2002 SFL Trade Reviews

I am starting this at midnight with hopes of reviewing all 2002 trades. I have plans of reviewing all trades in an ongoing article series. For now, I plan on simply reviewing the trade and providing my opinion on who came out ahead. Since I am going to be looking at my trades in a team news article I will not be adding my trades to this post.

Here we go! Update- Well it is 2:15 AM and I am not making much progress here. I will continue this later.

San Diego Chargers & Philadelphia Eagles
GM’s AC & Leo
SD sends WR Tim Dwight & WR Eric Parker
PHI sends RB Brian Westbrook
WR Dwight- 39 rec, 697 yards,1 tf,118 kr, 2848 yards, 1 td, 76 pr, 370 yards
WR Parker- 166 rec, 2635 yards, 15 td, 111 kr, 2488 yards, 1 td, 32 pr, 113 yards
RB Westbrook- 1071 att, 4995 yards, 33 td, 56 rec, 986 yards, 10 td, 415 kr, 10,061 yards, 4 td, 101 pr, 526 yards
Winner: AC & the Chargers. Westbrook has two 1000 yard rushing seasons plus 10,000 kick return yards and 47 total td’s

San Diego Chargers & Philadelphia Eagles
GM’s AC & Leo
SD sends a 5th rd draft pick
PHI sends QB Koy Detmer
QB Detmer- 97 comp, 219 att, 44 comp %, 1386 yards, 9 td, 13 int, 54.3 qbr
Winner: Even

San Diego Chargers & Detroit Lions
GM’s AC & Brad
SD sends a 2nd rd draft pick & RE DeQuincy Scott
Det sends RG Ray Brown, CB Todd Lyght & TE Mikhael Ricks
RE Scott- 47 tkl, 5 sacks, 2 ff, 2 fr
RG Brown- 63 pk, 6 sacks allowed
TE Ricks- 75 rec, 1230 yards, 8 td
Winner: Brad & the Lions- I think the 2nd rd pick was worth more than the low to mid level talent the Chargers received.

San Diego Chargers & Cincinnati Bengals
GM’s AC & Brady
SD sends TE Stephen Alexander
CIN sends TE Sean Brewer & LT Richmond Webb
TE Alexander- 68 rec, 894 yards, 6 td
TE Brewer- recorded no stats
LT Webb- 1 season, 79 pancakes, 4 sacks allowed
Winner: Even- Alexander proved to be a decent option at TE/backup and Webb provided the Bengals with a good 2002 season.

Kansas City Chiefs & Carolina Panthers
GM’s Tim & Breck
KC sends a 2nd and a 4th rd draft pick
CAR sends MLB Will Weatherspoon & ROLB Brad Jackson
ROLB Jackson- 67 tkl, 4 tkl for loss, 5 sacks, 1 ff, 3 fr
MLB Weatherspoon- 742 tkl, 83 tkl for loss, 7 sacks, 8 ff, 3 fr, 15 int, 1 td
Winner: Tim & the Chiefs as Weatherspoon has been a great MLB recording 5 seasons of 100+ tackles and 1 season with 20 tackles for loss. Weatherspoon is still going strong at just 28 years old.

New York Giants and New York Jets
GM’s Romeo & Kevin
NYG send SS Shaun Williams, MLB Kevin Lewis & CB Ralph Brown
NYJ send LT Jumbo Elliott
SS Williams- 379 tkl, 14 tfl, 1 sack, 5 ff, 4 fr, 20 int, 2 td
MLB Lewis- 40 tkl, 5 tfl, 1 sack, 1 ff
CB Brown- 88 tkl, 4 tfl, 2 sacks, 2 fr, 2 int
LT Jumbo Elliott- 1 season, 57 pancakes, 6 sacks allowed
Winner: Kevin & the Jets. SS Shaun Williams has had a very good SFL career.

New York Giants and Detroit Lions
GM’s Romeo & Brad
NYG send FS Ryan Clark & FB Darnell Dinkins
DET send RE Robert Porcher
RE Porcher- 2 seasons, 67 tkl, 11 tfl, 10 sacks, 2 ff, 2 fr
FS Clark- 390 tkl, 6 tfl, 5 ff, 1 fr, 8 int
FB Dinkins- 108 pancakses vs 0 sacks allowed, 22 rec, 245 yards, 38 att, 129 yards rushing, 2 td
Winner: Even- I think even though FS Clark has turned in a a good career thus far, he has not been a superstar. Porcher turned in two decent seasons for the Giants.

New York Giants and Chicago Bears
GM’s Romero & Brent
NYG send QB Kerry Collins
CHI send QB Jim Miller & a 1st rd draft pick
QB Collins- 903 comp, 1669 att, 54% comp, 13,572 passing yards, 94 td, 58 int, 85.3 qbr
QB Miller- no meaningful stats
Winner: It is hard to say who wins when there is a 1st rd draft pick involved. I will take a shot and say the Bears win though since Collins later was traded for significant value.

Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jags
GM’s Brad & Jason
DET sends DT Shaun Rogers, CB Donovan Greer & CB Chris Cash
JAC send DT Marcus Stroud & CB Fernando Bryant
DT Rogers- 203 tkl, 27 tfl, 32 sacks, 5 ff, 4 fr
CB Greer- no stats
CB Cash- no meaningful stats
DT Stroud- 242 tkl, 58 tkl for loss, 41 sacks, 4 ff, 2 fr
CB- Bryant- 387 tkl, 27 tfl, 3 sacks, 1 ff, 3 fr
Winner: Brad and the Lions. While Rogers has been a good NT, Stroud has been a stud DT and CB Bryant has provided solid play for Lions (2002) and 49’ers (2003-current).

Detroit Lions and Cincinnati Bengals
GM’s Brad & Brady
DET send LE Kalimba Edwards
CIN send RB Rudi Johnson
LE Edwards- 278 tkl, 53 tkl for loss, 69 sacks, 5 ff, 4 fr
RB Johnson- 1178 att, 4594 rush yards, 35 td, 54 rec, 658 yards
Winner: Brady & the Bengals. While Rudi Johnson has a season of 1000+ yards rushing, LE Edwards has provided great productivity at the LE position.

Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles
GM’s Brad & Leo
DET sends WR Az- Zahir Hakim & a 3rd rd draft pick
PHI sends CB Lito Sheppard & a 1st rd draft pick
WR Hakim- 258 rec, 4163 yards, 28 td
CB Sheppard- 324 tkl, 20 tkl for loss, 1 sack, 4 ff, 2 fr, 25 int, 5 td
Winner: Brad & the Lions. Even though WR Hakin turned in two great seasons for the Patriots giving up a legit CB in Sheppard as well as a 1st rd draft pick was simply too much for the Eagles to spend to land the fast but extremely undersized WR Hakim.

TO BE CONTINUED (prob in the offseason)
