2008 SFL MOCK DRAFT V2.0

May the Draft gods be with you all tomorrow, even my division rivals!

1.1- Pittsburgh Steelers - WR Jordy Nelson- Kansas State
Tims in a Madden wet dream right now, a Kansas State player is a top draft choice and in a position of need. I think the choice is obvious, he is going to be a top notch WR for a long time, he checks all the boxes for an elite WR.

1.2- Kansas City Chiefs - CB Aqib Talib- Kansas
I wanted to go hardy here but I think Justin Herr see's that he screwed up and has no other choice but to make ammends but he lands a top notch corner in Talib so it's not so bad.

1.3- Seattle Seahawks - LE Chris Long- Virginia
I think Hardy is definitely a consideration but Long is the best player in this draft class imo and Rock sees a huge opportunity to boost that pass rush with a freakish athlete which he covets in all his players. The Browns got a heck of a deal for that pick but it's one the Hawks felt they had to do. He also leap frogs daren who had clear interest in Long.

1.4- Miami Dolphins - WR James Hardy- Indiana
They don't get DE Long but James Hardy would be 1 heck of a consolation prize. Pairing the 6'5" James Hardy with 6'5" Calvin Johnson would make a formidable young duo for a long time and that would be really interesting to cover those 2, the AFC East DB's are on notice.

1.5- Arizona Cardinals - RT Carl Nicks- Nebraska
This would be a huge hole to fill on the cards roster, literally and figuratively. As the 6'4" 340+ pounder also boast excellent STR and comes with solid football AWR, his blocking is outstanding also.

1.6- Arizona Cardinals - TE Gary Barnidge- Louisville
I normally don't recommend taking a TE this high unless he's and elite prospect and that's exactly what Barnidge is, an all around elite TE, 6'5", strong, blazing fast, can CTH, can out JMP most, and is a solid blocker. I think Apolo has to be happy with these 2 immediate starters in his 2nd draft.

1.7- Chicago Bears - RT Gosder Cherilus- Boston College
RT Calvin Armstrong had 27 PAN blocks and 6 sacks allowed, that isn't going to cut it. They just acquired QB Matt Hasselbach from the Seahawks so giving him weapons and protection is key. He seems to have enough weapons to make him a viable threat for the division now he needs the protection and Cherilus is a great option here.

1.8- Philadelphia Eagles - RB Jonathan Stewart- Oregon
The best RB in the draft class falls to the Iggles who just got a mother lode for Eli Manning and now have a solid starting RB in Stewart, only 20 years old, good STR, fast, good burst who has Pro Bowl potential in year 1.

1.9- Kansas City Chiefs - WR Malcolm Kelly- Oklahoma
After the initial Chiefs blunder at CB they regroup here a bit, I really like Malcolm Kelly if he doesn't skew down in everything. He has great size at 6'3", he's fast, the best hands in this WR class and can go up and get those JMP passes with ease, 2 home runs here for Justin.

1.10- New England Patriots - RG Chilo Rachal- USC
A combined age of 74 years at RG between those 2 old timers for the Pats, it's time to pass the torch and Rachal is an animal and should fill in immediately for them. He's a future Pro Bowler for sure, he has the size, speed, agility to go along with his brute strength. All he needs to do is work on his blocking along the way.

1.11- Oakland Raiders - RE Calais Campbell- Miami
I can see Kearse and Campbell just teeing off on QB's, that would certainly be a formidable DL front. Campbell has great size, elite speed, elite burst, he's not very football AWR, just an average tackler and his STR is below average but he's a pure pass rushing specialist.

1.12- Detroit Lions - WR Andre Caldwell- Florida
Reggie Wayne will start the progression protocol next year and Dennis Northcutt is more of a return specialist. Caldwell is a blazer who can not only burn you deep but has adequate hands and JMP ball ability, he'd be a solid addition to the receiving core and can be the slot WR for a few seasons.

1.13- Philadelphia Eagles - DT Red Bryant- Texas A&M
I didn't pick this because breck stated it in the channel, I had Breck selecting Bryant as he's already similar to John Henderson right off the bat. He could replace Henderson and save a couple mil in cap space. Bryant can push the pile with ease due to that 99 STR.

1.14- Jacksonville Jaguars - SS Dominique Barber- Minnesota
Like I said before if I'm going by BPA then Dominique Barber is the best player on my list here, he doesn't fill a need but he can be a stud for us. He isn't crazy tall at just 6'0" but everything else is elite about him...He has SPD, STR, TAK and is football AWR, he'd be real hard to pass up here.

1.15- Baltimore Ravens - DE Derrick Harvey- Florida
I think the Ravens would like to boost that pass rush, move Harvey to LE, now they have an outside speed rusher. Harvey is another tall, speed demon in the mold of Long and Campbell but another prospect with subpar STR. I think Harvey could be a double digit sack type of impact player.

1.16- Indianapolis Colts - WR Josh Morgan- Virginia Tech
Morgan is an excellent all around WR and would be another target for QB Peyton Manning, he would fill the slot position nicely with his skill set. A very good athlete, good hands, good JMP. Looks like a good fit for the Colts.

1.17- Baltimore Ravens - RG Corey Gibas- Texas A&M
The Ravens were looking to trade Stinchcomb this offseason and they haven't replaced him with a veteran, Gibas gives them a solid option here. He has good size for the position at 6'3" 330 lbs, he has some of the quickest feet in the draft, a very agile pulling G, he'll need to work on his blocking but thats an attribute that is progressable.

1.18- Minnesota Vikings - RB Matt Forte- Tulane
I was going to go Clifton Smith here but that just doesn't seem like the type of back that Neal prefers. I understand the Vikings took Michael Bush in rd 2 of last season but if Taylor gets injured does he really want to put the load in Bushes hand? (that's what she said) Forte has a nice blend of power, speed, his CAR and BTK will be worked on but both are more than adequate.

1.19- New York Jets - RB Clifton Smith- Fresno State
It gets very difficult when you start getting to teams that look pretty good along the rosters so you almost try to think of scenarios and in this scenario I see a big drop off if Turner were to go down with an injury. Smith to me is undersized for the position but as a primary backup/scat back he'd be an outstanding insurance policy.

1.20- Baltimore Ravens - SS Craig Steltz- LSU
After securing RE Harvey, RG Gibas the Ravens now look to shoring up the secondary with Steltz, who could easily start over Demps. If Thigpen improves the Ravens will keep their job as GM, Gibas helps and so does better defense.

1.21- Green Bay Packers - QB Erik Ainge- Tennessee
I heard GM Gary Hickman say if he was there QB Erik Ainge would be a Packer so let's see if this was all just smoke but it would make sense, he could groom behind Delhomme for a season or 2. He is one of the taller QB's, not sure if Brohm would be the choice here or not.

1.22- Cleveland Browns - LT Jake Long- Michigan
Current LT Jacob bender was very average as the starter in year 1, he is very athletic but his blocking skills are sub par. Jake Long is athletic, lacks brute STR but if his STR at least stays even then 90 STR with his athleticism and blocking skills would be awesome.

1.23- Cincinnati Bengals - RT Branden Albert- Virginia
RT Mike Goff had a decent season but he's regressing rapidly. Albert has size, STR, Athleticism and the blocking skills, he might want to hold off a season before starting Albert unless he has to just to get him fine tuned for the fast paced SFL.

1.24- Tennessee Titans - RE Lawrence Jackson-USC
Jackson isn't going to blow you away in any 1 particular attribute but he's solid all across the board, he is quick off the snap, decent burst to the QB or RB and should have no trouble as the starter in year 1, he'll need to work on football AWR and TAK but getting to the QB should come natural to him.

1.25- Cincinnati Bengals- - SS Caleb Campbell- Army
The Bengals look to shore up the secondary with Campbell, he should start immediately so to get a starter here late in round 1 is always a plus. It fills a need and falls into the BPA area as were getting into the 2nd tier prospects. Campbell has starter traits with his size, SPD, JMP and TAK.

1.26- San Francisco 49ers - RB Rashard Mendenhall- Illinois
Stephen Davis is on the verge of retirement and lost many steps, Mendenhall has many of the traits you looks for in a starting RB, he's the strongest of the main backs left that have 1st-2nd round grades, his SPD isn't exactly where you want it to be but he has excellent burst, AGI, decent CAR and BTK as well.

1.27- Cleveland Browns - ILB Philip Wheeler- Georgia Tech
Wheeler would be a solid backup to Trotter or a solid replacement if he's traded, he appears to be the fastest of the ILB and offers good size, athletic ability, football AWR and TAK right from the get go.

1.28- Cleveland Browns - LE Cliff Avril- Purdue
A solid security blanket if Freeney gets hurt, also we all know he'll never finish out that giant bloated contract. Progress Avril until he can take over 2-3 seasons from now.

1.29- Buffalo Bills - RG Josh Sitton- UCF
I don't know if they really plan on starting RG Chris Rogers or not but he doesn't offer much at all as far as athletic ability. Sitton is big, STR, agile but will need to work on blocking and football AWR like most of these young prospects .

1.30- Washington Redskins - ROLB Keith Rivers- USC
A very under rated prospect in this draft but the ROLB is always sought after which is why Rivers falls a bit. He has great size, agility, speed off the edge, can pick off passes in coverage and is an above average tackler right off the bat, saves the skins some money if they trade Arrington.

1.31- Pittsburgh Steelers - QB Brian Brohm- Louisville
I'm pretty sure The Steelers moved back into the round to pick off any remaining QB who could end up falling. This may be a stretch as teams usually snag QB's unexpectedly but Brohm falls to the Steelers here.

1.32- New Orleans Saints - RG Oniel Cousins- UTEP A&M
The Champs sit back and convert RT Oniel Cousins into a RG, the perfect size for a RG, excellent STR at 95, pretty good athlete to go along with excellent blocking.
