2007 Post Draft Free Agency

Thus far, I have not placed a big on a free agent during this round of free agency, Post Draft Free Agency. This is the stage where we do not have to be concerned with ?Top Three Bidding? as in this round; it is pretty simple; the highest bidder wins the services of that particular free agent. I thought I would at this time review the top (according to me) players at each position. I have not taken the higher salaries of veterans or lower salaries of younger guys into consideration. This is solely based on who I would perhaps take based on their expected abilities. So here we go:
*Edit: I ran out of energy once I hit the defensive players so I decided to do only 2 defensive players at each position.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

QB | At this point in time there is no starting caliber QB?s. I also do not think there are any true prospects either. It is my opinion the available players are best suited to be teams third option at QB. In other words these players are better options than punters who are normally the QB3 by default.

1.) Stefan LeFors | OVR 78 | Acquired: 7.13 draft pick of the Phi Eagles in the 2005 SFL draft
The reason I chose LeFors as the #1 potential free agent QB is due to his 92 THA. His THP is respectful at 78 but his AWR is very concerning at 56. We introduced a wildcard this season for scramblers which LeFors is which is brining CAR, INJ & TGH to 95 if the players current rating is below this number. So, if it were me I would not mind taking a flyer on LeFors as a QB3 and would go ahead and take the scrambling QB buff to CAR, INJ & TGH. Lefors is also only 26 years old which will be attractive to some GM?s.

2.) Tony Romo | OVR 76 | Acquired: 7.20 draft pick of the Bucs in the 2005 SFL draft
Okay, this pick might be a stretch however I think if nothing else you could have a player who will go down as the worst overall early round draft pick in SFL history. For those of not familiar with Tony Romo?s history our late dear friend Paul Criswell drafted Romo in the first round by basically his name recognition. It is not that Romo lacked certain attributes which could be improved and become a better player it is that fact that he was a low AWR scrambler meaning it would take him quite a bit longer (if ever) in our particular Madden universe to become relevant. Even with all that being said, Romo, at just 27 years old, in my opinion would make a fine QB3. I would go ahead and use the scrambler buffs on him too so he would get an increase to CAR, INJ & TGH.

3.) Kordell Stewart | OVR 81 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
This pick is a much more usual pick for a backup QB. I have had Stewart in the past, during the 2005 SFL season so I obviously think he is a fine option at QB3. Some might even attempt to argue that Stewart would even be an option at QB2. For me though, while he has decent backup QB AWR of 73 and THP of 89, his THA of 82 is a bit too low for a long term QB2.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RB | RB is a bit different than QB as there are, again in my opinion some players who could be play makers and game changers.

1.) Eddie George | OVR 99 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
George may have lost a couple steps as his SPD is now at 83, AGI is 81 and ACC is 86 but his STR is still 84, AWR is still 99, CAR is still 92 and his can still run defenders over with his 99 BTK. Personally, I love his 98 IMP rating too. I still think George has what it takes to notch a 1000 yard and 8-10 TD season.

2.) Curtis Martin | OVR 99 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
Martin would be my choice here for many of the same reasons as I chose Eddie George above. Martin boats 86 SPD, 75 STR, 93 AWR, 90 CAR and 98 BTK. His ACC is still a manageable 87 which also helps. I believe he too could at least flirt with a 1000 yard season and 6-8 TD?s if given the chance.

3.) Onterio Smith | OVR 75 | Acquired: 5.15 draft pick of the Ten Titans in the 2003 SFL draft
Smith may be a surprise pick here as I move away from the veteran sure bets of George and Martin. I am chosing Smith due to his good SPD of 91, nice STR of 73, great AGI of 94 & ideal ACC of 94. I think his CAR of 77 and BTK of 72 will be fine for a low end RB2 or high end RB3. I think Smith could also be a pretty decent KR a well.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FB | I am not going to spend a lot of time on FB?s. We all know what FB?s do and what their roles are. To be honest I am not sure if there?s a FB I would have as even a FB2 but here are my top choices.

1.) Jon Ritchie | OVR 97 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
Ritchie?s prime years are behind him but I chose him as #1 due to his RBK of 75 which is a low end OL number and his nice 55 PBK.

2.) Jim Kleinsasser | OVR 89 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
Kleinsasser has great weight at 272 # which might allow for him to get in front of opposing defensive players better than most FB?s. (just a thought). He does not have the 70 RBK that Ritchie as he has 67 in that area but has better PBK with 60.

3.) Deon Anderson | OVR 60 | Acquired: Undrafted free agent from the 2007 draft
Anderson is not a conventional pick here but he is a rookie who will have his attributes improve. Furthermore, he may not be the fastest or most athletic but he has solid number across the board. He has 75 SPD, 78 STR, 74 AGI, 76 ACC & 75 CAR. He could be a serviceable FB2 and provide depth on special teams.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TE | Similiarlly to FB I do not believe there to be many (if any) attractive TE options at this stage of the preseason. Here?s the ones I could chose if I had to make that decision.

1.) Visanthe Shiancoe | OVR 66 | Acquired: 4.9 draft pick of the Jac Jaguars in the 2003 SFL draft
Shiancoe has a low OVR but he had adequate athletic ability with 79 SPD, 78 AGI, 81 ACC, 70 CTH and 80 JMP. He is for sure a receiving TE because his RBK is only 52 and his PBK is just 48. I think he could be used as a TE2 though especially in the popular Denver Broncos offensive playbook.

2.) Kyle Brady | OVR 92 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
Brady is a big boy at 6?6? and 278 #. I think this 35 year veteran can still be useful in certain situations perhaps especially offensively in the red zone. While he is slow at 66 SPD he is still STR at 77, smart with 88 AWR and has great CTH with 85.

3.) Fred McCrary | OVR 90 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
McCrary does not have Brady?s size (I believe he is a converted FB to be honest) but he is smart with 89 AWR and that is why he made my list. His RBK is the second highest behind Brady and his also has good PBK with 59. I think his blocking stats added to his 89 AWR make him an option as a blocking TE at TE2.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WR | I think there are three guys who would produce at a high level as a starting WR even if they are near retirement and are way past their primes. Those players are as follows:

1.) Mushin Muhammad | OVR 94 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
Muhammd is a tall, 6?2? smart, aging 34 year old WR with 95 AWR who can still play and be impactful. He has 87 SPD, 76 STR, 88 ACC, 98 CTH and 93 JMP. He also has 85 IMP which I think only helps. I believe Muhammad can still produce as a WR1. I think his high STR could really be a deciding factor in a team?s run game. He may not be a WR2 speedster some offenses are looking for but I will take his attributes all day long.

2.) Keyshawn Johnson | OVR 92 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
Johnson is at the end of his career as he is 35 years old but time can not take away his 6?4? frame. He is not fast with 83 SPD but he has 97 AWR, 98 CTH and 93 JMP and you can not teach that. I wish I could grab either one of these top two free agent WR?s Muhammad or Johnson.

3.) Derrick Mason | OVR 93 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
Mason is still an amazing athletic even at 33 years old. He has 93 SPD, 92 AWR, 92 ACC, 94 CTH and 93 JMP. Mason does not have the size Muhammad and Johnson have with being 5?10? but he can still play at a pro bowl level and will be a true asset for some team between now and the time he retires.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OT | There are for certain starters in this group!

1.) Tony Boselli | OVR 99 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
Boselli may be 35 years old but he is still 6?7? and 324 #. He is also a beast of an OL. He had 91 STR, 99 AWR, 62 AGI, 68 ACC and oh yeah 97 PBK and 97 RBK. He can start anywhere on the OL.

2.) Mark Tauscher | OVR 89 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
Tauscher should be starting on some GM?s OL. The single restriction he had before free agency was his huge contract but that is no longer a concern. Tauscher is only 30 years old and has 90 STR, 87 AWR, 64 AGI, 69 ACC plus 92 PBK and 90 RBK. Someone should be signing him soon.

3.) Marc Colombo | OVR 84 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
Cololmbo was the Chicago Bears match eligible player. I feel like he can still play at a high level due to his 94 STR, 72 AWR, 63 AGI, 68 ACC , 90 RBK and 90 PBK. On top of that he is only 29 years old.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OG | My choices below may not be shared by many as the following players are on the slow side but I think they can be assets to teams.

1.) Willie Roaf | OVR 99 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
Yes, he is old, very old at 37 but he helped the Redskins win a championship in 2006. He has 99 AWR, 61 ACC, 99 RBK, 99 PBK and 87 IMP.

2.) Will Shields | OVR 99 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
Tauscher should be starting on some GM?s OL. The single restriction he had before free agency was his huge contract but that is no longer a concern. Tauscher is only 30 years old and has 90 STR, 87 AWR, 64 AGI, 69 ACC plus 92 PBK and 90 RBK. Someone should be signing him soon.

3.) Edwin Mulitalo | OVR 88 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
Mulitalo has never been flashy or fast as he has just 47 SPD but he has always gotten the job done when called upon. He still has 94 STR, 88 AWR, 85 PBK and 93 RBK.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

C | There are a couple great choices here. There are some stars at the center position on that remain.

1.) Ryan Pontbriand | OVR 89 | Acquired: 2.2 pick by the Det Lions in the 2003 SFL draft.
Pontbriand can be a pro bowl center. He has great SPD with 66, amazing STR with 96, great AGI with 72, superb AC with 70, 86 PBK and 94 RBK. This guy is going to get it down especially if he is signed by a GM who has a veteran QB and RB.

2.) Tom Nalen | OVR 97 | Acquired: Let me put it this way: Tom Nalen?s hair is not really hair, it is strands of gold given to him by none other than angels from heaven.
The GOAT. What else is there to say?

3.) John Wade | 86 OVR | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
Wade is fast and athletic with 62 SPD, 66 AGI and 71 ACC. He is also smart with 79 AWR and can block with 88 RBK and 99 PBK.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

K | I am only going to mention 1 kicker and punter.

1.) Matt Prater | OVR 79 | Acquired: undrafted free agent from the 2006 SFL draft
I like Prater?s 91 KPW. He is not too far away from being able to start with his 86 KAC. He could perhaps be ready to start after a training camp and/or a preseason.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

P | I am only going to mention 1 kicker and punter.

1.) Earl Tubbs | OVR 81 | Acquired: undrafted free agent from the 2003 SFL draft
Tubbs has 90 KPW and 88 KAC. While most GM?s have their punters, Tubbs could be lining up for some team soon especially since he is only 24 years old.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LE | This is a position where it looks like the most of what is left are not game changers and at best, high quality backups.

1.) Reggie Torber | OVR 82 | Acquired: 7.13 pick by the Sea Seahawks in the 2004 SFL draft
Torber has a decent combo of STR and SPD with 78 & 73 plus average AGI and ACC (77 & 79). He could be a decent backup and/or spot starter in my opinion.

2.) Kenny Holmes | OVR 85 | acquired: member of the original SFL roster
Holmes is a great veteran backup. The 34 year old has decent SPD with 79 and good ACC with 82 plus pretty good AWR with 76.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RE | There are several high OVR RE veterans who could all start or be great backups. Here are my choices.

1.) Brett Keisel | OVR 88 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
Keisel is a big 6?5?, 285 # RE who is less than 30 years old (29). He has good STR with 84, is smart with 85 AWR somewhat AI with 74 and okay ACC with 77. A GM would be in decent shape with Keisel on their team.

2.) Jarrett Johnson | OVR 82 | Acquired: 7.27 draft pick by the GB Packers in the 2003 SFL draft.
Johnson is also a big guy at 6?3? and 286 # but is more of an athletic than Keiser with 79 SPD, 72 STR, 73 AGI and 82 ACC.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DT | I think the first player below can continue being a DT1 starter for a lot of teams.

1.) William Joseph | OVR 88 | Acquired: 4.10 draft pick by the Sea Seahawks in the 2003 SFL draft
Joseph has proved to be a useful starter for the Seahawks. He has 99 STR, 75 AWR, 64 AGI, 70 ACC and 82 TAK.

2.) Justin Harrell | OVR 73 | Acquired: undrafted free agent from the 2007 SFL draft
This could very well be a surprise choice here but I think this rookie could be a great depth choice at DT for just about any team. Remember his stats will continue to improve with rookie and sophomore progression. He currently has 62 SPD, 89 STR, 65 AWR, 66 AGI, 63 ACC and 70 TAK. These may not be superstar attributes but make for what could be an attractive DT3 player.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOLB | I think there are at least a couple starters currently sitting in the LOLB free agent pool.

1.) Kevin Harny | 97 OVR | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster

2.) John Mobley | 87 OVR | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
Mobley was a very productive member of the 2006 New England Patriots by making 60 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 5 sacks plus a forced fumble and fumble recovery. He may not be the fastest at 76 SPD but has 90 AWR, 80 ACC and 90 TAK.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ROLB | There are definitely some starting quality ROLB left in free agency. I have listed three below.

1.) Dexter Coakley | OVR 99 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
Coakley is at the end of his career but still has 85 SPD, 97 AWR, 84 AGI, 85 ACC, 96 TAK and 92 IMP. Again, he may be old and even undersized at 5?10? but he can still play.

2.) Antwan Peek | OVR 86 | Acquired: 4.8 draft pick by the Min Vikings in the 2003 SFL draft
Peek is much young than Coakley at just 27 and has provided the Vikings with solid play since being drafted. He has 80 SPD, 86 STR, 78 AWR, 77 AGI, 83 ACC and 85 TAK. This guy can get it done.

3.) Shawn Barber | OVR 86 | Acquired: member if the original SFL roster
Barber is directly in the middle age wise of Coakley and Peek at 32 years. He can also still get it done though as he has 82 SPD, 84 AWR, 83 ACC and 85 TAK.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MLB | There is not the number of quality players left at MLB as there is at OLB but I will still go ahead and list three of them.

1.) Shelton Quarles | OVR 95 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
Quarles is aging and could be entering his finals season at 36 but he is still 80 SPD, 95 AWR, 78 ACC and 99 TAK.

2.) Dat Nguyen | OVR 70 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
Nguyen is not a star but he could provide depth at MLB3 maybe even MLB2. He has 82 SPD and 80 ACC and speed is the name of the game.

3.) Gary Brackett | OVR 95 | Acquired: member of the original roster
Brackett is slow at 71 SPD but he is smart with 99 AWR. At times that AWR proves to be the most important factor.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CB | No doubt there are some quality CB?s left. These guys might be CB1, CB2, NCB or even DCB but they can still play.

1.) Donnie Abraham | OVR 95 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
This guy has 29 career interceptions so he can play. Even at the ripe age of 34 he has 89 SPD, 99 AWR, 88 AGI, 88 ACC, 83 CTH and 84 IMP.
2.) Sammy Davis | OVR 82 | Acquired: 3.18 draft pick of the Min Vikings in the 2003 SFL draft
Davis has 90?s in all the main CB areas, SPD (90), AGi (92), ACC (92) & even JMP (90). This guy should probably get more attention than he has received thus far.

3.) David Macklin | OVR 85 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
Macklin has 92 SPD, 90 AWR, 88 AGI and 90 ACC. This guys does not make it past Monday?s free agent deadline.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FS | There are a couple veteran FS?s that I think can still play even if they are slow and old.

1.) Rodney Harrison | OVR 99 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
Yeah, he has SPD of 80 but he has 96 AWR and is still strong with 73 STR, 80 CTH and 88 TAK.

2.) Lawyer Milloy | OVR 96 | acquired: member of the original SFL roster
His SPD is better with 82, still strong with 70 STR, 98AWR and has 90 JMP .

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SS | I think there are two guys with size and the bigger sometimes is the better.

1.) Shaun Williams | OVR 91 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
Williams has 83 SPD, 89 AWR but more importantly is 6?2?.

2.) Sam Garnes | OVR 82 | Acquired: member of the original SFL roster
80 SPD is not what you want but he is 6?3?

3.) Terreal Bierria | OVR 59 | Acquired: undrafted free agent from the 2003 SFL draft
Bierria has not done much thus far in his SFL career and has a tiny OVR of 57 but he is 6?3? so he might be worth a look at for a SS2 spot.
