boulware by free agency. The Cowboys are looking to move past MLB Kendrell Bell.
OLB Shawne Merriman and OLB Sedrick Hodge to the Tennessee Titans
After a single season Merriman is in a new uniform. After a single season with the Arizona Cardinals the sophomore player was traded to the Tennessee Titans. OLB Sedrick Hodge joins his 3rd team in 3 years. After time in both New Orleans and Carolina, Hodge joins a Titans roster which had Peter Boulware the previous season.
OLB Akin Ayodele to the New England Patriots
OLB Akin Ayodele, previously from the Jacksonville Jaguars, was signed to a contract with the New England Patriots this offseason. The 4-Year pro will play a backup role to Mike Vrabel.
OLB Danny Clark to the Houston Texans
LB Danny Clark joins the Texans from the Chicago Bears. We expect Clark to be a backup player.
OLB Hannibal Navies to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
LB Hannibal Navies joins the Tampa Bay Bucs from the Chicago Bears. Some opportunity for the 7 year pro who recorded 8 deflections last season, but will have to step up after playing a backup role the previous 2 seasons before 2005.
