2011 SFL Draft Value Picks- NFC
Cowboys
2.14- C-Stefan Wisniewski— 23 years old, 6’3”, 298 lbs., 65 SPD, 90 STR, 57 AWR, 70 AGI, 75 ACC, 85 PBK, and 85 RBK
Wisneiwski was the second center off the board in this draft but probably the most ready to play in 2011. His blocking skills are what gives him the edge. He also has good overall athleticism just lacks maybe a point or two in strength.
Giants
1.22- MLB-Kelvin Sheppard— 23 years old, 6’3”, 239 lbs., 85 SPD, 75 STR, 69 AWR, 83 AGI, 86 ACC, and 81 TAK
I don’t love to put 1st round picks in these articles. And I don’t love to put MLB’s in the early rounds of the draft here. In both cases because there should be value because a 1st round pick is valuable and the best players should be round 1 and MLB’s have always tended to slide in these drafts particularly after the first couple of seasons. Having said all that, I still like the value of Sheppard here.
Eagles
4.7- ROLB-Justin Houston- 23 years old, 6’3”, 259 lbs., 83 SPD, 74 STR, 65 AWR, 83 AGI, 82 ACC, and 77 TAK
Houston is a brilliant get in the early 4th round. His blend of size and speed is excellent and his AWR allows him to play more quickly. He skewed nicely which helps. Teams that did not do a private workout were out of the loop in terms of his immediate value.
4.17- RT-Joseph Barksdale- 22 years old, 6’5”, 315 lbs., 60 SPD, 88 STR, 57 AWR, 66 AGI, 72 ACC, 83 PBK, and 83 RBK
I like Barksdale here in the middle of the 4th round. He needs some progression yes, but he’s not that much worse than guys taken in the 2nd round and that means he’s a value pick.
Bears
4.28- LT-Marcus Cannon- 23 years old, 6’6”, 335 lbs., 61 SPD, 98 STR, 53 AWR, 69 AGI, 71 ACC, 79 PBK, and 75 RBK
The Bears were already picking late in each round by virtue of their 2010 finish. But to get a guy like Cannon in the 4th round and late 4th round is really great value. Cannon has great size and strength. But he also skewed well in acceleration which allows him to be sufficient in athleticism. Now his non-physical attributes need work, but over at LT he should be able to progress without much of an issue.
5.28- C-Zach Williams- 23 years old, 6’3”, 315 lbs., 60 SPD, 96 STR, 58 AWR, 67 AGI, 72 ACC, 77 PBK, and 78 RBK
The Bears come right back in round 5 and grab a great value pick in Zach Williams. He’s almost the same exact profile as Cannon just at the center position. Great strength for a center plus sufficient athleticism. He just needs to progress in the non-physical attributes. Now the center position doesn’t tend to hide these flaws as well as LT, but he still is potential starter in this league.
Lions
2.13- CB-Jahlil Brown- 22 years old, 6’1”, 210 lbs,, 93 SPD, 56 STR, 47 AWR, 86 AGI, 93 ACC, 64 CTH, and 76 CTH
I debated about whether or not to include Brown in this article mainly because of his 47 AWR. But if you remove his AWR which I know is not easy to do at a position that values it so much, you will find great value in the middle of the 2nd round of a draft where CB’s went off the board a little earlier than they maybe should have. He could easily be a 6’1”, 95 SPD, 95 ACC CB with great catch and tackle.
Packers
2.12- RT-Derek Sherrod- 22 years old, 6’6”, 305 lbs., 65 SPD, 94 STR, 59 AWR, 71 AGI, 74 ACC, 86 PBK, and 85 RBK
The Packers didn’t have many picks in this draft but they used 2.12 well to pick up RT-Sherrod. He’s not going to be a star in this league but he’s good and he can contribute fairly quickly.
Buccaneers
1.13- LOLB-Aldon Smith- 6’5”, 245 lbs., 20 years old, 83 SPD, 77 STR, 69 AWR, 86 AGI, 86 ACC, and 82 TAK
I like this pick and I think the whole league does. And he’s in this article because he has great value. The skew in speed was really kind and makes him very good. The downside to Smith is that he will not get 2nd year progression. Because of his age, size, and athleticism combo I think he’s tremendous value even without the 2nd year progression.
7.21- MLB-Jacquian Williams- 22 years old, 6’3”, 224 lbs., 79 SPD, 76 STR, 63 AWR, 80 AGI, 83 ACC, and 78 TAK
If you can get any meaningful contribution out of a 7th round pick it’s a great pick. I think Williams can be a backup MLB in this league and that would mean he can contribute. Therefore, making him a value pick.
Falcons
2.16- WR-Titus Young- 22 years old, 5’11”, 170 lbs., 99 SPD, 29 STR, 54 AWR, 97 AGI, 97 ACC, and 75 CTH
The Falcons had a good 2011 draft. I don’t think there are any superstars but they have three players that are excellent value picks. The first of those three is WR-Titus Young. He’s a speedster who will get to 99 SPD, 99 AGI, and 99 ACC. In Nic’s offense this will mean production.
3.6- Adrian Clayborn- 20 years old, 6’3”, 285 lbs., 72 SPD, 88 STR, 47 AWR, 79 AGI, 78 ACC, and 68 TAK
If you take away his AWR and TAK, you might be able to make a case that Clayborn is a late first round selection. Now obviously you can’t take away his AWR and TAK but still to get a player of his caliber in round 3 is doing great draft work.
3.11- RG-Caleb Schlauderaff- 22 years old, 6’4”, 302 lbs., 59 SPD, 95 STR, 61 AWR, 69 AGI, 74 ACC, 87 PBK, and 87 RBK
Someone said it earlier in Discord or in the forums. I don’t think there is much of a different in terms of player value between Jan Reid and Caleb Schlauderaff. I think that tells you the value of Schlauderaff here at 3.11. He’s going to be good and I think he can play right away.
Panthers
2.19- DT-Phil Taylor- 23 years old, 6’4”, 355 lbs., 60 SPD, 85 STR, 60 AWR, 70 AGI, 78 ACC, and 81 TAK
The Panthers had a solid, unspectacular draft. This means I don’t think they made mistakes but I also don’t think their draft stood out. Taylor is the one guy in their draft with underrated potential. If he can compensate for his low strength he could be sneaky good.
Saints
1.24- HB-Mikel LeShoure- 22 years old, 5’11”, 206 lbs., 93 SPD, 80 STR, 55 AWR, 94 AGI, 94 ACC, 74 CAR, and 82 TAK
I hesitate in include LeShoure here because he is a HB taken in the 1st round. But man would you look at his physical attributes, they are pretty staggering. The Saints like to run the football with a two RB set and LeShoure certainly should be one of them.
49ers
3.2- FS-Chris Conte- 21 years old, 6’2”, 205 lbs., 89 SPD, 61 STR, 58 AWR, 88 AGI, 89 ACC, 60 CTH, and 72 TAK
Conte is a guy who skewed down a bit but still is worth the value of an early 3rd round pick. After one year of progression he will be at 90 in both speed and acceleration and he has good overall attributes to go along with being 6’2”.
4.2- RT-James Carpenter- 22 years old, 6’5”, 305 lbs., 66 SPD, 96 STR, 59 AWR, 72 AGI, 77 ACC, 83 PBK, and 85 RBK
Now I get Carpenter was the draft gem, but the very fact that he was the draft gem and he received upgraded attributes makes him a value pick. Peter’s excitement on Discord is well understood as he has found a OT with an early 4th round pick.
Cardinals
1.11- MLB-Chris White- 23 years old, 6’3”, 244 lbs., 87 SPD, 84 STR, 64 AWR, 84 AGI, 88 ACC, and 78 TAK
I said this about Sheppard earlier, I tend to resist putting 1st round MLB’s in these articles but man is Chris White good. He’s close to Alfred Fincher talent in terms of physical attributes and that makes him elite. Any time you can get elite talent outside the top 10 you have a value pick.
6.12- LOLB-Jeremy Beal- 23 years old, 6’3”, 260 lbs., 81 SPD, 69 STR, 58 AWR, 81 AGI, 81 ACC, and 79 TAK
Oh and the Cardinals came back in the middle of round 6 for another LB value with Jeremy Beal. This guy is probably only a reserve OLB, but if the Cards GM puts activity points in him he can be at a starter level.
Seahawks
3.3- LG-Rodney Hudson- 22 years old, 6’2”, 288 lbs., 63 SPD, 94 STR, 54 AWR, 69 AGI, 74 ACC, and 85 PBK, and 90 RBK
The Seahawks have their own style of drafting which has worked for them over the years. In the 3rd round they grabbed Hudson who has great blocking skills and above average physical attributes. He is undersized which is why he probably made it to the 3rd round but he’s a good value pick here.
