2009 SFL Mock Draft- 1 and only
By Brad Barber
Special to sfl-football.com

Sorry all I have no clue how to put pictures on here anymore or even change the font size, I know what a noob but here is my Mock.... feel free to tell me who you're taking if I got it wrong!

2009 SFL MOCK DRAFT VERSION 1 AND ONLY

1.1- Minnesota Vikings- CB Sean Smith- Utah
The Vikings already told us who they're taking, it cost them a pretty penny to move up a slot but 6'3" 200+ lbs. corners don't grow on trees. He is a monster and one of the elite players in this draft class and in my eyes is the best player in the draft.

1.2- Kansas City Chiefs- CB Derek Cox- William & Mary
The Chiefs could go a few different ways here and it would make sense but as I look over the roster, they can pick up some OL in FA, possibly a WR there also but the FA market for corners is gross. Cox is another tall, stud CB with excellent SPD, size, and has similar skill set as Smith as this looks to be an awesome crop of corners. rookie corner Eric Wright gave up 58 CTHA, Cox won't give up that many I can almost guarantee it.

1.3- Buffalo Bills- ILB James Laurinaitis- Ohio State
As soon as Brandon mentioned 3-4 defense in the forums I immediately thought wow he must be drafting the ILB which would make perfect sense as james has the size, off the charts athletic ability, already has 70+ AWR, 89 TAK and 68 CTH, the dude has DROY written all over him.

1.4- Seattle Seahawks- LOLB Clint Sintim- Virginia
Who is thoe most athletic freak at a position of need and I'd have to say that's LOLB Clint Sintim. Explosive SPD, great STR, excellent closing SPD and decent tackling but he will need to work on his CTH to be affective in coverage.

1.5- Houston Texans- CB Keenan Lewis- Oregon State
It sucks to see a division rival come away with such a stud player and yet another of these talented corners go at the top of the draft. The Texans have many players up for trade but corner makes the most sense here. Like the above corners he has a special mix of size (6'1" 197 lbs), an athletic freak with excellent ball skills tracking down the QB.

1.6- Dallas Cowboys- DT Terrance Knighton- Temple
The massive 6'3' 321 lbs. Knighton lands here with the Boys. I think the only thing that would have been the cherry on top would have been 90+ STR but his SPD even skewed down by 6 is pretty incredible for a guy of his size and he'll be getting to the QB often which was probably a downfall for Dallas in 2008, Knighton helps make Dallas great again.

1.7- Indianapolis Colts- CB Kevin Barnes- Maryland
I think CB has to be in play here in Indy, when Justin Miller went down with an injury teams were able to throw all over them. Whether Barnes plays in the NCB slot year 1 or starts right away I think he'll be an upgrade wherever he stars.

1.8- Indianapolis Colts- QB Mark Sanchez- USC
The Colts have the activity points to switch his scrambler tendencies and I think he's the 1st QB off the board. We'll be seeing that freaky looking bandana wearer in our division hopefully butt fumbling right to our defense but all that aside it makes alot of sense for the Colts and unless they go after and win Matt Hasselbach then I think this has to be the selection for them.

1.9- Detroit Lions- WR Michael Crabtree- Texas Tech
GM Scott Gardner's 1st ever SFL draft is a big one that will probably define his future in Detroit so he needs to swing and not miss. To me WR Michael Crabtree is the safest WR in this class and a solid future #1 with excellent hands, good SPD and excellent run after catch.

1.10- Arizona Cardinals- TE Jared Cook- South Carolina
Word on the street is that Apollo likes his TE's blazing fast and Cook offers not only a giant target for QB Rex Grossman at 6'5" 245 lbs. but also has great hands, instincts and the guy is no slouch in the passing game. Back to back top 10 tightends has to be an SFL record.

1.11- Detroit Lions- CB Vontae Davis- Illinois
Like I said this draft will define the Lions and now they shore up another area of need which is the secondary. CB Sam madison is 1 more year away from retirement, R.W. McQuarters is said to be on the block and although Davis lacks the 6'0" height by an inch he is a solid overall CB who will learn behinmd Madison year 1. Josh Lay is a solid CB 2 for the Lions and the future looks bright with Lay on 1 side and now Davis taking over eventually at the CB 2 spot.

1.12- Arizona Cardinals- RB Chris "Beanie" Wells- Ohio State
I fully expect the Cards to address this issue but I purposely chose TE as the cards 1st pick because the Lions already had 2 RB worthy of starting and could have been tempted by Cook so Wells falls to the Cards here and looks like a solid player, he is a power back but also offers adequate SPD and burst once he reaches the open field, he will be a load to bring down for sure.

1.13- Baltimore Ravens- ILB Scott McKillop- Pittsburgh
The ravens traded away an aging Ray Lewis and immediately replace him with Bart Scott but in the 3-4 it requires 2 skilled ILB . McKillop checks all the boxes for a 3-4 ILB including size, STR, TAK and has enough SPD to compliment Scott.

1.14- Baltimore Ravens- NT B.J. Raji- Boston College
The Ravens have been looking for that true NT and Raji fits the bill to a "T" , he is a massive 332 lbs but quite agile for a guy of his stature, his already above average TAK makes him even more desirable and he is strong as an ox which will be very hard to knock him off the LOS in the run game and already comes with better than most AWR which is a huge plus.

1.15- New Orleans Saints- SS Patrick Chung- Oregon
The Saints don't have to many glaring weakness' but I do see an opening at SS and Patrick Chung at least in my opinion is the best SS in this class. He lacks in height but is athletic, will contest for jump balls, he's a tacklng machine and rarely gets injured but will have to work on his CTH.

1.16- Cleveland Browns- CB Malcolm Jenkins- Ohio State
The Browns traded away 1 veteran corner and waived the other so I think Malcolm Jenkins comes in right away and takes 1 of the open spots. He has the size, AWR, adequate SPD and he doesn't get injured. This is a CB heavy draft and Jenkins has mid first round talent depending on skew.

1.17- Cincinnati Bengals- LE Larry English- Northern Illinois
I tried placing English on another team above the Bengals but all teams had LE and some had 2 that could be starters so the most athletic DE falls to the Bengals here and I think this is a great fit since Kalimba Edwards still has 2 seasons left on his contract. English can spot start or even play some RE while he learns the ropes. He'll be creating havoc once he's ready to go in AFC North.

1.18- Chicago Bears- RB Shonn Greene- Iowa
Chicago, like many of us are one of those teams who just needs the QB to develop since the roster is very talented. I don't see much else behind Cedric Cobbs so this makes alot of sense.

1.19- Washington Redskins- DL Sen'Derrick Marks- Auburn
Marks seems like the perfect fit for a Washington team always thinking outside the box. Marks could play NT with his STR or at RE, GM Bryan Mellon always seems to gravitate towards those versatile players and I think Marks is one of them..

1.20- Arizona Cardinals- ILB Robert Henson- TCU
At this point all starters look to be in place for the Cards so finding future studs to eventually take over the reigns a few seasons down the road makes sense. Henson isn't one of those monster ILB but he's one of the most athletic I've seen in some time. With his SPD/AGI/'ACC he should get to the ball carriers and QB with ease. He'll have to work on some thing but you cant teach athletic ability.

1.21- Dallas Cowboys- OT Phil Loadholt- Oklahoma
Itt may be a stretch that Loadholt falls all the way into the 20's but this is a CB rich draft and I expect them to go early and often. Loadholt is massive at 6'8" 340 + lbs. , strong as an Ox but can move like a 240 lber which is a very scary combo and should be an immediate starter at either OT spot.

1.22- New England Patriots- OT Eugene Monroe- Virginia
The Patriots have a solid roster but there are alot of aging vets starting to pop up. Ty Law is a glorified S at this point but do you take the 9 or 10th best CB or take the best LT and let him learn for a year and groom behind one of the best.

1.23- Arizona Cardinals- OC Alex Mack- Cal
I wanted to go Caldwell here but that run block was just too unpredictable and would take quite a time to build up. Mack is a solid all around prospect and I think he'll be the first C selected, he can groom behind Hartwig for a couple of seasons.

1.24- Cleveland Browns- OC Antoine Caldwell- Alabama
Back to back centers but this time I think Tom Collins tries his luck with that 95 AWR/** PBK while his 96 STR will make him very difficult to push him off the line just don't ever run up the middle for any reasoning.

1.25- Indianapolis Colts- RE Robert Ayers- Tennessee
The Colts took a flier on LE Derrick Harvey last year and I think they came away happy. This time around they fill the RE spot with the young but very talented Ayers who has good size, SPD, burst but will have to work on that TAK.

1.26- Washington Redskins- CB Brandon Underwood- Cincinnati
Underwood looks like he could be a legit top notch CB but must go to a team not willing to throw him to the wolves right away, get that abysmal AWR up and you have the makings of a superstar. Bryan has stated Springs is availale for a late round pick so the youngsters will most likely all be playing this season at some point.

1.27- Oakland Raiders- ILB Tyrone McKenzie- USF
The Raiders have a very talented roster but I saw there was only 1 ILB on the roster, not much cap room and he was aging so McKenzie makes sense here as he's an all around solid LB with an athletic skill set, decent STR and will need to work on TAK before taking over but that shouldn't be an issue.

1.28- Indianapolis Colts- ILB Jason Phillips- TCU
At this point the Colts are just filling roster spots but they're doing it with very good football players. Phillips is very similar to McKenzie above but not as strong, the athletic attributes are there and you can't teach those.

1.29- Miami Dolphins- RT Troy Kropog- Tulane
There's a need at RT and Kropog is still available, he's a tall guy, athletic, strong and comes with almost elite blocking on both sides of the ball which has to be a plus for anyone drafting him, I'd say he's plug and play right away with 61 AWR.

1.30- Indianapolis Colts- OL Andre Smith- Alabama
I'd say Smith will be moved to RG where there is a roster spot behind Diem who's getting older. He can wait in the wings and learn under Diem, Smith is a road grader at 6'4" 335 lbs., strong as a brama bull, not as athletic as the guys listed above which is why I have him at RG where I think he'd be a perfect fit.

1.31- Minnesota Vikings- ROLB Clay Matthews- USC
Again I don't know if Matthews has a shot falling this far down on name recognition alone but the position isn't as sought after so in this mock he falls down to the SB runner ups who have a need there as Peek is getting old in the tooth. Matthews has a nice blend of size, speed, he can cover and already displays good tackling.

1.32- Tennessee Titans- OL Jamon Meredith- South Carolina
I have Meredith landing here with the Titans as the RG, he's very athletic, unbelievable STR and above average blocking but will have to get his AWR up and fast especially if he comes in and starts right away.
