2013 SFL Draft: Top 3, Bottom 3 & Potential Draft Gems
Until recently I’ve not paid a ton of attention to the top of the SFL drafts. Don’t get me wrong, I love the draft! I simply used it in the past to stock up on backups, especially when it comes to positions such as offensive line, defensive line and both safety positions. With the changes to regression, which by the way I have came to like much better than I thought I would, I think it is clear 1st and 2nd round picks are so much more valuable now to the point where to have long term success I think a GM has to be aware of what and who are in the draft. With that said, here is my take at who the top players are at each position but with a twist: I have included the bottom dwellers at each position and even a section for Draft Gems just to be a bit different. Now it is time for you draft mockers to get busy and post those mock drafts!
QB’s- Top 3
1. Matt Barkley- 22 years old, 6’3” & 227 #- USC | 58 AWR, 87 THA, 97 THP, 92 INJ, 94 TGH
Barkley has nice size, great arm strength and by far the best THA of the class. Coming in at 2nd in the class with AWR, I do not think it is even close, Barkley will be the 1st QB drafted this year. Also, if you need a punter or kicker, he has 96 KPW and 88 KAC!
2. Mike Glennon- 21 years old, 6’7” & 225 #- NC State | 55 AWR, 86 THA, 94 THP, 99 INJ, 95 TGH
Glennon has amazing size at 6’7”, he is only 21 years old, good THA and THP but that dreadful rookie AWR. I will be honest, I had heard how horrible this QB class was. I think that has been overblown now that I have looked at the top 3 at the position.
3. Ryan Nassib- 22 years old, 6’2” & 227 #- Syracuse | 54 AWR, 83 THA, 92 THP, 99 INJ, 90 TGH
Nassib, in my opinion is definitely a couple notches below Barkley but he is not too bad. He has good size, about average rookie QB AWR, a tad on the lower end of THA but adequate THP. I think GM’s could do worse and expect Nassib to be a smart pick by some GM as long as he is not drafted too early.
QB’s- Bottom 3
Worst- Brad Sorensen- 22 years old, 6’4”, 229 # | 54 AWR, 74 THA, 86 THP, 99 INJ, 99 TGH
Sorensen would great at throwing the ball…… to the wrong team. One thing is certain though, he will play and not get hurt with those 99’s in INJ & TGH.
2nd worse- Sage Renfree- 22 years old, 6’3” & 219 # | 51 AWR, 74 THA, 90 THP, 96 INJ, 93 TGH
Renfree might not look as bad as some but when you factor in he has 67 SPD & 65 ACC meaning he could end up a scrambler with 74 THA, you have the perfect horrible QB. You know, the kind of guy you would expect to be on a team ran by Will Cook.
3rd worse- Matt McGloin- 23 years old- 6’2” & 218 # | 54 AWR, 79 THA, 87 THP, 99 INJ, 99 TGH
Congrats on your suckage Mr. McGloin, you made the list.
Draft Gem Candidate: EJ Manuel- 22 years old- 6’5” & 237 #- Florida State | 56 AWR, 78 THA, 99 THP, 95 INJ, 95 TGH
Sure he is going to be a scrambler with that 72 SPD but if Manuel could somehow end up as the Draft Gem he goes from barely roster QB3 to potential franchise QB.

RB’s Top 3
1. Latavius Murray- 22 years old, 6’3” & 230 #- UCF | 92 SPD, 75 STR, 90 AGI, 92 ACC, 87 CAR, 67 BTK
Murray might be something special. The longer I look at him, the better he gets. First off, perfect size then followed by good SPD, AGI, ACC & STR. He then has 77 CTH, 97 STA, 96 INJ and 99 TGH. I would say this guy has potential rookie of the year potential.
2 Eddie Lacy- 23 years old, 5’11” & 250 #- Alabama | 92 SPD, 73 STR, 91 AGI, 94 ACC, 88 CAR, 89 BT
Lacy’s size resembles a bowling ball. If that description is accurate it will be perfect for some SFL GM. Here is a guy who even though is round has 90+ AGI and comes with CAR and BTK nearly at 90 as a rookie. He also boasts 95 STA & 94 TGH.
Le’Veon Bell- 21 years old, 6’1” & 225 #- Michigan State | 93 SPD, 58 STR, 93 AGI, 94 ACC, 85 CAR, 69 BTK
Bell is another RB who has great size and athletism with 93 AGI, 94 ACC and an 82 CTH which is better than some WR’s. There are some GM’s who might be able to get a little something extra out of him as a WR3, WR4 or WR5.
RB’s- Bottom 3
Worst- Zac Stacy- 22 years old, 5’9” & 224 #- | 77 SPD, 66 STR, 85 AGI, 85 ACC, 78 Car, 74 BTK
If someone finds something positive about this guy other than his 99 INJ and 95 TGH please let me know.
2nd worse- Andre Ellington- 24 years old, 5’9” & 199 # | 84 SPD, 69 STR, 89 AGI, 90 ACC, 81 CAR, 61 BTK
You earned your way onto this list Mr. Ellington. The only good thing about you? That is easy, you are better than Zac Stacy
3rd worse- Chris Thompson- 22 years old, 5’8” & 195 # | 82 SPD, 64 STR, 88 AGI, 86 ACC, 66 CAR, 64 BTK
Mr. Thompson, you would look great starting for the Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints or Atlanta Falcons.
Draft Gem Candidate: I would have said Montee Ball but I don’t think he makes it to the 4th round so I will go with Mike James- 24 years old, 5’10 & 223 #- Miami | 84 SPD, 75 STR, 85 AGI, 88 ACC, 71 CAR & 72 BTK. James has unique CTH with 86 and good JMP with 79 so perhaps he, like Bell could make for a good receiving RB if he were to be hit with a nice bump due to the Draft Gem selection.
----------
WR’s- Top 3
1. Justin Hunter- 20 years old, 6’4” & 198 #- Tennessee | 95 SPD, 98 ACC, 96 AGI, 63 CTH, AWR 61, JMP 86
Okay, he has flaws such as his 63 CTH but this kid (yes, kid as he is only 20 years old) has the physicals to be great. I can tell you he will not make it past 1.5 on the opening night of the draft. Yes, I added JMP to tick some of you guys off. I believe in it and since this is my article, it is making the list!
2. Cordarelle Patterson- 21 years old, 6’2” & 216 #- Tennessee | 94 SPD, 98 ACC, 97 AGI, 72 CTH, 52 AWR, 84 JMP
I do not know for sure if Patterson really belongs here, so if you do not agree do your own article. What I do know if I like has 6’2” frame versus the other 6’ or 6’1” guys. This guy is a day 1 starter in my mind. Once he gets that AWR up he will be a force.
3. DeAndre Hopkins- 22 years old, 6’1” & 214 #- Clemson | 96 SPD, 97 ACC, 96 AGI, 82 CTH, 63 AWR, 89 JMP
I gave Hopkins the edge over guys like Adam Thielen, Corey Fuller, Robert Woods and Terrance Williams. Woods and Williams might end up better WR’s but I can not get over their extremely low STR.
WR’s- Bottom 3
Worst- Ace Sanders- 21 years old, 5’7” & 181 # | 90 SPD, 95 ACC, 91 AGI, 82 CTH, 51 AWR, 75 JMP.
Sure, he has 90’s in SPD, AGI & ACC but the guy is 5’7”. In order for me to even look this guys way he would have needed to be 99 SPD, 99 AGI & 99 ACC.
2nd worse- Marquise Goodwin- 24 years old, 5’9” & 185 # | 88 SPD, 88 ACC, 92 AGI, 62 CTH, 57 AWR & 93 JMP
I like his JMP but that is it. He is destined to be a San Diego Charger.
3rd worse- Tavon Auston- 22 years olf, 5’9” & 174 # | 92 SPD, 90 ACC, 90 AGI, 72 CTH, 55 AWR, 86 JMP
As Will Cooke once sang, “Don’t want no short short man”. That is all. Austin is going to find himself on the free agent list soon, even if he ends up getting drafted.
Draft Gem Candidate: Brice Butler- 21 years old, 6’3” & 211 #- San Diego State | 86 SPD, 88 ACC, 87 AGI, 75 CTH, 52 AWR, 86 JMP. Butler has the size where, if designated as the Draft Gem could go from basic roster filler to possible day 1 starter.
----------
TE’s- Top 3
1. Tyler Eifert- 22 years old, 6’6” & 250 #- Notre Dame | 83 SPD, 70 STR, ACC 88, CTH 83, PBK 53, RBK 48
Eifert has the skills to be an eleite pass catching TE.He will be an asset for whomever drafts him as he has SPD and ACC that could be around 85 and he could flirt with 90 ACC.
2. Dion Sims- 23 years old, 6’5” & 262 #- Michigan State | 84 SPD, 77 STR, 85 ACC, 79 CTH, 50 PBK, 55 RBK
Sims might had a bit less athletism than Eifert but he is much stronger. I think Sims will make a great SFL TE,
Jack Doyle- 23 years olf, 6’6” & 262 #- Western Kentucky | 82 SPD, 66 STR, 88 ACC, 80 CTH, 50 PBK, 53 PBK
Doyle has slightly less SPD but he comes in with excellent ACC and a very good CTH of 80.
TE- Bottom 3
1. Travis Kelce- 22 years old, 6’5” & 255 # | 67 SPD, 63 STR, 78 ACC, 81 CTH, 55 PBK, 54 RBK
Sorry to all you KC Chief fans but in this multiverse, it’s Travis who? Never heard of him, lol.
2. Ryan Griffin- 20 years old, 6’6” & 255 # | 67 SPD, 74 STR, 76 AC, 78 CTH, 44 PBK, 49 RBK
I do not think Griffin is going to be seeing much SFL time, however he may catch on as a TE2 or TE3 for someone.
3. Michael Williams- 22 years old, 6’6” & 269 # | 72 SPD, 69 STR, 78 ACC, 75 CTH, 38 PBK, 41 RBK
Williams is a horrible blocker and not a very good receiver which makes for a bad combination in the SFL. He also has a very poor 42 AWR.
Draft Gem Candidate : Levine Toilolo- 23 years old, 6’8” & 260 #- Stanford
Toilolo has awesome size at 6’8” but ridiculous bad STR at 60. If he would be the Draft Gem and add to his STR, AWR & CTH he could become a starting TE.
----------
FB- Top 1 Tommy Bohanon- 22 years old, 6’1” & 246 #- Wake Forest | 86 SPD, 85 STR, AGI 88, ACC 89, 54 PBK, 58 RBK
For me, this choice is easy, Bohanon is the top FB out of the four FB’s who have declared themselves available for the 2013 SFL draft. He is fast, strong and is a good blocker. He is going to be a starter in the SFL.
FB- Bottom 1 Zach Line- 23 years old, 6’0” & 232 # | 77 SPD, 68 STR, 77 AGI, 73 ACC, 43 PBK, 55 RBK
Draft Gem Candidate : None, due to the small amount of FB’s in this draft
----------
OT- Top 3
1. Eric Fisher- 22 years old, 6’7” & 306 #- Central Michigan | 72 SPD, 88 STR, 79 AGI, 86 ACC, 87 RBK, 86 PBK
This guy has it all. Sure, his STR is not elite but history has shown us STR is not as important as some think or have thought it is. This guy is going to be a future SFL pro bowler.
2. Menelik Watson- 23 years old, 6’5” & 310 #- Florida State | 70 SPD, 98 STR, 74 AGI, 76 AGI, 86 PBK, 87 RBK
Watson also brings it all plus he will come into the SFL nearly maxed out or maybe even maxed out at STR. This guy will be drafted early and for a good reason.
DJ Fluker- 22 years old, 6’5” & 339 #- Alabama | 61 SPD, 93 STR, 62 AGI, 73 ACC, 84 PBK, 95 RBK
There could have been several players put into this spot but I chose Fluker due to his all around ability to start from day 1. He has amazing blocking stats which might not make the lineman but surely help.
OT- Bottom
I tell you what, I am so impressed by this group of OT’s I am only going with 1 for the bottom list and truthfully he is not all that bad. The OT’s available may not all be superstars but I have never seen a group of OTs who are SFL roster ready. They all won’t be starters but again, I think all of these guys are roster worthy.
Reid Fragel- 23 years old, 6’8” & 308 # makes my bottom list. | 65 SPD, 83 STR, 67 AGI, 71 ACC, 81 PBK, 82 RBK
Draft Gem Candidate : Luke Joeckel- 21 years old, 6’6” & 306 # | 70 SPD, 89 STR, 69 AGI, 75 ACC, 88 PBK, 77 RBK
Joeckel could be someone who goes from “capable backup” to immediate starter with the right Draft Gem winning. His STR, AGI and RBK could all increase to the point where he becomes an anchor on the offensive line for a decade to come.
----------
OG- Top 3
1. Oday Aboushi- 23 years old, 6’5” & 308 #- Virginia | 67 SPD, 93 SPD, 62 AGI, 84 ACC, 85 PBK, 79 RBK
I think Aboushi is about as SFL ready as you can find for an OG in this draft.
Chance Warmack- 23 years old, 6’2” & 317 #- Alabama | 64 SPD, 92 STR, 57 AGI, 81 ACC, 83 PBK, 85 RBK
Warmack might not has the athletic abilities as others in this draft but he knows how to block and accelerate and should be a great pulling guard.
Larry Warford- 22 years old, 6’3” & 332 #- Kentucky | 62 SPD, 93 STR, 68 AGI, 70 ACC, 83 PBK, 89 RBK
Warford is going to make one SFL GM happy. His blocking stats are SFL ready and he is ready to prove it.
OG- Bottom 1
Simialr to how the OT’s review, I am only going to do a single bottom OL. Boy, this is the draft to rebuild a team’s OL. I went with Brian Winters with my bottom OG. He is 22 years old, 6’4” & 320 #. |63 SPD, 84 STR, 50 AGI, 73 ACC, 87 PBK, 78 RBK. Again, the OL in this draft are so good that it is hard to claim Winters as the bottom OG.
Draft Gem Candidate :Garrett Gilkey- 23 years old, 6’6” & 320 #- | 66 SPD, 96 STR, 74 AGI, 70 ACC, 81 PBK, 84 RBK. This is a tough one because I think Gilkey is a very good OL. I think the draft is so deep at OL that someone like Gilkey could drop to the 4th round. As a Draft Gem his stats might outshine others so anything that would increase would only increase Gilkey’s chances to be a starting SFL OG.
----------
C- Top 1
Due to the low number of C’s in this years draft I am doing only the top and bottom C’s.
At the top of my list is Travis Frederick- 21 years old, 6’4” & 312 #- Wisconsin | 65 SPD, 92 STR, 72 AGI, 73 ACC, 85 PBK, 92 RBK
You guessed it, this guy is SFL ready now. Plug him in and start him from day 1
C- Bottom 1
Arien Smith- 22 years old, 6’1” & 260 # |58 SPD, 85 STR, 55 AGI, 59 ACC, 81 PBK, 80 RBK
I simply do not believe Smith as the smith or ability to be successful in the SFL. There is not much more than that to say.
Draft Gem Candidate :Kevin McDermott- 24 years old, 6’5” & 340 # | 64 SPD, 91 STR, 72 AGI, 78 ACC, 82 PBK, 83 RBK
McDermott is pretty good as is. I think he will make it to the 4th round meaning if he won the Draft Gem he would only get better, making him attractive to start right away.
----------
K- Top 1
Jason Myers- 23 years old, 5’10” & 190 #- Marist Univeristy | KPW 92, KAC 87, AWR 60
Myers could be ready to start as soon as training camp is over.
K- Bottom 1
Dustin Hopkins- 25 years old, 6’2” & 185 # | KPW 90, KAC 83, AWR 58
Hopkins, in my opinion is not going to be able to get his KAC up high enough to be a starter in the SFL, nothing more than that, nothing less either.
Draft Gem Candidate : None
----------
P- Top 1
Sam Martin- 23 years old, 6’1” & 211 #- Appalachia State | KPW 94, KAC 86, AWR 55
Martin has the leg strength to punt in the SFL right now. He will need to work on his KAC a bit though.
P- Bottom 1
Tress Way- 23 years old, 6’1” & 220 #- | KPW 90, KAC 83, AWR 5
Way makes it as the bottom punter due to his average power and much less than average accuracy.
Draft Gem Candidate : None
----------
LE- Top 3
1. Malilicia Goodman- 23 years old, 6’4” & 276 #- Clemson | 85 SPD, 74 STR, 84 AGI, 82 ACC, 57 TAK
Goodman is fast with decent ACC. He is not a natural tackler though so we will have to see how he does right off the bat.
2. Ezekiel Anzah- 22 years old, 6’5” & 271 #- Brigham Young | 83 SPD, 77 STR, 75 AGI, 85 ACC, 62 TAK
Anzah should bring a nice athletic package to whichever SFL GM is willing to draft him. I think he will enjoy a nice, successful career in the SFL.
3. Bjoern Werner- 21 years old, 6’3” & 266 #- Florida State | 82 SPD, 74 STR, 81 AGI, 85 ACC, 69 TAK
I placed Werner here over other guys much as Barkevious Mingo because he has more weight on him and from what I have seen DL under 250 # more often than not simply do not work out.
LE- Bottom 1
Tourek Williams- 23 years old, 6’3” & 260 # |65 SPD, 68 STR, 60 AGI, 69 ACC, 61 TAK
In my opinion Williams simply lacks the skills to compete at the SFL level.
Draft Gem Candidate : Margus Hunt- 22 years old, 6’8” & 277 #- Southern Methodist University | 73 SPD, 78 STR, 79 AGI, 80 ACC, 58 TAK
Hunt is a freak athlete, He has history in discusses, hammer throw and other non football Olympic level athletic history. He is a field goal blocking legend in college. Hunt would be an amazing Draft Gem. He would see an increase in AWR since it is at an almost league low of 38. Hunt’s AWR is so low that I wonder if he will have an impact in the league if he does not someone hit paydirt and end up the Draft Gem.
----------
RE- Top 3
1. Dion Jordan- 23 years old, 6’6” & 248 #- Oregon | 87 SPD, 85 STR, AGI 86, ACC 86, TAK 66
Jordan is a beast. He has SPD of nearly 90, STR of 85, AGI & ACC of 86 and AWR of 83. These are simply crazy attributes. The only knock on him would be his weight of 248. One has to wonder, where would a GM play Jordan? I would think a move to LE would be the most popular but what about a move to OLB?
2. Sam Montgomery- 22 years old, 6’3” & 262 #- Louisiana State |85 SPD, 81 STR, 76 AGI, 85 ACC, 63 TAK
Montgomery is also going to more than likely be moved to LE in order to best utilize his speed.
3. William Gholston- 20 years old, 6’6” & 281 #- Michigan State | 75 STR, 81 STR, 70 AGI, 84 ACC, 63 TAK
I placed Gholston here above guys like Trevardo Williams in part due to his extremely young age of 20. Gholston may need a positive skew in a couple areas to really make his mark in the league so we will have to wait and see how things unfold.
RE- Bottom 1
Kapron Lewis-Moore- 23 years old, 6’4” & 298 #- 59 SPD, 71 STR, 74 AGI, 79 ACC, 65 TAK
Lewis-Moore does not have the speed to make it as a defensive end nor does he have thr strength to be converted to a defensive tackle. The future is not bright for Lewis-Moore.
Draft Gem Candidate : Trevardo Williams- 23 years old, 6’1” & 241 #- UConn | 86 SPD, 77 STR, 76 AGI, 71 ACC, 64 TAK
Williams could be a dream Draft Gem as he would have a shot to increase his AWR of 43 as well as his average STR of 77.
----------
DT- Top 3 3-4 Nose Tackle
1. John Jenkins- 24 years old, 6’4” & 359 #- Georgia | 63 SPD, 89 STR, 70 AGI, 71 ACC, 77 TAK
Jenkins is a beast. Wow, 359 #. This guy does not have the greatest STR but he is very agile and athletic for his size. He will be a great nose tackle in the SFL for a team who wants to run a 3-4 defense.
2. Montoir Hughes- 24 years old, 6’4” & 350 #- Tennessee Martin | 62 SPD, 95 STR, 70 AGI, 71 ACC, 60 TAK
Hughes is almost a copy of Jenkins but with more STR and less TAK. Take your pick, either of these guys are going to be great 3-4 tackles.
3. Jonathan Hankins- 22 years old, 6’3” & 320 #- Ohio State | 73 SPD, 89 STR, 76 AGI, 78 ACC, 80 TAK
I struggled on where to put Hankins as he has the size of a 3-4 nose tackle but the athletic ability of a very agile 43 tackle. This guy is going to be an interesting one to watch.
DT- Top 3 4-3 Defensive Tackle
1. Sylvester Williams- 23 years old, 6’3” & 313 #- North Carolina | 78 SPD, 88 STR, 75 AGI, 83 ACC, 78 TAK
This guy is going to be disruptive on the defensive line. Some GM’s may want to move him to DE. Personally, I would keep him at DT as he is in a league by himself.
2. Jared Smith- 23 years old, 6’3” & 315 #- New Hampshire | 70 SPD, 84 STR, 71 AGI, 81 ACC, 68 TAK
I placed Smith here due to his SPD and ACC. He may be more of a natural RE but due to these attributes he made my top 3 4-3 DT list.
3. Josh Boyd- 23 years old, 6’3” & 310 #- Mississippi State | 59 SPD, 95 STR, 73 AGI, 71 ACC, 68 TAK
Boyd is a stereotypical defensive tackle. He is not going to outrun anyone with his 59 SPD but there will not be many players than can shed him with his 95 STR.
DT- Bottom 1
Stacy McGee- 22 years old, 6’3” & 339 #- 66 SPD, 88 STR, 38 AGI, 72 ACC, 70 TAK
McGee’s numbers do not look bad until you get to his 38 AGI. To me this would be a huge warning sign and make McGee undraftable
Draft Gem Candidate : Stacy McGee- this is not a typo. While I think McGee’s 38 AGI makes him a player I would not want, everything changes if he were to be the Draft Gem. You would have a huge 3-4 nose tackle with perhaps an athletic 43 pass rusher build.
----------
MLB- Top 3
1. Kevin Minter- 22 years old, 6’0” & 246 #- Louisiana State | 84 SPD, 85 STR, 90 ACC, 88 TAK
There are some great, athletic MLB in this draft. The only knock on them would be their size. The Atlanta Falcons have proven that even small guys (ie: 5’11” Buster Davis can do great in the SFL. Minter has elite attributes at almost nearly every area you would look for.
2. Jonathan Bostic- 24 year sold, 6’1” & 245 #- Florida | 88 SPD, 80 STR, 90 ACC, 84 TAK
Another guy who might be a tad short but is awesome everywhere else. I think he will put up some impressive stats.
3. Paul Worrilow- 22 years old, 6’0” & 230 #- Delaware | 85 SPD, 81 STR, 87 ACC, 84 TAK
Ditto. Another fast MLB who is going to put up strong numbers for whomever drafts him.
MLB- Bottom 1
Jacoby Thomas- 22 years old, 6’0 & 235 # | 72 SPD, 75 STR, 71 ACC, 79 TAK
In my opinion Thomas lacks the SPD needed at MLB because he is not strong enough to be that strong MLB knocks the crap out of people and causes fumbles. He is destined to play in the XFL, USFL or for the San Diego Charger or Carolina Panthers since these two SFL teams are about XFL or USFL quality.
Draft Gem Candidate :Kiko Alonzo- 23 years old, 6’3” & 238 #- Oregon | 85 SPD, 63 STR, 87 ACC, 87 TAK
Alonzo has what it takes to be a superstar MLB in the SFL with the exception of STR. I have used MLB’s with low STR in the past but Alonzo could end up under 60 which is a huge issue. If he were to be the Draft Gem and have that STR increase to the 70-80’s he could be special.
