Welcome to my SFL Draft Preview. The 2010 draft promises to be a great one and not just round 1 but round 2 and perhaps into round 3 could be full of starters and key contributors in this league.
Let me explain how the draft guide works. The players are broken down by position loosely by rank within the position. Within each player profile there will be the players age, height, and weight followed by their key attributes, pre-workout and obviously pre-skew. Then there is a current SFL player comparable. Sometimes the comparables are a little off due to the unique qualities and attributes of the draft eligible player. The final piece in the player profile is the comments. They are simply quick observations about the player. I hope you enjoy the draft guide and benefit from it as you draft tomorrow night!
QB’s
QB-Sam Bradford- 6’4”, 69 AWR, 94 THP, and 85 THA
Comparable: Kyle Orton- 49ers- 1.14.05
Comments: Bradford is the only draftable QB in my opinion. I’ve heard rumors the Bucs are going after Tebow, but he’ll need a nice skew to amount to anything substantial.
RB’s
HB-Ryan Matthews- 23 years old, 5’11”, 220 lbs., 89 SPD, 80 STR, 61 AWR, 91 AGI, 98 ACC, 78 CAR, and 81 BTK
Comparable: Musa Smith- Football Team- 1.25.03
Comments: Matthews looks like a stud. Is he Must Smith? Maybe not quite there though I will say it’s hard to ignore his great acceleration.
HB-Jonathan Dwyer- 21 years old, 5’11”, 235 lbs., 89 SPD, 75 STR, 57 AWR, 93 AGI, 90 ACC, 78 CAR, and 77 BTK
Comparable: Michael Turner- Jets- 1.22.04
Comments: Dwyer might go a bit under the radar but he has high upside. He’s a big back with high athleticism.
HB-Toby Gerhart- 23 years old, 6’1”, 235 lbs., 87 SPD, 66 STR, 59 AWR, 91 AGI, 92 ACC, 78 CAR, and 81 BTK
Comparable: Cedric Benson- Packers- 2.6.05
Comments: Gerhart isn’t at the same level of Matthews or Turner but he can still play. He’s got good size and quickness. Benson was not very successful in the league but I think Gerhart can be better.
HB-Anthony Dixon- 22 years old, 6’1”, 240 lbs., 89 SPD, 49 STR, 56 AWR, 97 AGI, 93 ACC, 75 CAR, and 80 BTK
Comparable: Rashard Mendenhall- Bengals- 3.5.08
Comments: If you like STR in a RB Dixon is not your guy, but if you ignore that his size and athleticism are excellent. I bet he goes higher than many might think he will.
HB-Mario Fannon- 24 years old, 5’11’, 226 lbs., 91 SPD, 54 STR, 49 AWR, 97 AGI, 96 ACC, 72 CAR, and 72 BTK
Comparable: Mike Goodson- Lions- 2.16.09
Comments: He’s not the type of guy I would gravitate toward, but Goodson put up good numbers in Detroit and Fannon is definitely a guy with similar attributes.
HB-Chris Ivory- 23 years old, 6’0”, 223 lbs., 87 SPD, 64 STR, 51 AWR, 95 AGI, 93 ACC, 69 CAR and 76 BTK
Comparable: J.J. Arrington- Dolphins- 3.9.05
Comments: Ivory is in the category of “well I have a 3rd round pick and I’m going to take a chance.” He’s a raw prospect, but has the ceiling to be a starter if he can develop.
WR’s
WR-Dez Bryant- 22 years old, 6’2”, 210 lbs., 99 SPD, 30 STR, 63 AWR, 96 AGI, 96 ACC, and 85 CTH
Comparable: Corey Rodgers- Chargers- 1.3.06
Comments: He’s the #1 pick in the draft and an elite talent. These types of WR’s pose problems for secondaries. The Cardinals are probably trying to figure out a way to add him as their fourth WR.
WR- Taylor Price- 23 years old, 6’1”, 212 lbs., 97 SPD, 77 STR, 48 AWR, 96 AGI, 96 ACC, and 77 CTH
Comparable: Jordy Nelson- Steelers- 1.1.08
Comments: Price is really, really good. I have to believe there are GM’s that know this. He’s a top 10 maybe even top 5 talent in this draft.
WR-Emmanuel Sanders- 23 years old, 5’11”, 180 lbs., 99 SPD, 50 STR, 54 AWR, 99 AGI, 99 ACC, and 78 CTH
Comparable: Bobby Wade- Patriots- 1.31.03
Comments: There would have been a time I would have ignored Sanders due to his height. But that is not longer the case. Max SPD, AGI, and ACC is hard to ignore.
WR-Victor Cruz- 22 years old, 6’0”, 204 lbs., 97 SPD, 51 STR, 54 AWR, 96 AGI, 96 ACC, and 82 CTH
Comparable: Andre Caldwell- Vikings- 1.18.08
Comments: The fourth WR in my rankings and I think he’s a lock for a top 20 pick. He’s taller than Sanders though not as quick.
WR-Arrelious Benn- 22 years old, 6'2”, 214 lbs., 95 SPD, 45 STR, 54 AWR, 91 AGI, 97 ACC, and 78 CTH
Comparable: Jason Hill- Broncos- 2.8.07
Comments: The elite WR’s just keep rolling in with Arrelious Benn. He’s a bit raw, but the physical attributes are there and he’s 6’2”.
WR-Brandon LaFell- 23 years old, 6’3”, 209 lbs., 95 SPD, 55 STR, 56 AWR, 93 AGI, 91 ACC, and 79 CTH
Comparable: Tyrone Calico- Falcons- 1.6.03
Comments: Lafell has both size and speed. He might go earlier than the Price, Sanders, or Cruz because of his height. But really any of these guys are capable of being #1 WR’s and that includes Lafell.
WR-Marc Mariani- 22 years old, 6’1”, 187 lbs., 94 SPD, 64 STR, 57 AWR, 95 AGI, 92 ACC, and 81 CTH
Comparable: Miles Austin- Bears- 1.26.06
Comments: Did you say you missed out on the top 6 WR’s in this draft? No worries, Mariani is still a legit offensive weapon.
WR-Riley Cooper- 23 years old, 6’3”, 215 lbs., 95 SPD, 60 STR, 51 AWR, 89 AGI, 91 ACC, and 73 CTH
Comparable: Jon Olinger- Eagles- 1.13.03
Comments: Cooper is #8 on the list. I know that’s unbelievable right? Because he’s very talented and 6’3”. He needs some time to develop which is why he is lower in the rankings.
WR-Antonio Bryant- 22 years old, 5’10”, 179 lbs., 96 SPD, 52 STR, 45 AWR, 91 AGI, 96 ACC, and 79 CTH
Comparable: Bethel Johnson- Panthers- 2.10.03
Comments: Bryant is a short, quick receiver who lacks AWR but we’ve seen several WR’s be successful without AWR.
WR-Eric Decker- 23 years old, 6’2”, 215 lbs., 94 SPD, 75 STR, 52 AWR, 88 AGI, 92 ACC, and 79 CTH
Comparable: Devin Thomas- Bears- 2.10.08
Comments: Decker is still another tall WR with good SPD. These guys will always have a place in Madden. In an ordinary year he would be a first round pick. With the talent in this draft, I’m not sure whether he will make it into round 1.
WR-Dezmon Briscoe- 21 years old, 6’3”, 200 lbs., 92 SPD, 71 STR, 49 AWR, 94 AGI, 94 ACC, and 75 CTH
Comparable: Laurent Robinson- Falcons- 1.14.07
Comments: Briscoe is one my favorite WR’s in this draft. I’m wondering about the ceiling for a 6’3” WR with really good AGI and ACC. It might be higher than other guys with more SPD.
WR-Demaryius Thomas- 22 years old, 6’3”, 230 lbs., 95 SPD, 44 STR, 59 AWR, 88 AGI, 88 ACC, and 82 CTH
Comparable: Justin Harper- Jets- 2.5.08
Comments: Thomas is 6’3”, has good hands, and a big reputation. He wouldn’t be high on my priority list but someone will take him.
WR-Kerry Meier- 23 years old, 6’2”, 224 lbs., 93 SPD, 46 STR, 55 AWR, 86 AGI, 94 ACC, and 71 CTH
Comparable: Maurice Mann- Eagles- 3.5.04
Comments: Meier is a good skew away from being elite and he’s way down the list of receivers in this draft.
WR-David Nelson- 23 years old, 6’5”, 215 lbs., 89 SPD, 51 STR, 49 AWR, 89 AGI, 88 ACC, and 77 CTH
Comparable: Chase Lyman- Football Team- 2.3.05
Comments: Nelson is the tallest WR in this draft but that’s about all he has going him. Still if you are 6’5”, 90 SPD, 90 AGI, and 90 ACC, you can be very successful.
TE’s
TE-Jermaine Gresham- 22 years old, 6’6”, 260 lbs., 88 SPD, 73 STR, 67 AWR, 86 AGI, 87 ACC, and 82 TAK
Comparable: Gary Barnidge- Eagles- 1.6.08
Comments: He’s a beast, plain and simple. Barnidge and Gresham are very similar though Gresham pre-skew is even a little better attribute-wise. He can dominate and dominate immediately.
TE-Jimmy Graham- 23 years old, 6’8”, 260 lbs., 82 SPD, 71 STR, 55 AWR, 79 AGI, 80 ACC, and 76 CTH
Comparable: Jerramy Stevens- N/A
Comments: If you miss out on the soon-to-be superstar Gresham, your consolation prize can be a 6’8”, 82 SPD TE who will be at least 2 inches taller than anyone that will cover him. He will literally look a man among midgets in the secondary.
TE-Rob Gronkowski- 21 years old, 6’6”, 260 lbs., 83 SPD, 69 STR, 70 AWR, 86 AGI, 84 ACC, and 76 CTH
Comparable: Jeremy Shockey- N/A
Comments: He’s Gronk, this is Madden, I’m sure he will be awesome. His attributes would sure lead us to believe that even without his name.
OT’s
LT-Russell Okung- 23 years old, 6’5”, 300 lbs., 72 SPD, 96 STR, 69 AWR, 74 AGI, 73 ACC, 92 PBK, and 88 RBK
Comparable: Joe Thomas- Buccaneers- 1.1.07
Comments: Okung will be a top 5 pick in this draft. He’s got really good physical attributes and he’s ready to go from week one.
LT-Vladimir Ducasse- 24 years old, 6’5”, 329 lbs., 67 SPD, 97 STR, 55 AWR, 77 AGI, 83 ACC, 86 PBK, and 83 RBK
Comparable: Brett Williams- Cardinals- 1.3.03
Comments: Ducasse has really elite physical attributes. They are noticeably better than Okung’s. But he lacks the AWR that Okung has so he will take a little while to get up to speed.
RT-Shaun Lauvao- 23 years old, 6’3”, 308 lbs., 69 SPD, 99 STR, 58 AWR, 76 AGI, 77 ACC, 79 PBK, and 80 RBK
Comparable: Tyson Clabo- Eagles- 1.3.04
Comments: If you are looking for the 99 STR offensive linemen Lauvao could be your man. He also has great other physical attributes. However, his blocking skills are an issue. He’s still worth a high pick though in my opinion.
RT-Jared Veldheer- 21 years old, 6’9”, 321 lbs., 65 SPD, 92 STR, 53 AWR, 73 AGI, 79 ACC, 83 PBK, and 83 RBK
Comparable: Todd Herremans- 1.15.05
Comments: There are GM’s that look for height in an OL. You won’t get better than the 6’9” Veldheer and he’s also good in his physical attributes.
RT-Bryan Bulaga- 24 years old, 6’6”, 312 lbs., 59 SPD, 96 STR, 55 AWR, 70 AGI, 79 ACC, 87 PBK, AND 83 RBK
Comparable: Sebastian Vollmer- Browns- 2.13.09
Comments: Bulaga will be very popular with many GM’s. His AWR is a weakness but outside of that he is very solid all-around.
RT-Trent Williams- 22 years old, 6’5”, 315 lbs., 61 SPD, 97 STR, 66 AWR, 68 AGI, 72 ACC, 85 PBK, and 89 RBK
Comparable: Clint Oldenburg- Jaguars- 1.15.07
Comments: Williams lacks the athleticism of many of the other OL. However, is has great STR and his progressible attributes are much further along than most of this class. He’s the type of guy that will go in the first round because some GM’s value the progressible attributes over the athleticism.
LT-Chris Scott- 22 years old, 6’5”, 341 lbs., 68 SPD, 93 STR, 54 AWR, 72 AGI, 76 ACC, 86 PBK, and 81 RBK
Comparable: Marcus Johnson- Saints- 1.11.05
Comments: Scott is a no-name OL but his attributes will do the talking in terms of his value. He and Bulaga are similar in many respects. It will be interesting to see who goes first. Bulaga has better STR and name recognition while Scott is considerably bigger.
RT-Marshall Newhouse- 23 years old, 6’4”, 330 lbs., 60 SPD, 97 STR, 52 AWR, 69 AGI, 71 ACC, 83 PBK, AND 86 RBK
Comparable: Ryan OCallaghan- Vikings- 1.11.06
Comments: Newhouse is almost certainly goes to slide due to his low AWR and not great athleticism. But he has decent blocking skills and great STR along with above average size.
LT-Sam Young- 23 years old, 6’7”, 318 lbs., 65 SPD, 98 STR, 56 AWR, 67 AGI, 74 ACC, 86 PBK, and 82 RBK
Comparable: Pete McMahon- Jets- 1.16.05
Comments: I probably should rank Young higher than Newhouse because in terms of his attributes he is just better. His best attribute is his 98 STR.
RT-Thomas Welch- 21 years old, 6’6”, 300 lbs.,67 SPD, 96 STR, 57 AWR, 73 AGI, 72 ACC, 80 PBK, and 77 RBK
Comparable: Fenuki Tupou- Jets- 2.3.09
Comments: Welch is the last of this group of OT’s. He is a raw prospect particularly as it relates to his blocking skills. He has pretty decent physical attributes including good SPD, STR, and AGI.
OG’s
RG-Mike Johnson- 22 years old, 6’6”, 305 lbs., 61 SPD, 92 STR, 61 AWR, 72 AGI, 72 ACC, 87 PBK and 87 RBK
Comparable: Nat Dorsey- Cardinals- 2.1.04
Comments: The offensive guards in this class are not nearly as strong as the offensive tackles are, but there are still a couple of players worth considering. Mike Johnson is at the front of this class. He’s a really good blocker with great agility.
RG-Reggie Stephens- 22 years old, 6’3”, 322 lbs., 59 SPD, 99 STR, 49 AWR, 65 AGI, 71 ACC, 81 PBK, and 83 RBK
Comparable: Rob Petitti- Vikings- 1.28.05
Comments: Stephens has elite level STR, 99 is as good as it gets. However, his AWR is dangerously low keeping him from being a great prospect.
RG-Jacques McClendon- 6’3”, 310 lbs., 64 SPD, 93 STR, 52 AWR, 66 AGI, 71 ACC, 84 PBK, and 83 RBK
Comparable: LG-Adam Snyder- Chiefs- 2.24.05
Comments: McClendon is a solid prospect but nothing really outstanding. His AWR is also on the low side.
RG-David Koelin- 22 years old, 6’5”, 279 lbs., 61 SPD, 96 STR, 55 AWR, 66 AGI, 71 ACC, 83 PBK, and 78 RBK
Comparable: RG-Josh Sitton- Bucs- 2.23.08
Comments: Sitton is the last of the guards highlighted in this draft preview. He’s got good STR but he lacks good size and run block.
C’s
C-Eric Olsen- 22 years old, 6’4”, 303 lbs., 66 SPD, 94 STR, 59 AWR, 69 AGI, 73 ACC, 81 PBK, and 83 RBK
Comparable: Duke Preston- Football Team- 2.5.05
Comments: Olsen leads a a pretty decent center class. Olsen an athletic center with good STR and decent overall progressible attributes.
C-Phil Costa- 23 years old, 6’3”, 302 lbs., 65 SPD, 91 STR, 52 AWR, 68 AGI, 75 ACC, 82 PBK, and 84 RBK
Comparable: Doug Datish- Cowboys- 5.24.07
Comments: If you don’t mind low AWR, it’s possible Phil Costa could be your guy. He’s got the best ACC in the class and good overall physical attributes.
C-Erik Cook- 22 years old, 6’6”, 308 lbs., 65 SPD, 94 STR, 57 AWR, 69 AWR, 72 ACC, 80 PBK, and 78 RBK
Comparable: Eric Cook- Bengals- 2.12.09
Comments: All three of these guys are pretty close in talent, but Cook is the least ready in terms of blocking.
DE’s
LE-Carlos Dunlop- 22 years old , 6’6”, 290 lbs., 82 SPD, 82 STR, 52 AWR, 75 AGI, 84 ACC, and 68 TAK
Comparable: Darryl Tapp- Bengals- 1.19.06
Comments: I see two potential first round picks at DE. Dunlop is the speed pass rusher with good SPD, STR, and ACC. He’s also got rare size to go along with his athleticism.
LE-Mike Neal- 23 years old, 6’3”, 262 lbs., 77 SPD, 92 STR, 40 AWR, 74 AGI, 79 ACC, and 68 TAK
Comparable: Jeremy Thompson- Ravens- 3.2.08
Comments: Neal is a power rusher with decent athleticism. His profile is becoming pretty popular in the league. Despite his low AWR, I think he will be very much valued.
LE-Jason Worilds- 23 years old, 6’3”, 252 lbs., 80 SPD, 85 STR, 49 AWR, 67 AGI, 83 TAK, and 67 TAK
Comparable: Dan Cody- Giants- 1.32.05
Comments: Worilds looks the part of a good DE. However, I think his low AGI will significantly impact his ability in the league.
DT’s
DT-Terrance Cody- 22 years old, 6’4”, 365lbs., 61 SPD, 88 STR, 55 AWR, 70 AGI, 73 ACC, and 80 TAK
Comparable: DT-Anthony Bryant- Ravens- 6.23.05
Comments: Cody is a huge NT with good athleticism. For GM’s that care about height and weight he will be particularly valuable. A 6’4”, 365 lb. DT is pretty rare and when you factor in his 61 SPD, 70 AGI, and 73 ACC you can see what he’d be high up on the list.
DT-Jared Odrick- 22 years old, 6’4”,298 lbs., 69 SPD, 84 STR, 58 AWR, 76 AGI, 78 ACC, and 83 TAK
Comparable: DT-Barry Cofield- Vikings- 2.24.06
Comments: Odrick might not initial look like much because of his low STR, but when you see his SPD, AGI, and ACC you realize he’s got potential. And he’s a good tackler as well.
DT-Tyson Alualu- 21 years old, 6’1”, 295 lbs., 73 SPD, 83 STR, 57 AWR, 82 AGI, 73 ACC, and 81 TAK
Comparable: DT-Dewayne White- Cardinals- 2.22.03
Comments: Alualu is the speed rushing DT in this draft. He’s got exceptional SPD and AGI. The problem I see even more so than his STR is his low ACC. Still I think he can be a pretty good player.
DT-Ndamukong Suh- 22 years old, 6’4”, 305 lbs., 64 SPD,85 STR, 64 AWR, 71 AGI, 75 ACC, and 82 TAK
Comparable: DT-Kyle Williams- Jaguars- 2.30.06
Comments: Suh has major name recognition and good but not great athleticism. And he has high end AWR and TAK as a rookie. The question will be can he get his STR up high enough to be effective.
DT-Dan Williams- 22 years old, 6’3”, 327 lbs., 49 SPD, 96 STR, 59 AWR, 67 AGI, 70 ACC, and 85 TAK
Comparable: DT-Vince Wilfork- Steelers- 1.9.04
Comments: Williams is a pure NT without the athleticism. He has above average size and great STR. I think he could be a popular pick in this draft.
OLB’s
LOLB-Keenan Clayton- 23 years old, 6’1”, 230 lbs., 87 SPD, 82 STR, 65 AWR, 86 AGI, 88 ACC, and 72 TAK
Comparable: ROLB-Anthony Waters- Jets- 1.27.07
Comments: Clayton doesn’t quite have the size of Anthony Waters but he has elite SPD, AGI, and ACC, pre-workout. Assuming his SPD is close to what we currently see, he should be a top 10 pick.
LOLB-Rennie Curran- 22 years old, 5’11”, 225 lbs., 84 SPD, 82 STR, 64 AWR, 86 AGI, 88 ACC, and 74 TAK
Comparable: LOLB-Robert James- Jets- 2.6.08
Comments: Curran is another potential stat, though he’s small for a LB. What he lacks in size, he makes up for in athleticism and STR. I think he’s a first round pick as well.
LOLB-Navorro Bowman- 22 years old, 21 years old, 6’1”, 232 lbs., 83 SPD, 81 STR, 67 AWR, 78 AGI, 87 ACC, and 77 TAK
Comparable: LOLB-Brian Smith- Eagles- 1.29.07
Comments: Bowman is more of the prototypical OLB. He is similar in attributes to Smith, though Smith is considerably taller.
ROLB-Rodrrick Muckelroy- 23 years old, 6’2”, 235 lbs., 86 SPD, 69 STR, 63 AWR, 83 AGI, 83 ACC, and 79 TAK
Comparable: ROLB-Clay Matthews- Bears- 1.18.09
Comments: Matthews had a pretty good season in 2009 which should give hope to Muckelroy and they are very similar players. I think he’s the fourth OLB taken in the draft.
ROLB-Jason Pierre-Paul- 22 years old, 6’5”, 275 lbs., 77 SPD, 83 STR, 72 AWR, 80 AGI, 85 ACC, and 83 TAK
Comparable: LOLB-Brian Cushing- Jets- 2.19.09
Comments: Pierre-Paul is unlike any other OLB we’ve seen. He will be the biggest OLB in the league. The big question will be what his SPD skew looks like. He could be really good if he gets a favorable skew there.
LOLB-Eric Norwood- 23 years old, 6’0”, 252 lbs., 82 SPD, 71 STR, 70 AWR, 85 AGI, 83 ACC, and 78 TAK
Comparable: ROLB-Chad Greenway- Steelers- 2.8.06
Comments: Norwood is a solid OLB who can be a starter in the league. But he has several OLB’s on front of him in this draft.
MLB’s
MLB-Pat Angerer- 22 years old, 6’0”, 235 lbs., 84 SPD, 85 STR, 61 AWR, 88 AGI, 89 ACC, and 81 TAK
Comparable: MLB-E.J. Henderson- Vikings- 1.8.03
Comments: Angerer is a stud MLB, the type of guy you can build your defense around. Detractors may target his lower AWR or is smaller size, but there’s no doubt his physical attributes are generationally elite.
MLB-Brandon Spikes- 22 years old, 6’3”, 256 lbs., 85 SPD, 69 STR, 72 AWR, 85 AGI, 84 ACC, and 85 TAK
Comparable: Leon Williams- Colts- 1.8.06
Comments: Spikes is a big MLB still with good athleticism and great AWR and TAK combo. His one flaw is his STR.
MLB-Nate Tripplett- 22 years old, 6’3”, 247 lbs., 81 SPD, 83 STR, 68 AWR, 79 AGI, 85 ACC, and 86 TAK
Comparable: MLB-Jonathan Vilma- Bills- 1.12.04
Comments: Triplett is another viable option on the interior. He doesn’t have quite the athleticism but he’s strong, smart, and a great tackler.
MLB-Sean Lee- 23 years old, 6’2”, 236 lbs., 85 SPD, 73 STR, 69 AWR, 79 AGI, 84 ACC, and 85 TAK
Comparable: MLB-Courtney Watson- Titans- 1.24.04
Comments: Lee is a scrappy MLB with good range, AWR, and TAK. He’s an older rookie but can play immediately.
MLB-Darryl Washington- 22 years old, 6’2”, 234 lbs., 84 SPD, 75 STR, 68 AWR, 80 AGI, 85 ACC, and 83 TAK
Comparable: Abdul Hodge- Lions- 2.3.06
Comments: Washington and Lee are very similar players and that’s a good thing. I get the impression most teams have good MLB’s. But if your team didn’t, they could get one or two in this draft without too many problems.
MLB-Jamar Chaney- 22 years old, 6’1”, 240 lbs., 81 SPD, 83 STR, 69 AWR, 78 AGI, 84 ACC, and 81 TAK
Comparable: MLB-Scott McKillop- Seahawks- 2.4.09
Comments: Chaney is similar to Triplett. He’s more than strong MLB with good AWR.
MLB-Carl Ihenacho- 23 years old, 6’2”, 255 lbs., 83 SPD, 71 STR, 77 AWR, 84 AGI, 81 ACC, and 70 TAK
Comparable: Dan Connor- Browns- 1.28.08
Comments: A 77 AWR MLB as a rookie? That would be Carl Ihenacho. If you can deal with his very low TAK, then by all means go for it.
MLB-Rolando McClain- 22 years old, 6’4”, 256 lbs., 79 SPD, 80 STR, 73 AWR, 78 AGI, 81 ACC, and 89 TAK
Comparable: MLB-Curtis Lofton- Chargers- 2.18.08
Comments: McClain is the least athletic of the MLB’s in this draft guide but he’s big and can tackle very well.
CB’s
CB-Jerome Murphy- 23 years old, 6’1”, 185 lbs., 96 SPD, 62 STR, 63 AWR, 93 AGI, 97 ACC, 71 CTH, and 48 TAK
Comparable: Corey Webster- Bears- 1.13.05
Comments: Murphy is easily the best CB in this draft. He’s a legit CB prospect with good height and catch to go along with great athleticism. He should be a top 5 pick.
CB-Sam Shields- 23 years old, 5’11”, 178 lbs., 95 SPD, 62 STR, 61 AWR, 86 AGI, 93 ACC, 66 CTH, and 59 TAK
Comparable: Corey Graham- Bears- 1.5.07
Comments: Shields is not a bad consolation prize. He reminds me of Corey Graham of the Bears who has turned in to a very good CB.
CB-Walter Thurmond- 23 years old, 5’11”, 178 lbs., 95 SPD, 41 STR, 55 AWR, 90 AGI, 97 ACC, 56 CTH, and 60 TAK
Comparable: Vontae Davis- Lions- 1.9.09
Comments: Thurmond is a similar player to Shields but not quite as good, though he does have better ACC than Shields does.
CB-Kareem Jackson- 22 years old, 5’11”, 192 lbs., 93 SPD, 60 STR, 59 AWR, 91 AGI, 96 ACC, 64 CTH, and 60 TAK
Comparable: Johnathan Joseph- Patriots- 1.31.06
Comments: Jackson is another CB like Shields and Thurmond with a little less speed. Good overall player though.
CB-Akasi Owusu-Ansah- 21 years old, 6’1”, 205 lbs., 91 SPD, 62 STR, 56 AWR, 92 AGI, 94 ACC, 64 CTH, and 62 TAK
Comparable: Marcus Maxey- Ravens- 1.5.06
Comments: Owusu-Ansah is a little like Maxey, but Maxey has better speed.
CB-Joe Haden- 21 years old, 5’11”, 185 lbs., 91 SPD, 52 STR, 69 AWR, 88 AGI, 92 ACC, 71 CTH, and 67 TAK
Comparable: Antrel Rolle- Jaguars- 1.9.05
Comments: Hayden has great AWR, CTH, and TAK. What he lacks is the high end SPD and better AGI.
CB-Nolan Carroll- 21 years old, 6’1”, 205 lbs., 91 SPD, 51 STR, 68 AWR, 85 AGI, 92 ACC, 66 CTH, and 63 TAK
Comparable: Carlos Rogers- Cardinals- 1.22.05
Comments: Nolan Carrol is similar to Joe Hayden in that they both lack in SPD and AGI. However, both have the AWR to join a secondary and contribute right away.
CB-Dominique Franks- 22 years old, 6’0”, 192 lbs., 91 SPD, 65 STR, 55 AWR, 87 AGI, 95 ACC, 76 CTH, and 57 TAK
Comparable: Marcus McCauley- Bills- 2.22.07
Comments: Franks is the lowest rated CB in this draft guide but he is still a pretty good. His elite level CTH will be attractive to GM’s.
FS’s
FS-Eric Berry- 21 years old, 5’11”, 203 lbs., 93 SPD, 66 STR, 69 AWR, 93 AGI, 93 ACC, 59 CTH, and 67 TAK
Comparable: SS-Dominique Barber- Cardinals- 1.8.08
Comments: You gotta love how good this free safety class is. There are four guys that are worthy of a first round pick in a normal draft. Berry leads the way with off-the-charts athleticism with great AWR.
FS-Nate Allen- 22 years old, 6’1”, 206 lbs., 91 SPD, 58 STR, 62 AWR, 99 AGI, 94 ACC, 56 CTH, and 65 TAK
Comments: If you are hesitant to put a 5’11” guy in as your safety, then you can pivot to Nate Allen who stands at 6’1” but still with great athleticism and particularly AGI.
Comparable: O.J. Otogwe- Seahawks- 1.7.05
FS-Kam Chancellor- 22 years old, 6’3”, 232 lbs., 90 SPD, 61 STR, 62 AWR, 86 AGI, 90 ACC, 58 CTH, and 60 TAK
Comparable: Ben Emmanuel- Dolphins- 1.17.05
Comments: If 6’1” is still not tall enough for you, then you can move to Kat Chancellor who is an intimidating 6’3”, 232 lbs.. Still with 90 SPD and 90 ACC pre-skew. I think all three should be first round picks.
FS-Earl Thomas- 21 years old, 5’10”, 195 lbs., 90 SPD, 63 STR, 57 AWR, 96 AGI, 97 ACC, 66 CTH, and 62 TAK
Comparable: Mike Doss- Saints- 1.21.03
Comments: Earl Thomas is a short FS but he has elite level AGI and ACC. He should be able to cover the field like few others. But his size will be a deterrent for some GM’s.
FS-Morgan Burnett- 22 years old, 6’1”, 210 lbs., 86 SPD, 75 STR, 63 AWR, 93 AGI, 89 ACC, 53 CTH, and 70 TAK
Comparable: Roman Harper- Patriots- 1.14.06
Comments: In a normal year Burnett would be one of the best FS’s on the board. He has the great STR some GM’s are said to covet but he lacks both SPD and CTH that others in this class possess.
FS-Taylor Mays- 22 years old, 6’4”, 224 lbs., 84 SPD, 57 STR, 65 AWR, 84 AGI, 86 ACC, 57 CTH, and 68 TAK
Comparable: Aaron Rouse- Jets- 1.30.07
Comments: Aaron Rouse is the perfect comparison here. Mays is unbelievably tall but he’s also lacking the SPD, AGI, and ACC that others have. But his size in enough or GM’s to select him in the first couple of rounds.
SS’s
SS- Chad Jones- 21 years old, 6’3”, 225 lbs., 85 SPD, 62 STR, 66 AWR, 81 AGI, 90 ACC, 68 CTH, and 74 TAK
Comparable: Bernard Pollard- Broncos- 3.29.06
Comments: Chad Jones is the more athletic version of Taylor Mays at the SS position. He’s a good player who may get overlooked because of the talent at FS.
SS- Larry Asante- 22 years old, 6’1”, 215 lbs., 87 SPD, 55 STR, 65 AWR, 92 AGI, 89 ACC, 66 CTH and 70 TAK
Comparable: Michael Huff- Texans- 3.22.06
Comments: Asante is not flashy but he is solid. His AWR, CTH, and TAK are also very good for a rookie.
K’s
K-Andrew Jensen- 23 years old, 6’2”, 198 lbs., 53 AWR, 94 THP, and 88 THA
Comparable: Taylor Melhaff- Rams- 5.13.08
Comments: The only kicker or punter highlighted in this draft guide is Andrew Jensen. This guy would be a guaranteed first rounder if the Seahawks weren’t already set at the position.
There are other players that could have made this list. In fact there are probably close to a 100 players worth being profiled. However, time does not allow for that extensive of a guide. The depth of this draft class is very impressive and we should be able to look back at this draft as a foundational draft for years to come. Good luck to all the GM’s as they draft!
