1- WR-Calvin Johnson
A true bonafide star who will improve any offense he goes to. 6-5, minimum speed of 95, there is no question that Calvin is the first player off the board.
2- OT-Joe ThomasI've said all along I will draft either CJ or the legend that is Joe "The Island" Thomas. If Thomas is sat there, I'm a very happy camper. However, if Joe goes #1, I may trade out of this spot.
3- CB-Corey GrahamThe best CB in the draft - great speed, size, awareness and overall athletic traits. However, it wouldnt surprise me to see
Sabby Piscitelli go here as the Chargers do have a gap at safety.
4- WR-Duane JarrettJarrett is not far off Calvin Johnson and should be a lock as a top 5 pick. I could see an upgrade over Demps with Piscitelli but go with the safe pick here.
5- SS-Sabby PiscitelliLike Neal and Tyler, I'm more guessing than anything here. I can see the sense in picking up
James Marten and my gut feel is that all these teams picking 3-5 would like to trade down if possible. Sabby is the best player for me here and upgrades the secondary immediately. 6-3, fast and with decent awareness, catch and tackle.
6- DE-Gaines AdamsThe Steelers could do with an upgrade at CB or DE. Johnstone is 34 and Spicer is decent enough but there is some talent at the position. I've gone Adams as the more complete, all round prospect - he has better TAK than Jay Moore but still has a 6-5 frame, which I believe is a plus, and excellent athleltic traits. I could see Moore being the pick though - there isn't much between them.
7- OT-James MartenThere is a consensus that Green Bay will go Quinn but I'm not so sure. Delhomme has 1, maybe 2 years left. Green Bay is not in win now mode but they would effectively need to commit to Quinn and would that mean shopping Delhomme? Drafting Marten replaces the cut Tauscher and brings a guy in who can shift over to the right side in a few seasons.
8-CB-Aaron RossNow an interesting scenario plays out if Quinn is still here. Tyler loves to leverage value, and either trading the rights to Quinn - or Carson Palmer - are options. Tyler likes a rebuild, so I could see him drafting Quinn and netting a haul for Palmer. However, realistically - they have a gap in the secondary, an heir to Sam Madison. Ross has great size, is polished for a rookie and will make a very decent NCB for now.
9-WR-Jacoby JonesTo help Vince Young and to pair alongside draft gem Dunbar, the talent drops off a little after Johnson and Jarrett. However, Jones in 6-4, 95 speed and if you believe that CTH isnt that important, he may be the next best prospect.
Robert Meachem, James Jones or Laurent Robinson may also be considerations.
10-OT Mike OttoThe Cowboys have holes at Safety, Linebacker and Left Tackle. I dont think Will takes a LB this early, so I'm going to go with the next best tackle - and he's a good one - in Mike Otto. He will solidify the line and help keep Warner upright - and hopefully keep Will his GM-ship. My other consideration here was
LaRon Landry.
11-QB Brady QuinnThe Panthers need a QB. Gradkowski may have something but Quinn will come in with more AWR from Day 1. I could see Leo taking Lynch here but Jones is more than decent, averaging over 4ypc in his career.
12-DE Jay MooreI could see the 49ers going SS here, or OT. However, I'm going to go DE given the talent that there is on the board and Jay Moore. Incumbent LE Berry is getting on and not really that good. Moore at 6-4, 280lbs and with fantastic speed, strength and athletic ability, will make an impact as a rookie Sure his TAK is awful but he just needs to fall on QBs.
13-SS Laron LandryThe Vikings have been shopping both incumbent DEs, which may lead a little on the thinking. However, the best 2 DEs have been drafted. Number 3 on my board is
Lamar Woodley but, to buck the trend, I'm going with Landry. Chavous is 31 and Landry is a quicker, faster version of Taylor.
14-CB David IronsThe Falcons have been shopping Patrick Kerney and may jump on a DE like
Lamar Woodley here. However, its in the secondary they are thinnest and Irons combines potential with half decent awareness to be able to contribute as a rookie.
Fred Bennett is another guy, depending on how is workout goes, that may be a consideration here with 77 pre-PW AWR and a 6-1 frame.
15- HB Marshawn LynchTipping my hand here but there we go. If Lynch somehow falls to 15, we would take him. He has some great attributes and despite the running back class as a whole not having the BTK or CAR you want (BTK may skew up by the +/- 5) the other attributes are very nice indeed.
16-OLB Zak DeOssieThe first LB off the board and despite mediocre TAK, he has size, speed, very good AWR for a rookie, and immediately upgrades one of the starting OLB spots. I could see an argument for picking up
Adrian Peterson here too but I don't feel Riggs Jr. is actually a bad player and some work on his ACC makes him a pretty nice player. I also feel, given the Colts' penchant for passing, spending a 1st on a HB is not a shrewd investment. They have few holes and OLB is one.
17-DE Lamar WoodleyI wanted to go safety here -
Aaron Rouse is tall but not as athletic as you like and a poor skew would kill him. Of the other safeties, I like
Eric Frampton and Tra Battle - the latter will have 70+ AWR so wont be a liability straight away. Strahan is 36 and Harylson is not a viable option on the other side. Got to start in the trenches and the 'boys address both lines with nice picks.
18- DE Adam CarrikerTipping my hand here again. I will have picked up at least 1 DE in free agency but the top 4 are standout talents. Carriker has the frame I like and despite sub-standard strength, should still be a force off the edge.
19- CB Leon HallHall is as polished as you can get. Sure, he is not as fast or athletic as say
Dante Hughes but he is very solid across the board, not raw, and has great TAK and CTH for a rookie.
20-LT Joe StaleyAfter picking up a great safety prospect, the Bears address the offensive line and take Staley. The only knocks on him are his weight at 299lbs and low AWR but apart from that, he's a very nice prospect, with 91 PBK pre-PW. I can see arguments for
Clint Oldenburg or Tony Ugoh also.
