Who Wins the AFC South?
By Brad Barber
Special to sfl-football.com

So I wanted to see who reigns supreme this year in the AFC South so we'll go over each part of the offense, defense and special teams and for this I judge everything based on all the following factors... The eyeball test, overall and stats to configure each. If you have a better way or disagree feel free to voice it in here or do your own of your division Cool

QB

HOUSTON TEXANS- BRIAN GRIESE- 96 OVR, 173 COMP, 2,586 YARDS, 20 TD, 6 INT, 11 SACKS ALLOWED

TENNESSEE TITANS- ELI MANNING- 98 OVR, 250 COMP, 4,212 YARDS, 35 TD, 15 INT, 14 SACKS ALLOWED

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS- BRIAN BROHM- 86 OVR, 68 COMP, 1,389 YARDS, 11 TD, 6 INT, 17 SACKS ALLOWED

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS- MARK "DIRTY" SANCHEZ- 83 OVER, NO STATS- ROOKIE

Does QB really trump all? We're about to find out because I believe the team with the best QB doesn't have the best team overall bu that's just my opinion. Let's look at the 2 obviously lesser teams here being my Jaguars team and the Colts. Brohm had a decent rookie campaign but was riddled with injuries and the Colts have a rookie who is for the most part very talented for a rookie QB but like all will be experiencing highs and lows as soon as the bullets start flying. I'm giving my squad the slight advantage due to the fact that we backed ourselves up with Frye in case of injury and the Colts have nobody capable plus Brohm is more SFL ready after playing the last half of the season. Now onto the Houston Texans and the Tennessee Titans. I believe Griese is the better of the 2 between he and Eli but I believe the situation with Delhomme backing up Eli is a great one and will not miss a beat if there is an injury to Manning or vice versa, whoever they want to start. 1. TENNESSEE TITANS 2.HOUSTON TEXANS 3. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS 4. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
WINNER- TENNESSEE TITANS

RB

HOUSTON TEXANS- THOMAS JONES- 99 OVR, 107 CAR, 460 YARDS, 1 TD, 1 FUM, 4 REC, 23 YARDS, 0 TD

TENNESSEE TITANS- KEVIN JONES- 90 OVR, 334 CAR, 1,392 YARDS, 8 TD, 3 FUM, 9 REC, 116 YARDS, 1 TD

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS- RONNIE BROWN- 88 OVR, 253 CAR, 970 YARDS, 4 TD, 5 FUM, 4 REC, 11 YARDS, 0 TD

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS- TONY HUNT- 83 OVER, 340 CAR, 1,349 YARDS, 8 TD, 7 FUM, 9 REC, 156 YARDS, 1 TD

Maybe I should be writing this article after the entire offseason is over since there could be a RB who's taken by 1 of these teams mainly the Houston Texans who clearly have the cap space to fit someone like Foster in the backfield if that's a target of theirs. The Jaguars clearly purely looking at stats have the worst situation but to be fair I'm not sure what offensive system the Bucs had Ronnie Brown in but we'll definitely try and take advantage of his 75 CTH. The Texans have the most experienced RB in Thomas Jones and a solid OL blocking in front of him but Tennessee has the most productive RB in our division and that productivity to go along with the decent OL makes him the winner in our eyes. Tony Hunt has been a nice surprise but with just as many fumbles as TD he rides the pine to the Jones brothers. 1. TENNESSEE TITANS 2. HOUSTON TEXANS 3. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS 4. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS
WINNER: TENNESSEE TITANS

WR (INCLUDES TE)

HOUSTON TEXANS- WR1 JAVON WALKER, WR2 DAVID TERRELL, TE ANTHONY FASANO- 85 OVR, 159 REC, 2,511 YARDS, 19 TD, 28 DROPS

TENNESSEE TITANS- WR 1 ANQUAN BOLDIN, WR2 ROY WILLIAMS, TE JERMAINE WIGGINS- 89 OVR, 185 REC, 2,915 YARDS, 14 TD, 16 DROPS

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS- WR1 PLAXICO BURRESS, WR2 KASIM OSGOOD, TE BEN TROUP- 85 OVR, 177 REC, 3,280 YARDS, 19 TD, 21 DROPS

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS- WR1 DEMETRIUS WILLIAMS, WR2 AARON MOOREHEAD, TE JARED COOK- 81 OVER, 127 REC, 2510 YARDS, 16 TD, 9 DROPS

For WR I obviously factored in WR1 + WR2 and TE, added up all the OVR and divided by 3 to get those and added up all yardage, drops, rec etc. as a whole. The Colts obviously have a rookie starting this year so he wasn't factored in but also lost Peyton Manning and have a rookie throwing to them so to me the rookie will lock onto someone and I'm guessing that will be Williams and expect this to be the most affected negatively. The Titans have the least drops but also the least TD catches then again the most receptions albeit Roy Williams was with New Orleans so will he have the same production or better in the Titans offense? The Texans have a solid WR 1 in Javon Walker and TE in Anthony Fasano. Our WR core has to be the most consistent but we also had stud QB Jon Kitna throwing to them for most of last season so the same can be said for our group although Brohm had a really good connection with both Burress and Osgood at times. 1. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS 2. TENNESSEE TITANS 3. HOUSTON TEXANS 4. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS.
WINNER: JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

OL

HOUSTON TEXANS- LT EUGENE MONROE, LG ALAN FANECA, OC DOUG DATISH, RG BRIAN RIMPF, RT ORLANDO PACE- 93 OVR, PANCAKE BLOCKS 305, SACKS ALLOWED 18

TENNESSEE TITANS- LT LEVI BROWN, LG KEVIN SCHAFFER, OC ALEX STEPANOVICH, RG LOGAN MANKINS, RT LEONARD DAVIS- 89 OVR, PANCAKE BLOCKS 203, SACKS ALLOWED 10

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS- LT ERIC WINSTON, LG HARVEY DAHL, OC ANTOINE CALDWELL, RG JOE STALEY, RT CLINT OLDENBURG- 82 OVR, PANCAKE BLOCKS 223, SACKS ALLOWED 13

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS- LT CHRIS SNEE, LG GRANT DEBENEDICTIS, OC RYAN PONTBRIAND, RG RYAN DIEM, RT JAMMAL BROWN- 89 OVR, PANCAKE BLOCKS 251, SACKS ALLOWED 18

Looking back I'm starting to think maybe it wasn't the smartest idea to give QB Brian Brohm an even younger OL but there's no turning back now. I know who I've declared the OL winner already but I'll drag it out for conversation sake. The Texans have an outstanding veteran OL in front of Griese and Eugene Monroe should just fit right in even as a rookie. The Titans are no slouch either but with 7 guys to sign in FA while still negative in cap space maybe an OL casualty is possible but they're still a solid unit. The Colts have a really good OL capable of keeping Sanchez upright most of the season but we're clearly the youngest of the group with the oldest lineman being 27 years young. 1. HOUSTON TEXANS 2. TENNESSEE TITANS 3. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS 4. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS
WINNER: HOUSTON TEXANS

SECONDARY

HOUSTON TEXANS- CB1 DEMARCUS FAGGINS, CB2 DONALD STRICKLAND, FS MARK ROMAN, SS MICHAEL HUFF- 87 OVR, 171 TACKLES, 7 INT, 1 DEFENSIVE TD

TENNESSEE TITANS- CB1 RONDE BARBER, CB2 BRIAN WILLIAMS, FS RYAN CLARK, SS ROY WILLIAMS- 94 OVR, 219 TACKLES, 12 INT, 3 DEFENSIVE TD

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS-CB1 CHRIS MCCALLISTER, CB2 ANTREL ROLLE, FS LARON LANDRY, SS MADIEU WILLIAMS- 93 OVR, 244 TACKLES, 17 INT, 1 DEFENSIVE TD

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS- CB1 WALT HARRIS, CB2 JUSTIN MILLER, FS CHRIS HARRIS, SS ANTUAN EDWARDS- 90 OVR, 174 TACKLES, 10 INT, 0 DEFENSIVE TD

So it looks like every team either had an injury or a trade so players were in different schemes so mostly here I'm going by what I see with my own eyes. The overall are very close between teams with the highest being my Jaguars team and the lowest the Texans but overall isn't the defining, we also had the most tackles and most INT combined but again those are skewed because of trades and injuries but I do feel like the Jaguars have the upper hand here in secondary as McCallister is one of the best in the league to go along with Rolle and the safeties. The Titans have a really good veteran unit and although Barber, like McCallister has regressed they have some gas left in the tank. The Texans added a stud corner in Barnes but should see more time at NCB this season until he's ready to take over completely. The Colts will most likely address this area in next years draft heavily. 1. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS, 2. TENNSSEE TITANS 3. HOUSTON TEXANS 4. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
WINNER: JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS-ROLB MANNY LAWSON, ILB JORDAN BECK, LOLB SEDRICK HODGE- 86 OVR, 164 TACKLES, 14 TFL, 6 SACKS, 5 INT, 2 DEFENSIVE TD

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS- ROLB ERIC BARTON, ILB LEON WILLIAMS, LOLB DAVID THORNTON- 84 OVR, 237 TACKLES, 35 TFL, 6 SACKS, 5 INT, 0 DEFENSIVE TD

The top dog is an easy 1 to spot for me but after that is when it becomes merky. the Titans, Jaguars and Colts all could argue who should be the runner up here. The Titans have a nice veteran group which is starting to sound familiar while the Colts have a very under rated group who get to the ball carrier whih is why they have the most tackles and TFL of all the teams, sacks go to the Titans but INT go back to the Colts. I admit this is where I've faltered as I remember putting in high picks to LOLB and having it never pay off for us with our previous team. 1. HOUSTON TEXANS 2. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS 3. TENNESSEE TITANS 4. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS
WINNER: HOUSTON TEXANS

DEFENSIVE LINE

HOUSTON TEXANS- RE BRYAN THOMAS, DT DEREK LANDRI, DT ALAN BRANCH, LE KYLE VANDEN BOSCH- 89 OVR, 104 TACKLES, 16 TFL, 16 SACKS, 0 DEFENSIVE TD

TENNESSEE TITANS- RE JAMES HALL, DT MARCUS STROUD, DT TOMMY KELLY, LE DERRICK BURGESS- 94 OVR, 113 TACKLES, 17 TFL, 16 SACKS, 0 DEFENSIVE TD

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS-RE ANTONIO SMITH, DT SHAUN RODGERS, DT DARNELL DOCKETT, LE KABEER GBAJA-BIAMILA- 91 OVR, 78 TACKLES, 15 TFL, 13 SACKS, 0 DEFENSIVE TD

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS- RE RAHEEM BROCK DT COREY SIMON, DT B.J. RAJI, LE DERRICK HARVEY- 87 OVR, 107 TACKLES, 17 TFL, 13 SACKS, 0 DEFENSIVE TD

Another tough position to decide as all teams are very similar plus for our Jaguars squad RE Antonio Smith wasn't the starter for Washington and neither was KGB up until our trade in week 12. Again like always it seems the Titans GM Gary Cohen just likes old men (creepy). He has a veteran squad who should hold up , Houston has a nice mix of young and older players but I really like the Colts DL here, they're young, hungry and ready to start causing some chaos with the addition of Raji which doesn't bode well for the rest of us. 1. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS 2. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS 3. TENNESSEE TITANS 4. HOUSTON TEXANS
WINNER: INDIANAPOLIS COLTS

SPECIAL TEAMS

HOUSTON TEXANS- K KRIS BROWN- 98 OVR 40/43 FGM, 40/40 XP
P JOHN RYAN- 97 OVR 43.91 AVG

TENNESSEE TITANS- P KYLER RICHARDSON 43.49 AVG

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS- K STEPHEN GOSTKOWSKI- 99 OVR 39/39 FGM, 46/46 XP
P DURANT BROOKS- 96 OVR 44.36 AVG

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS- K MIKE VANDERJAGT- 99 OVR 30/30 FGM, 41/41 XP
P HUNTER SMITH 99 OVR 45.31 AVG

I think we have the slight edge here in the kicking game as we had the most FGM and 2nd most punting average, hell the Titans don't even have a K so I'm sure it's going to be some old ass veteran with half a leg left. 1. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS 2. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS 3. HOUSTON TEXANS 4. TENNESEE TITANS
WINNER: JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

So who do you guys think will win the division this season? GM's in our division you have to pick someone other than your own team.
