PICK | TEAM | PLAYER | ANALYSIS |
1.01 | | CB Sean Smith | The Vikings got one hell of a deal to move up in the SFL draft (though it wasn't too bad for Buffalo either). Regardless, we all know who they want -- Sean Smith is the type of player that makes GM Neal Wintermute drool. |
1.02 | | DT Terrance Knighton | It sounds crazy that a defensive tackle will get drafted second overall, but Knighton will benefit a lot from a move to defensive end. He's a stud and huge and I doubt the Bills don't select him if they stand pat. |
1.03 | | MLB James Laurinaitis | One of the better MLB prospects in a few seasons, the Chiefs are trying to move out of their spot (a team like Baltimore may be inclined to move up for this player). If they stand pat, the pick will be the Ohio State linebacker. |
1.04 | | LOLB Clint Sintim | How crazy is it that the first four players in the draft will be defensive players, after we've seen offensive players dominate these drafts for years? Sintim is meant to be a Seahawks and is likely the selection here. |
1.05 | | CB Derek Cox | The run on defensive players continues, although Michael Crabtree may interest GM Wade Pearce here. In the end, I think he selects Cox who looks like he should be able to contribute immediately on a team that needs a bit of cornerback depth. |
1.06 | | LG Andy Levitre | Dallas traded up without a plan -- I'll admit that. Levitre would likely be selected and pegged for an immediate move to left tackle (or Jean-Gilles may make that move). GM William Cook is a fan of the Beavers, so this is a bit of a homer pick. |
1.07 | | QB Mark Sanchez | With Peyton Manning gone, I'm sure of one thing -- Brad Smith is not the starting quarterback in Indianapolis next season. Mark Sanchez appears to be the best quarterback in the draft class and is likely the selection here. |
1.08 | | MLB Scott McKillop | We're back to defensive stars as I think the Colts may look to move to a 3-4 defense this offseason. McKillop would pair well with Leon Williams, selected a few years back and create a very powerful linebacking corps in Indianapolis. |
1.09 | | WR Michael Crabtree | If the Lions are going to make Aaron Brooks work at quarterback, they have to consider drafting him a wide receiver to go along with Reggie Wayne. They silently have five first round picks, so Crabtree makes a lot of sense here. |
1.10 | | HB Beanie Wells | Another hunch, but I think Beanie Wells has a good private workout and ends up getting selected higher than most people think due to his higher weight and decent strength. It might be a bit early here, but if Detroit wants him, they have to grab him. |
1.11 | | HB Andre Brown | There are only two playable running backs (at least at first glance) in this draft. There is also a small shortage on decent running backs in the league, so I believe that leads to some reaches. Detroit snags Brown here, just to make sure. |
1.12 | | TE Jared Cook | This is a no-brainer for Arizona. While they passed on the stud TE last year, Cook dropping to 1.12 is not likely to release the same result. Arizona rushes to the podium and GM Apolo Shapiro announces Cook as their next tight end. |
1.13 | | DT B.J. Raji | Raji is a beast in the middle and fits the type of player that GM Norbert Huszti is likely going to want to add to his team. He gives Baltimore the flexibility to go 4-3 and 3-4, depending on the defensive scheme they want to play. |
1.14 | | CB Kevin Barnes | I think the Ravens may want to move up for Derek Cox, but Barnes is a very good consolation prize at 1.14. In a defensive heavy draft, grabbing a talent like Barnes near the middle is a very big win for a team on the hot seat. |
1.15 | | LT Eugene Monroe | The offensive linemen in this draft are hard to get a read on. While Loadholt and Kropog are stronger than Monroe, Monroe can start on day one from the left tackle position, which may be what GM Gary Cohen decides he needs. |
1.16 | | SS Michael Mitchell | Some depth in the secondary would be appreciated for the Detroit defense, so after grabbing a couple of offensive playmakers, they grab a safety that with a good skew could be a very good player. And Detroit still has two picks left! |
1.17 | | SS William Moore | Back to back safeties are off the board! William Moore looks like a player that would fit really well into Cincinnati's defensive scheme and should help them to return to the playoffs -- they have the pieces, they just need depth. |
1.18 | | LOLB Brian Cushing | This is assuming that the Bears retain Matt Hasselbeck -- if they don't, they may look at Matthew Stafford. Regardless, Cushing is a solid player and makes a case for the second best outside linebacker in the draft. He's likely the selection. |
1.19 | | LE David Veikune | This is a steal of a selection for the Redskins, who very likely won't even be selecting here and will trade it for a veteran. They'd be best to stand pat, as Veikune looks like he'll be a beast of a defensive end. |
1.20 | | CB Sherrod Martin | GM Gary Hickman likes tall cornerbacks and there are still a couple decent ones left. I wouldn't be surprised to see them take a player like Martin at 1.20. With a deep cornerback class though, it could be the same position but a different name. |
1.21 | | LOLB Rey Maualuga | I actually forgot I had this pick. With Peter Boulware now wearing a Chargers jersey, he has to be replaced. Maualuga would likely be my preferred player at this point and I think he should be able and ready to start from day one. |
1.22 | | MLB Tyrone McKenzie | This isn't an overly deep middle linebacker class, but McKenzie is good value in the 20s. New England would do well to add him as it gives them the option to replace MLB Ruud if they need to during the upcoming season. |
1.23 | | WR Patrick Turner | If we know anything about the Arizona Cardinals, they like their tall receivers, but have dealth with injuries. Adding another 6'5" wide receive in Patrick Turner may be a smart decision so they don't skip a beat. |
1.24 | | WR Brian Hartline | This is about where I expect the run on wide receivers to happen. All the receivers in this class (aside from Crabtree) are flawed, but could work as a WR2/WR3 option. The Lions got Crabtree, but now also add Hartline to play alongside him. |
1.25 | | CB Brandon Underwood | Underwood is raw, but his athletic ability is obvious. I feel like the Colts would love to add one more cornerback to their squad in the draft and Underwood provides some quality at the end of the first round. I wouldn't be surprised to see them draft him. |
1.26 | | CB Bradley Fletcher | Depth at cornerback is beginning to disappear, so the Lions get in on the position with their final of five first round draft picks. Fletcher could skew really well, or be a bad player with a bad skew, but I think he skews well. |
1.27 | | LE Tyson Jackson | I see the Raiders adding some defensive line depth in the upcoming draft. You could possibly make a case for Larry English, but Jackson appears more rounded and ready to start for Oakland on day one. Either would fit well, however. |
1.28 | | FS Louis Delmas | In what has been a primarily defensive first round, I expect the safeties to start flying off the board near the end of the first round and into the second round. Delmas may only be 5'11", but he can be a solid contributor. |
1.29 | | RT Phil Loadholt | Okay, this is crazy that I have Loadholt going so low in the first round -- I'll have to fix that next time around. That being said, I do expect the offensive linemen in this draft to drop and Loadholt may be available later than he should. |
1.30 | | DT Sen'Derrick Marks | Marks is an interesting prospect. His awareness is extremely low, but his physical abilities are quite good for his position. I expect him to go around this range and the Colts might be looking for some defensive line depth. |
1.31 | | LE Larry English | GM Neal Wintermute would be very happy to select defensive end English at this juncture, given his speed and acceleration. He made need a couple seasons to progress, but once he does, he should be a quality starter. |
1.32 | | LE Paul Kruger | It's the end of the first round and some teams are showing they would like defensive line depth. It's our first heavy defensive draft in the SFL, so it's going to be an exciting one and Kruger is a great nightcap for the evening. |
