2009 Draft Day Steals + Top 5 2009 Draft Classes
By Brad Barber
Special to sfl-football.com

This draft was really awesome, every team hit home runs at least once but for draft day steals I view the players attributes, position and where he was drafted. I won't select any players I drafted because they're all draft day steals I know that already Cool If you feel I've left someone off the list or have your own feel free to share.

1.5- Dallas Cowboys- CB Derek Cox
I thought for sure Cox would go 1.2 to the Chiefs and was the next best CB on my board so getting him 3 picks later is a steal to me and should make that secondary much better.

1.12- Arizona Cardinals- RT Phil Loadholt
I'm pretty sure I mentioned many times how i would have taken Loadholt 6th overall had I not traded the pick away. He is a blend of size and power and should be a bitch to move off the LOS at 340+ lbs., the run on corners allowed others to slip so to me this is one of the biggest steals on draft day.

1.15- Dallas Cowboys- LOLB Clint Sintim
Coming back to Dallas Sintim has to be looked at as a steal here, I remember selecting Teddy Lehman when I was the Lions GM and regretted it but that was top 10, Dallas landed Sintim 15th, he can play in any scheme with his size and STR plus the speed should make him a real nightmare to game plan for, heck of a job by Dallas here.

1.16- Cleveland Browns- OL Andy Levitre
I didn't like Levitre in the top 10 but maybe I was wrong about him, he skew out very nicely and can play anywhere along the OL. He doesn't have ideal size at OT but makes up for it with brute STR and already legit blocking skills.

2.6- Houston Texans- LT Eugene Monroe
This was an awesome group of OL but for me and the OL I choose, all are over 55 AWR and Monroe is no different. He is a large human being , he lacks ideal STR but makes up for it with athletic ability and almost elite in both run and pass blocking, seriously how did this guy fall out of round 1?

2.10- Cincinnati Bengals- CB Macho Harris
Looking at Macho Harris I think he's as good as a few who went in round 1 and some could argue he should have. I don't have Alphonso Smith on here because at 5'9" I'd want that CB to have mid 90's SPD/AGI/ACC and I didn't list Underwood even though I thought it was a great pick by Atlanta because of the 40 AWR.

2.27- Oakland Raiders- DT Sen'Derrick Marks
I was real surprised that Marks slid all the way down to 2.27 as I had 3 DT rated in the 1st round and that was Terrance Knighton, B.J. Raji and Sen'Derrick Marks. I thought Marks could fall to the top of the 2nd but not all the way almost into round 3 so to get him at the bottom of round 2 I think is excellent value.

3.30- Denver Broncos- RG Duke Robinson
I had Duke Robinson as the best RG on my board and looking at him post skew doesn't change my thinking, he can work on that PBK but all other attributes look solid. Landing the best prospect at his position in round 3 is great value.

4.26- Miami Dolphins- RB Shonn Greene
This was a rough class for the RB position but it would be hard to argue that Greene isn't right up there with Beanie Wells in just about every category aside from STR so to get a player like that in round 4 you have to be happy with that value.

2009 TOP 5 DRAFTS

1- INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
The Colts had an unreal draft landing the franchise QB Mark Sanchez, a TE who will give all defenses trouble , DT B.J. Raji has the skill set to anchor the DL for years to come, ILB Jason Phillips is an athletic freak of nature. I would have liked to see the Colts take care of the biggest need which is a CB opposite of Justin Miller but you can't build it all in 1 season. Sanchez will take time to develop so we'll see if GM Ian Coyle can get him to play at a high enough level where he can see this project through until the end but this draft class was a great start.

2- MINNESOTA VIKINGS
What a prospect CB Sean Smith is, at 6'3" paired with Gamble is going to be the best pairing in the league for sure and I don't see the Vikings getting knocked off that pedestal anytime soon. Maybin is an athletic OLB with good size and excellent STR for the position. William Middleton when it's all said and done will be 97 SPD 97 AGI 99 ACC when it's all said and done, that AWR is going to be tough but if he gets some nickle and dime action right away he'll be legit in no time. ILB McKenzie needs to work on things but has all the athletic traits you look for so Neal must be happy with this draft outcome for sure.

3- CINCINNATI BENGALS
RT Troy Kropog was one of my top OL in this class and he didn't disappoint after the skew and can start immediately if needed. LE Larry English just needs to polish up his skills but should give grief to the rest of the AFC North for a long time. Macho Harris can be a top corner with some work, Brandon Pettigrew is a nice blend of size and athleticism and I might regret not taking Eric Wood over Antoine Caldwell at C.

4- DETROIT LIONS
The Lions concentrated on the OL and secondary and came away with some real good prospects that could be elite. CB;s Sherrod martin and Vontae Davis will be the cornerstone of this secondary in the not so distant future. RT of the blindside Michael Oher looks good enough to be the starting RT off the bat. OT's Xavier Fulton + Jamon Meredith can both transition to G if need be dopwn the road and are very versatile OL. Goodson can be the top guy once that CAR and AWR are a little better but if the Lions don't snag a RB in FA then Ithink Iloa gets the nod this year.

5- ATLANTA FALCONS
The Falcons were right to say they had won the draft without a 1st round pick. DE Tyson Jackson can be a beast with a little bit of TLC. OLB Aaron Curry can play in any scheme with his size, athletic ability. LT Jaime Thomas is very athletic but like many need to work on his AWR and blocking. CB Brandon Underwood can be one of the best corners to come out of this class if he works on him and I liked the other CB selected , DeAngelo Smith. Great job considering no 1st round pick.
