2007 SFL Mock Draft-Full First Round
By Neal Wintermute

1- WR-Calvin Johnson- Bucs

He?s the consensus first overall pick as he possesses both the size and speed to dominate this league for years to come. I?m sure Bill has fielded several offers here but if he sticks with Johnson he will not be disappointed.

2- OT-Joe Thomas- Dolphins

Thomas is a complete stud and the Dolphins have been playing around with the RT position for too long. This is also an obvious pick for them. Thomas has the talent to play right away and not suffer as a rookie.

3- CB-Corey Graham- Chargers

The best CB in the draft is Corey Graham assuming he doesn?t skew down. We?ve not actually seen a CB with his speed, size, and awareness in any SFL draft to date. I think the Chargers would love to let another team pick here, but Graham would really help them out a lot.

4- WR-Dwayne Jarrett- Ravens

The Ravens can grab a stud WR to pair with Mike Williams by taking Duane Jarrett here at #4. I know they have draft gem Reggie Brown at their current #2 but there?s just too much of an upgrade here to resist taking Jarrett. He?s not Calvin Johnson, but he?s really, really good.

5- OT-James Marten- Bears

This is where I think the draft could get interesting. I think the Bears could find real value by trading out of this spot as they aren?t a team with a ton of needs other than on the offensive line and they could trade down and get a good offensive linemen. For sake of the mock draft though, I have them taking James Martin, who is a great athlete.

6- DE-Jay Moore- Steelers

The best DE is a great DE class comes off the board at #6 to the Steelers. Jay Moore is big, strong, and fast. He?s currently at RE but he could easily be moved to the LE position where I think he could dominate.

7- QB-Brady Quinn? Packers

It seems like the entire league is infatuated with Brady Quinn with virtually every GM thinking there?s no way he makes it here to 7. But I honestly don?t think quite that highly of him or of drafting a QB this high. The Packers do seem like a possible landing spot though again I think Delhomme is more than adequate. But maybe they want more than adequate.

8- CB-Aaron Ross? Cardinals

Next up is Aaron Ross. Great awareness and size and he?s got above average athleticism as well. The Cardinals traded away Joey Thomas because I don?t know why but Ross could be a nice replacement for him.

9- SS-Sabby Piscitelli? Steelers

The Steelers are in full rebuilding mode and Piscitelli could help immediately. Even if he skews down in speed he will still be fast and he?s 6?3?. The Steelers could really build something special on the defensive side of the ball in this draft.

10- DE-Lamar Woodley- Cowboys

The Cowboys are in a tough spot at LE. They?ve got Michael Strahan there signed to a long-term deal but who is regressing like the real life Carson Wentz. If they want to win now some help at DE would be good. Lamar Woodley can provide that. He?s part of three or four plug and play DE?s in this draft and he could play LE while they move Strahan over the right side.

11- HB?Marshawn Lynch- Panthers

The Panthers want a QB and a RB. I have no idea what they are doing and Leo does a great job of stirring up conversation around the team. Marshawn Lynch is a stud RB and Leo drafted Steven Jackson back in Philly so I can see Lynch here quite easily.

12- RT-Joe Staley- 49ers

Kyle Orton?s progression is quite impressive in San Francisco. He?s going to be really good and soon. But right now Scott Gragg is their answer at RT and that?s not nearly a good enough answer. I think Joe Staley, who has great blocking skills already, is the type of player they like.

13- DE-Gaines Adams- Vikings

Adams is another one of the great DE?s in this draft. He?s a great talent, but since I?m the Vikings GM I don?t intend to tell people who I plan on picking here and I?ve already stated that I am interested in trading back, so basically Adams is a placeholder for a team who wants him.

14- CB-Dante Hughes- Falcons

Dante Hughes is the second fastest CB is this draft. I think it's clear Nic wants to improve his secondary. The only question for me is, "Is Hughes tall enough for Nic to draft him this high?"

15- DE-Adam Carriker- Dolphins

I?m fairly confident the Dolphins want a DE in this draft. Carriker is the last of the four studs in this class so I think he goes here at 15. I?m sure Daren would love a shot at one of the other three but Carriker is a great DE in his own right.

16- HB-Adrian Peterson- Colts

The Colts go with another potential great RB at 16 in Adrian Peterson. His attributes may not be what you would expect from his name but he is still good to be a workhorse in this league. The Colts could also go WR here.

17- SS-Aaron Rouse- Cowboys

The Cowboys need safeties. I have them drafting two in this class with the first of those two being Aaron Rouse. He?s another tall safety but lacks the speed of Piscitelli. If Piscitelli were to fall to 10, I?m confident they would grab him and alter their selection here.

18- HB-Michael Bush - Dolphins

The Dolphins also would love to add a legit RB in this class and there are many of those. And I think Michael Bush is going to be one of them. His a big back but with STR and decent speed. Not sure what the skew looks like, but he could be really good.

19- WR-Robert Meachem- Dolphins

The Dolphins want Calvin Johnson but they end up instead with Meachem, who while very raw, is unquestionably going to cause matchup nightmares in this league. Think of the 6?2? version of Brandon Marshall.

20- LT-Clint Oldenburg- Bears

The Bears can grab another good OL with Oldenburg here at 20. I think the Bears have good young talent at most spots but as I said with their first pick, they just need some help at offensive line.

21- WR-Jacoby Jones- Cardinals

Jones is a typical Cardinals WR. Great speed and height with very raw attributes. If they were willing to grab Drew Carter at #4 three years ago, I see no reason they couldn?t take Jones here at 21. Though the Bills below them would love for them to go another direction.

22- WR-Laurent Robinson- Bills

Robinson reminds me a bit of Demetrius Williams who the Colts took in the 2nd round last season only Robinson has one more speed and acceleration than Williams. If Jacoby Jones were to fall one more spot, then he?s clearly the pick here but if not I think the Bills address their WR need with Robinson.

23- ROLB-Paul Posluszny- Rams

The Rams may be trying to resign Dexter Coakley, I can?t be for sure, but if they don?t then Posluszny makes a lot of sense. He?s got great AWR already which I think the Rams like plus he can tackle.

24- OLB-Jon Beason- Titans

The Titans have several holes, but I think they need to upgrade their LOLB. Beason is available but his AWR is horrible but his speed and athleticism is too tempting to pass up. I think he could be a good pass rusher on that left side.

25- RT-Tony Ugoh- Patriots

Like the Dolphins, the Patriots appear to be looking for an upgrade at RT. There are few good ones left and I think Ugoh is the best of the bunch. I?d feel a little more confident if his blocking skills were better, but I?m still going with him anyway.

26- WR-Sidney Rice- Falcons

Elite speed and height are attractive features for a WR. Jones possesses both along with a hideously low AGI that will probably skew up. Again, I think Nic knows how to handle these players.

27- ROLB- Johnny Baldwin? Jets

The Jets would love to snag a WR if one were to drop to here, but since I don?t have them doing so, I think they go with Johnny Baldwin to fill their ROLB spot. The Jets have elite talent at most positions but ROLB is not one of them.

28- LT-Jacob Bender-Seahawks

The Seahawks are no longer on the hot seat not that it appeared to both Rock any. Having said that, they need a LT and Bender fits the athletic profile Rock likes along the offensive line.

29- CB-David Irons- Chiefs

The Chiefs struck gold with Carlos Rodgers late in round one. I think they go CB again and draft David Irons, whose speed is borderline but agility and acceleration are pretty good even with lower catch.

30- QB-Kevin Kolb- Jets

The Jets can either select Kolb or Stanback here but I think Kolk might be a touch better right now. At this late point in round 1, I think a QB is good value and the Jets can have him sit behind Plummer for a few seasons.

31- ROLB-Anthony Waters- Raiders

Anthony Waters will be an elite OLB in this league with his speed/strength/acceleration combo. He just needs time to work on AWR and TAK. The Raiders get a good starter here at pick 31.

32- FS-Laron Landry- Cowboys

The Cowboys grab their second safety in round 1 with Laron Landry. He?s a really good FS with good speed and overall attributes. 69 AWR allows him to start his rookie season with less big mistakes in the secondary.
