PICK | TEAM | PLAYER | ANALYSIS |
1.01 | | CB Xavier Rhodes | I've heard some rumors that this will be a surprise pick that will "shock" everyone. But I don't think so. Houston makes the right selection and brings in Xavier Rhodes who may be the only prospect without a fatal flaw in this entire draft. |
1.02 | | RE Dion Jordan | This is very much the type of player that GM Apolo Shapiro wants. He's unique and ready to play right away. His size may be a concern, but if anyone can figure that out, it's Apolo. There's a reason this pick was kept and not 1.03. |
1.03 | | WR Justin Hunter | This is the type of receiver that GM Daren Roberts has coveted in the past. He's moved on from some, in preference of top tier CBs...and it resulted in a Super Bowl berth. That being said, with a chance to grab one here, he won't hesitate. |
1.04 | | LT Eric Fisher | This seems like the correct range for the Saints to take a gander on Fisher. I also like the idea of Shawn Williams, but 1.04 seems too high for a safety. New Orleans has a couple of old OTs, so Fisher fits the bill nicely and if his STR skews up, it's well worth it. |
1.05 | | WR Robert Woods | GM Bryan Mellon knows how to work this. He's going to look at Woods' age of 20 years old and will know that he gets 10 years of solid play out of him. Of course, he'll lose the team by then, but the point remains. Woods will be a Buccaneer. |
1.06 | | CB David Amerson | What's not to like about a 6'3" CB? Hopefully his agility goes up, but the Bills need to completely rebuild their team, especially their secondary. Amerson is a good step in the right direction for a team that likely knows they need one more year to compete. |
1.07 | | HB Montee Ball | You heard it here first -- the first halfback off the board will be Montee Ball. Breck told us all! This seems like the type of player that new GM Shah Khan may target as he plans to move off of Tatum Bell during this mini rebuild in KC. |
1.08 | | LG Chance Warmack | It's been said -- I value the offensive line above all. Warmack looks like a life-long Pro Bowler and though he does play inside, his impact will be large if he plays on the correct team. With the top cornerbacks off the board, San Diego goes for the OL. |
1.09 | | WR DeAndre Hopkins | Jonathan Baldwin is gone and the Colts will need to replace him. Hopkins looks like less of a stud, but will likely play better in GM Darryl Breckheimer's offense. I like the pick and it seems right around the correct part of the draft. |
1.10 | | RT D.J. Fluker | The Colts are renovating their offense and that includes overhauling their offensive line. Fluker is a large man and should be a perennial blocked for this offense. Things continue to look up for the Colts -- that's if this pick isn't traded first (the PHI deal never went through). |
1.11 | | WR Cordarelle Patterson | The Redskins have a small window -- getting a stud like Patterson who can both be a deep threat as well a special teamer is important. Patterson could be the difference between an 8-8 season and a playoff berth, if given enough room to grow. |
1.12 | | WR Adam Thielen | This is where I think we begin to see our first run -- wide receivers fly off the board and people are trying to pick up a quality player before they are all gone. Thielen is decent, but could be a reach at this point. He will look good in a Rams jersey though. |
1.13 | | RT Menelik Watson | Denver finally has a franchise quarterback after their rookie decided to try running the ball (with 43 SPD lol). Watson will become his biggest defender and if GM Tom Collins wants Harnish to flourish, he needs to make sure he is protected. |
1.14 | | LE Bjoern Werner | This just feels right. It may be because GM Kevin Mullendore of the New York Jets made this dude a complete stud in the NAFL. There is some deja vu. But I could see him making this pick as well. Werner could be really good with a solid skew too. |
1.15 | | LT David Bakhtiari | Houston is methodical. But their offensive line is aging and will need to be replaced, especially after trading Eugene Monroe. Bakhtiari is likely the best remaining and should make for a good left tackle in Houston. Not sure I trust him on the blind side. |
1.16 | | QB Matt Barkley | I think that Brad Barber hit the nail on the head this morning. If New England stays in this spot, they very likely will draft a quarterback, with Barkley being the best available this year. They'll struggle post-Brady but Barkley could develop well. |
1.17 | | TE Tyler Eifert | My gut tells me the tight ends will drop in this draft. St. Louis needs more threats for John David Booty, so Eifert looks like a tasty snack for him to throw to. Word on the street is that his private work is "exceptional" as well -- but that could be smoke. |
1.18 | | WR Keenan Allen | He doesn't look great on paper, but Allen could be a consistent player for quite some time, similar to a lot of Bengals players we've seen over the years. Arizona would be a good spot for him too, as he would balanced well with their other receivers. |
1.19 | | LT Luke Joeckel | Well, this didn't work well in real life, but Jacksonville gets Joeckel considerably later than they did in the NFL. With a positive skew and a couple seasons of play time he could also be one of the better OTs in the league. Can't wait to see it. |
1.20 | | FS Duron Harmon | This is merely to annoy my new division rival. Can we really expect GM Brad Barber to take anyone other than a free safety? It's obviously the most important position and he hones in on them every draft. It's almost like he's the second coming of Jason Arnold. |
1.21 | | QB Mike Glennon | The second the mentor rule was officially posted, GM Kevin Mullendore traded for Big Ben. Why? Mike Glennon is the future QB in New York and he's ready to start pumping his awareness right now. Ben may play this year, but Glennon is the long-term starter. |
1.22 | | HB Eddie Lacy | This sounds crazy, but Lacy is going to drop in this draft. Yes, he looks great, but a closer look may expose him for what he really is. Mullendore has the patience to make him work, but anything earlier than this may get Lacy mentioned as a "bust." |
1.23 | | HB Latavius Murray | I'm sure that GM Rock Hewko would be licking his chops for Lacy, but Murray is the type of running back that he can make work as well. Murray reminds me a lot of Cedric Cobbs, who finally looks like his legs are done. I expect Murray to play a solid 8 years. |
1.24 | | DT Johnathan Hankins | This need has been identified and I like the fit. GM Norbert Huszti typically makes a solid choice and the player stays with his team long term. That's how I see Hankins playing out and I like it for Baltimore, who continues to improve. |
1.25 | | CB DeMarcus Milliner | I admit, this is an oversight on my part, but it's an hour until the draft and 30 minutes until the radio show starts, so Milliner drops and the Bengals get an absolute stud in the mid-20s. Enjoy it now Brady, because it won't happen! |
1.26 | | RT J.C. Tretter | Yes, I'm aware this pick has been traded, but it hasn't processed yet (it will soon). So for the purposes of this mock, Tretter gets the selection. He has a great ACC that should make him worth of being a first round selection. I like it. |
1.27 | | CB Darius Slay | This feels like the range I would expect Slay to get drafted in. He's slightly taller than your average cornerback, but his CTH + AWR has to be a concern. With a good private workout, this could be an absolute steal, which is usually what the Saints get. |
1.28 | | SS Shawn Williams | There have been some mocks with Williams in the top 5. Some with him dropping. I feel like he's the type of player that new GM Garth Pearce won't let past him and would be an impact player for years to come in Atlanta. And he's good value at this point. |
1.29 | | MLB Jonathan Bostic | I have two things to say about this selection. 1) MLBs almost always drop in these drafts and 2) Neal always picks himself a stud, whether it's a position of need or not. I think he would gladly select Bostic, despite his age. |
1.30 | | RT Ricky Wagner | At the end of the day, go with what you're most comfortable with. Ricky Wagner is a starting worthy offensive tackle and GM Phil Mellon likes his players large and in charge. Wagner fits the bill as Carolina continues to build a studly offensive line. |
1.31 | | CB Desmond Trufant | It's been about 4 hours since GM Anthony Fernandez has complained about Nnamdi's contract (which should be noted to have been offered BEFORE the regression rules were announced). Trufant is a solid selection and should ease his conscience a little. |
1.32 | | DT Sylvester Williams | I saw this mocked earlier and I really like the pick. AF has said he wishes to fixed the middle of his defensive line and Sylvester Williams is a sneaky good player at a very unsexy position. He won't care and Williams becomes a Dallas Cowboy. |
