This article looks at the histories of the franchises in the SFL's NFC North.
Division Title
2002- Packers
2003- Packers
2004- Packers
2005- Vikings
2006- Vikings
2007- Packers
2008- Vikings
2009- Bears
Prior to the 2009 season, the NFC North was won by either the Packers or the Vikings. However, the Bears changed that in 2009 with a well deserved division title. Brett Favre was the dominant QB of the first half of the division’s history and Daunte Culpepper has been the dominant QB in the second half. All four teams in the division have had good rosters in the first eight seasons of the league. The Lions have been the only team that has as of yet to claim the division crown.
Playoff Records
Bears- 3-3
Lions- 0-1
Packers- 0-4
Vikings- 5-4
The NFC North has some very good teams and some very good seasons. The Packers have a 13-3 season on their resume along with a 12-4 season. The Vikings have had two 12-4 seasons and the Bears have also had one. The playoff performance of the division hasn’t been great. Only the 2008 Vikings made a Super Bowl which they did not win. The Bears came close in the 2002 season only to lose out the Rams.
Regular Season Records
Bears- 64-64 (3 winning seasons)
Lions- 47-81 (1 winning season)
Packers- 71-57 (5 winning seasons)
Vikings- 72-55-1 (5 winning seasons)
Both the Packers and Vikings have 5 winning seasons each. The Packers are currently in a rebuilding phase while the Vikings have a bit more of a win-now orientation. The Bears have had 3 winning seasons and they have gone through a rebuilding phase and are now on the other side. The Lions have only one winning season, but have talent on the roster. However, I will say that previous teams have had the same level of talent if not more. I view the Lions as a team that Madden has just kept down. They are a better team than their record has shown.
