Who's going to be King of the North?
Chicago Bears – ROLB Clay Matthews
I could save me some time, copy Broncos description and paste it here. The bears are another very talented squad that just missing the clutch, overall they’re a solid team and the perfect dark horse. In my opinion without disrespect Packers and Lions, Bears are the team that can fight Vikings for the division, but they need the “clutch” players that raise the hand in critical moments and deliver game winning plays, both at offense and defense. My pick is ROLB Clay Matthews, first LB picked for this section and second rookie, also at defense side of the ball. The bears already have one of the best OLB with Karlos Dansby, and now Clay is going to offer a very fast LB core able to contain both the pass and run, and im picking Matthews because my instinct tells me he’s going to be a playmaker: Sacks, TFL, Interceptions.
Detroit Lions – HB Ryan Torain
It took only few days to new GM Scott Gardiner to start a revolution, a complete rebuild, in my opinion something the team needed and that was done in the right way, in the right time. The Lions right now are a team full of raw talent and I believe they should be in top considerations for open the 2010 draft with 1.1, so this completely change an analysis for them: They’re going to try and win for sure, but their priority right now is to progress young players and find their core for years to come. There’s an specific position that has a “Battle” for decide the starter and that’s HB, in the words of Scott, he regrets doing the Torain trade with Browns and he likes more the rookie Goodson. But I think eventually that’s going to change, the high strength difference going to play a decisive role into the decision and Torain will end as Detroit #1 HB and as the future face of motor city backfield.
Green Bay Packers – MLB Justin Durant
The packers made without doubts the worst movement of offseason when by accident sent their 1st round pick to Cleveland, any other year that would be an acceptable collateral damage, but the year you decide to go with a sophomore QB you can’t lose a potential high 1st. That’s something the team and GM Gary Hickman need to leave behind, but if results don’t appear im sure that’ll play a considerable mental aspect for the team. So as Bonny Tyler said: “I need a hero” and that hero is MLB Justin Durant. The 2 year pro player already received rookie and sophomore progression, he’s a very athletic LB that only miss the strength, but he check all the other attributes, with more than 100 tackles in both previous seasons he’ll keep that rhythm but now he’ll increase the interceptions number from a mediocre 1 per season to at least more than 5, being the heart of Packers defense.
Minnesota Vikings – SS Nate Salley
The Minnesota Vikings were 1 yard away from being the SFL Champions, at the end justice prevailed and Jimmy Williams saved the Jets. But Vikings roster is impressive talented, well coached and definitely are the rival to beat on the NFC. If you make a deep analysis of team building going to find GM Neal Wintermute is one of the best GM at draft day, finding special talent at late 1st, 2nd round or even late picks. My 2 options here were HB Michael Bush with a BJ prototype size but stronger and faster and SS Nate Salley a 6”3 safety with 90 speed. As already took multiple HB’s and as I believe Bush still won’t have his break season, I’ll pick SS Salley. The Vikings have invested strong on their pass defense, having one of the best secondary of the league and this season is the moment when Salley must be that complement the CB’s need. Picked a S for both SB as they both have a good speed/great body frame safety, and as I consider in an underrated position, and for teams that played well in all positions, have a top safety could be the difference.
