PICK | TEAM | PLAYER | ANALYSIS |
1.01 | | WR Josh Gordon | The Lions need more targets for Sam Bradford to throw to. Gordon looks to be one of the fastest of the wide receivers in this draft, but he'll need a good offensive scheme to change Detroit's fortunes. |
1.02 | | CB Casey Heyward | There is a lot of chatter about this pick being Luke Keuchly, but I think GM Apolo Shapiro will take the gamble that Keuchly is available at 1.05. Heyward is a stud cornerback that will help Tennessee. |
1.03 | | WR Alshon Jeffery | This selection reminds me a lot of the Dwayne Jarrett pick from a few years back. GM Norbert Huszti has cherished Jarrett and Jeffery would provide a solid 1-2 punch for their quarterback. |
1.04 | | CB Stephon Gilmore | The Chargers desperately need a young cornerback and though I know other players have been mentioned, but I think that Gilmore is the perfect fit for the Chargers right now. He lands in San Diego. |
1.05 | | MLB Luke Keuchly | Apolo takes a risk and it pays off for the Titans who are able to add the stud MLB they covet in this draft. He's a good fit for them as well whether they go 3-4 or 4-3 (I can't quite tell). |
1.06 | | QB Chandler Harnish | This may come as a surprise with Mark Sanchez just being re-upped in Tennesee, but Harnish looks to be a generational talent. Having a backup quarterback is important and I imagine we'll see a time split similar to what we saw in Chicago. |
1.07 | | LT Matt Kalil | Carolina is still rebuilding so taking the best player available is always smart. I think Kalil is the right selection and he will eventually move to right tackle to protect Drew Stanton. |
1.08 | | WR Brian Quick | The window is closing for the Saints so adding a deep threat for David Greene might be their best solution right now. Quick is fast, tall and should be a stud for seasons to come if given a chance. |
1.09 | | DT Brandon Thompson | Thompson looks really good and seems like he would fill in nicely as a starter on an already stacked Arizona Cardinals roster. It's nasty they get to add another starter but with GM Gary Cohen planning to leave after this season, he'll take BPA. |
1.10 | | LOLB Nigel Bradham | Having missed out on Chandler Harnish, the Bills decide to add some talent to their defense in an attempt to get back to the big game. Maybe Kaepernick will be the answer, or a quarterback they draft in the second round. |
1.11 | | RT Riley Reiff | The Chiefs have been anemic on offense and need to shore up their offensive line. Reiff is probably the second best offensive lineman in the draft, so GM Justin Herr will draft him and start him right away. |
1.12 | | CB Chris Greenwood | The Bengals need a solid long-term option across from Jerome Murphy. Greenwood is a bit of a steal at this juncture and would be a great CB2 to cover the right side of the field. GM Brady Tinnin rushes to the podium. |
1.13 | | LOLB Bobby Wagner | It'll be odd to see Terrell Manning in a 49ers jersey, but I think it's the right selection for a 49ers team that I believe will be a championship contender in 2012. Manning is tough and exactly what the team needs. |
1.14 | | WR Greg Childs | Calvin Johnson is on the trade block. That tells me Miami will likely get an offer that is too good to refuse and they'll need to replace him. Childs is a solid option to do so and he's only 22. |
1.15 | | RE Malik Jackson | With their fourth pick in the top half of the first round, the Tennessee Titans add another defensive player, this time an edge rusher that should be able to make a difference (especially with a good skew). |
1.16 | | LT Brandon Mosely | They just re-upped on Brett Williams, but the time will come to replace some of the offensive line. I think Denver decides to go with a young offensive lineman that can be a stud on their team for a long time to come. |
1.17 | | LOLB Melvin Ingram | It's a shocker that Ingram lasts this long, but the OLB position is often devalued in the first round of the draft (many are taken in the 2nd and 3rd rounds). Ingram will work nicely for a Jacksonville team that is seeing a resurgence. |
1.18 | | CB Josh Norman | Seattle needs to add some more secondary and Norman seems like the type of player that Seattle would like to add. He'll start right away and help try to get GM Rock Hewko to keep his job in Seattle. |
1.19 | | LOLB Terrell Manning | This is tough, but I think the Lions will elect to add to their defense with this selection instead of additional offensive weapons for Sam Bradford. Manning is the best remaining outside linebacker. |
1.20 | | TE Coby Fleener | GM William Cook rushes to the podium and takes Fleener who will be the future of America's Team -- a team that has gone far too long with Alge Crumpler and needs to make a serious change at the position. |
1.21 | | QB Kirk Cousins | Call me crazy, but I think the Redskins elect to take a new signal caller here. Palmer is getting older and it's time to groom the future of the organization. Cousins seems like the #2 QB in the class. |
1.22 | | HB Trent Richardson | One thing the Cardinals have never been able to solve is their halfback. Trent Richardson may be just the player to change things up for the team and give them a consistent option for years to come. |
1.23 | | WR Michael Floyd | New England faded down the stretch last season and they feel like they have unfinished business. It's time to add more threats for Tom Brady before he retires in a couple season (this really is fantasy). |
1.24 | | SS Brandon Taylor | At this point, it's mostly about adding the best talent available for a team that will see a change in leadership at the end of the year. Brandon Taylor looks like a great strong safety. |
1.25 | | MLB Vontaze Burfict | GM Darryl Breckheimer talks about Jason Phillips, but it's all smoke. Burfict would be a great addition to the Colts roster and I fully expect Indianapolis to go middle linebacker in this draft. |
1.26 | | QB Brock Osweiler | Pennington is playing his last year in a Raiders uniform. I know the heir apparent is Chad Henne, but bringing in someone like Osweiler might be a smart move if he has a longer window to succeed in Oakland. |
1.27 | | RE Michael Brockers | The Packers have Jay Moore on one side, but they lack a threat on the right side (someone extremely athletic, not a speed rusher). Brockers likely becomes the answer to that problem and starts for them immediately. |
1.28 | | DT Fletcher Cox | Okay people, stop trading your picks to Apolo. We saw him do this once before and it burned us all. That being said, Fletcher Cox is a great selection for Tennessee here and I wouldn't be surprised to see it made. |
1.29 | | MLB Tank Carder | The Cardinals could use someone behind Chris White at MLB -- really, I'm strecthing. This is a BPA selection and Carder is the top of the board right now. More depth for the Cardinals. |
1.30 | | C Ben Jones | I have no idea what direction the Vikings will go, but I could see them trying to add some youth in the middle of their offensive line. Ben Jones is my preferred center in the class, so he gets the nod. |
1.31 | | WR Marvin McNutt | The Bills are going to take a quarterback in the 2nd round, so they need to get him a wide receiver before it's too late. Marvin McNutt is tall and well-rounded and should be a really fun player to watch succeed in Buffalo. |
1.32 | | ROLB Demario Davis | The CHAMPS add some depth to their roster by bringing in Demario Davis, the best available outside linebacker left. He's a very sexy player and that's exactly what the Bears want if they're going to get more trophies. |
