Lovin’ the Middle Rounds of the Draft- Picks I thought were good in rounds 2 and 3
2.1-
LE-Bjoern Warner- He’s an athletic DE who is only 21 years old. Daren seems to target the top of each round and it makes sense. Good pick from a good draft spot.
2.3-
QB-Mike Glennon- The QB’s this year weren’t as good as the QB’s in year’s past but I did like Glennon. He’s 6’7” and 21 years old. The Cowboys currently lack a mentor which would be ideal but I’m sure AF is working the phones.
2.9-
MLB-Mani T’eo- There were a few elite MLB’s taken in round 1 but to come back here in round 2 with T’eo is excellent value. He’s close to elite in his SPD and ACC combo and he’s decent sized too. I’m sure Kevin is looking forward to seeing him on the field in New York.
2.11-
RT-Ricky Wagner- Sometimes when a certain position seems to be lagging behind expectations the assumption is all the players at that position are skewing down. However, Tom found a really good one in Wagner. He’s got elite physical attributes even if he might take a little time to get up to speed.
2.21-
SS-Jamoris Slaughter- The Raiders made a great selection in round 2 by securing Slaughter at pick 2.21. Preworkout he has a 90 SPD and ACC combo with decent hands and good tackling. I didn’t love the Raiders 1st round pick but I did like this one.
2.30-
LE-Barkevious Mingo- The Patriots select a guy at the end of round 2 who showed up in a lot of round 1 mocks. I don’t know the private workout on Mingo but if is similar to his initial numbers I think the Patriots hit the jackpot with him.
2.31-
C-Travis Frederick- Romeo occasionally comes up with a really good gem and I think Frederick could be this year’s version. He has great blocking skills to go along with good overall physical attributes. I’m not sure if he is going to start but I definitely think I can.
3.3-
RG-Larry Warford- He wasn’t initially on my radar but a second pass through the class surfaced him and I think the Chargers could have gotten an immediate starter IF (and that’s a big IF) his ACC doesn’t drop. Preferably his ACC would go up but as long as it doesn’t go down he’ll be good.
3.12-
RE-Cornelius Washington- Initially I refused to acknowledge him because of his low ACC but he started to rise up my board when I separated out that ACC and then I saw a private workout which had his ACC at 71 and I’m sold. Now you can debate where to put him on the line. I would try him at DT but a case can also be made for RE and LE.
3.19-
SS-D.J. Swearinger- So he’s old at 24 but he’s another 90 SPD and 90 ACC guy with great tackle too. This is the sweet spot for getting starting safeties and the Jaguars can check that box with Swearinger.
3.25-
RG-Edmund Kugbila- Kugbila is another older player but I think he’s sneaky good. He doesn’t have the SPD I would want and that maybe is what kept him from being drafted sooner but outside of that and some lower AWR he’s good. I think AC did a great job of finding value this late in round 3.
3.32-
CB-Tharold Simon- I confess I’m not sure the private workout here, but a 6’2” CB with 90 SPD has some potential. Garth knows how to find these guys and bring them along well. Plus taking over a Super Bowl championship roster allows him to bring along some players that may need time.
