St. Nick is on his way to bring gifts for all the GMs of the SFL. Find out who made the Nice List and which teams will be finding coal in their stockings this year.
The Nice Tyrone Calico and the Atlanta Falcons Calico is the most talked about WR in the league right now. After 1 week of football and gaining 191 yards and a TD, he leads all WRs in yards. If this trend continues his big offseason payday will live up to value and potentially lead the Falcons to a successful year.
The Miami Dolphins After week 1?s win over the Washington Redskins, they?re showing to be the most convincing win for top team in the SFL right now. Praised for their offseason draft and additional trades, the Miami dolphins start the year off right with a win over the defending Super Bowl Champions. WR Roscoe Parrish was the star of the game, catching 2 touchdowns and leading the dolphins to their first win in the season.
Patrick Surtain and the St. Louis Rams In his first game as a STL Ram, Surtain showed an elite skill set that proves he was one of the best trades in the offseason with a line of 3 tackles, 6 deflections, and 2 INTS (plus an off the record INT on a 2 pt conversion). The 9 year pro will look to face off against the San Francisco 49ers in week 2. A tasty matchup with developing QB Kyle Orton under center.
Tony Hunt and the Indianapolis Colts Rookie HB Tony Hunt helped the Colts in their win in week 1 vs the New Orleans Saints. Hunt ran for 120 yards and two touchdowns including a 44 yard breakaway. The 6?2? 219 lb big man was taken 16th in this year?s draft. If he can keep these numbers up, the Colts will have a reliable running back and an offensive weapon to keep up with any team this season.
Kurt Warner and the Dallas Cowboys In a statement game that puts last year in the rearview mirror, the Dallas Cowboys were victorious over the reliable New York Giants. The veteran QB Kurt Warner threw for 3 touchdowns to both to Reggie Wayne (2) and Andre Johnson (1). Warner continues to shows his experience and if he can remain healthy, the strength of the Cowboys could be a top ten team. Conversely, GM Will Cook had some words that sent him straight to the Naughty List (see below).
Adrian Peterson and Muhsin Muhammad and the Green Bay Packers In a very difficult matchup vs the Philadelphia Eagles the Green Bay Packers are showing life. Rookie HB Adrian Peterson is showing his first round value by running for 127 yards on 27 carries. And through the air veteran WR Muhsin Muhammad is showing light at the twilight of his career. An incredible 80 yard play set the Packers up for a score. Both Packers were able to lead their team in a close matchup and win 19-17 as the final seconds counted down on the Eagles. Both Muhammad and Peterson find themselves on the nice list this year.
The Naughty GM Will Cook, separate from the Dallas Cowboys Taunting divisional rivals via twitter is in poor taste. We can all appreciate a good win amongst the division, but week 1 is a bit of an over reaction. A suspension did come down from the league and this includes an appearance on the Naughty List. Shame!
Alex Smith and the Chicago Bears The Chicago Bears have a roster with some of the most potential talent in the SFL, which is why its so hard to see QB Alex Smith struggle in his first week. The San Diego chargers aren?t a push over defense, so it was a tough matchup, but 3 interceptions will kill your team. CB Tory James had Smith?s number coming home with 2 interceptions for the game. A lone bright spot, its great to see rookie TE Greg Olsen leading the team, and could be a reliable receiver for them this season. Putting a tough game behind, Smith has shown he can lay a flat game from time to time and should bounce back next week against the Chiefs. Look for better games from Vincent Jackson and Miles Austin and an improved offense as the season progresses. Until then a 23.5 QBR lands him on the Naughty List.
Sebastion Janikowski and the Oakland Raiders The polish cannon makes this year?s naughty list with a rare game losing missed kick giving the Detroit Lions victory this week. The All-Pro kicker led the league last year with touchbacks, so its strange to see a missed field goal from a rather reliable kicker. He?ll look to get back on the Nice List next week when the Raiders face off against the Denver Broncos.
The Carolina Panthers Unsportsmanlike conduct is never a good look, so when messages are coming from the Panther?s locker room bragging about ?breaking the Rams? after injuries linger on the Rams roster and threats toward divisional rivals the Atlanta Falcons about broken backs, that puts the Panthers on the Naughty List this year. Promote generosity and goodwill to all teams.
Truthfully, it?s lame to pick on teams with a bad week, and certainly 1 week of football is near meaningless. I tease with good humor. All the teams have worked really hard to prepare for this season and each team deserves to be on the Nice List. I wish everyone a happy holidays and a few chuckles.
So, tell me, in your opinion which players on your team you?re grateful for and deserve to be on the Nice List this year?
