The Draft
1.11 WR Jalen Hurd | College: Baylor | Height: 6-5 | Weight: 230 lbs | Age: 21

Draft Rating: 5 / 5

Attributes:
Overall: 79
Speed: 92
Strength: 58
Awareness: 51
Agility: 90
Acceleration: 94
Catch: 86
Jump: 83

Projection: Starting X Wide Receiver

Big Board Rank: #5

Draft Notes:The Dolphins didn't have a need at receiver, especially following free agency as they bolstered the depth of the unit. However, Hurd fell to 11 and in the pre-draft process, Dolphins scouts viewed Hurd as being very similar to James Hardy, drafted by Miami 2nd overall in 2008. Hurd has fantastic hands and ability to separate, plus a large frame and catch radius.

Below is the comparison between Hardy and Hurd when they were drafted:

Height =
Weight -5lbs
Speed -3
Strength +5
Awareness -4
Agility =
Acceleration +4
Catch +4
Jump -3

Plus, at just 21, Hurd has plenty of time to develop.

WR Chris Conley will occupy the slot and five Miami a fearsome trio of pass catchers.

The remainder of the draftees, with the exception of 5.11 P Jake Bailey | College: Stanford| Height: 6-2 | Weight: 202 lbs | Age: 21 | OVR 83 | AWR 57 | KPW 90 KAC 89, are cheap depth.

Free Agency
The Dolphins have identified a number of free agent targets post draft.

Dolphins 2017 Starting Lineup Revealed

2017 Projected Starting Lineup

DEFENSE
Secondary
CB Chidobe Awuzie | FS Justin Simmons | SS Harrison Smith | CB David Amerson | CB Cordrea Tankersley | CB Sidney Jones

Linebackers
ROLB Samson Ebukan | ILB Stephone Anthony | WILB Chris Borland | LOLB Kyler Fackerell

Defensive Line
RE Ed Stinson | NT Terrence Cody | 3-T Sheldon Rankins | LE Bjorn Werner

OFFENSE
Offensive Line
LT Joel Bitonio | LG Mike Johnson | C Ivon Blackmon | RG Amini Silatolu | RT Anthony Costanzo

Skill Positions
QB Marcus Mariota | HB Jeremy Hill | WR Chris Conley | WR Kenny Golladay | WR Dorial Green-Beckham | WR Patrick Turner | TE Austin Sefarain-Jenkins | FB Macon Lewa

Special Teams
KR/PR Terrance Gannaway | C Ivan Blackman | K Dan Carpenter | P Brenden Bowden

Notes:
Five rookies will start for the Dolphins in the 2017 season.

Defense
The defense brings in 5 new starters, including 2nd round picks CBs Chidobe Awuzie, LB Samson Ebukan and CB Cordrea Tankersley.

The defensive line is unchanged but the LB corps has two new starters - rookie Samson Ebukan replaces the departed Von Miller and Stephone Anthony will be acquired from Oakland to fill the MLB spot.

The starting secondary unit comprises of an unchanged safety tandem in Harrison Smith and sophomore Justin Simmons, who had himself an excellent rookie season. David Amerson leads the corner backs, with rookies CBs Chidobe Awuzie, CB Cordrea Tankersley and CB Sidney Jones rounding off a young but talented group.

Key Man: CB Chidobe Awuzie - the 22 year old replaces Akasi Owusu-Ansah, who was traded to Houston. He has all the physical gifts to excel but will take his lumps. He will be mentored by David Amerson

Offense
With three new starters, including rookie WR Kenny Golladay and trade acquisition Chris Conley, the offense is a stable unit. The main question marks surround the ability of Marcus Mariota to build on an encouraging second half to his sophomore season .However, the WR corps has been vastly upgraded and should greatly aid his development.

The trade of TE Larry Donnell was based on limited production from the TE spot. After 800 yards in his rookie season he has averaged around 400 a year. Can Austin Sefarian-Jenkins be a 400 yard a year target?

Key Man: QB Marcus Mariota - the 23 year old's stats are mediocre at best but with his awareness now at 77, expectations are high he can get over the hump.

2017 Dolphins Draft
Press: Dolphins rebuild defense, add top receiver

The Dolphins needs pre and post draft as below:
* Starting CB-- Filled
* Starting WR -- Filled
* Starting ROLB-- Filled
* Punter-- Filled
* Backup QB-- Filled

The Draft
1.7 WR Kenny Golladay | College: N. Illinois | Height: 6-4 | Weight: 214 lbs | Age: 22 |

Draft Rating: 5 / 5

Attributes:
Overall: 81
Speed: 96
Strength: 65
Awareness: 57
Agility: 90
Acceleration: 97
Catch: 78
Jump: 97

Projection: Starting Y Wide Receiver

Big Board Rank: #5

Draft Notes:The Dolphins primary needs were CB then WR. They had seriously considered CB Tredavious White at 7 but felt Golladay was too good to pass. Tall, fast, strong, explosive - Golladay, along with newly acquired Chris Conley gives the Dolphins a fearsome receiving duo, backed up by the 6-5 Dorial Green-Beckham, for the next 6 years.

1.17 OT Cam Robinson | College: Alabama | Height: 6-6 | Weight: 310 lbs | Age: 21

Draft Rating: 4.5 / 5

Attributes:
Overall: 79
Speed: 69
Strength: 96
Awareness: 72
Agility: 78
Acceleration: 84
Pass Block: 79
Run Block: 78

Projection: Starting RT, will be switched from LT

Big Board Rank: #11

Draft Notes:The Dolphins were hoping CB Tredavious White would fall to 17 but alas, that was not to be. They re-focussed on the best player available - Robinson's age (21) and high awareness (72) came into play, as well as his off the chart athleticism. His blocking needs work but he will take over when Anthony Costranzo starts to regress.

2.8 CB Cordrea Tankersley | College: Clemson | Height: 6-0 | Weight: 200 lbs | Age: 23

Draft Rating: 4.5 / 5

Attributes:
Overall: 79
Speed: 93
Strength: 40
Awareness: 62
Agility: 92
Acceleration: 99
Catch: 65
Jump: 95
Tackle: 62

Projection: Nickel / Dime CB

Big Board Rank: #Round 1

Draft Notes:The Dolphins decided to play the probability game with what was a deep CB class. Tankersley was a 1st round talent - even mocked as a Top 10 pick in some places - but fell out of the 1st round. His sub-par strength (40) or being 23 may have figured into reckoning but at pick 40 he was to good to pass up. He skewed nicely and is a legitimate starting CB. He was projected as the #1 CB on the depth chart until a few picks later.

2.11 CB Chidobe Awuzie | College: Colorado | Height: 5-11 | Weight: 205 lbs | Age: 22

Draft Rating: 5 / 5

Attributes:
Overall: 78
Speed: 96
Strength: 48
Awareness: 56
Agility: 96
Acceleration: 99
Catch: 63
Jump: 93
Tackle: 60

Projection: Starting CB / #1 on depth chart

Big Board Rank: #Round 1

Draft Notes:The Dolphins decided to play the probability game with what was a deep CB class. It was only a toin coss in between who was selected 1st out of Tankerlsey and Awuzie. Awuzie slid down board, likely due to his height (5-11) and sub-optimal strength (4Cool. However, his other attributes are elite and starting from 56 awareness, at 22, will become an excellent player. Reminds me of old Miami favourite Patrick Surtain, he will also be sent to Training Camp and will be mentored.

2.13 LOLB Samson Ebukan | College: Eastern Washington | Height: 6-3 | Weight: 245 lbs | Age: 23

Draft Rating: 4.5 / 5

Attributes:
Overall: 79
Speed: 88
Strength: 79
Awareness: 61
Agility: 84
Acceleration: 87
Jump: 63
Tackle: 73

Projection: Starting ROLB, will be switched over from LOLB

Big Board Rank: #Round 1

Draft Notes:Ebukam was mocked to Miami by numerous folk and to find him there at 45 was a steal. Stellar attributes - only knocks are his age (23) and tackling (73). He will be moved over to the right side and will take the place of the departed Von Miller.

4.1 CB Sidney Jones | College: Washington | Height: 6-0 | Weight: 181 lbs | Age: 22

Draft Rating: 4 / 5

Attributes:
Overall: 79
Speed: 92
Strength: 50
Awareness: 66
Agility: 88
Acceleration: 95
Catch: 66
Jump: 87
Tackle: 63

Projection: Dime CB on depth chart

Big Board Rank: #Round 3

Draft Notes:Jones was the best player available on the board and its just a pity for him that Miami drafted 2 immense talents ahead of him.

4.21 QB Chad Kelly | College: Ole' Miss | Height: 6-2 | Weight: 216 lbs | Age: 22

Draft Rating: 4 / 5

Attributes:
Overall: 73
Speed: 61
Strength: 53
Awareness: 68
Throw Power: 91
Throw Accuracy: 74

Projection: Backup QB

Big Board Rank: #Round 3

Draft Notes:The Dolphins needed someone behind Mariota and Kelly has excellent awareness for a rookie. He will be sent to training camp.

Free Agency
The Dolphins have identified a number of free agent targets post draft. LT Justin Pugh will be moved to LG which means Miami will meet roster requirements.

Training Camp, Player Development, Position Changes, Mentor Programme
CB Chidobe Awuzie | Training Camp
QB Chad Kelly| Training Camp
LOLB Samson Ebukan | Position Change: ROLB
LT Cam Robinson | Position Change: RT

Trades

==============================================================
Future Trade: send: ILB Stephone Anthony --- send MIA-1 [2018] - This deal was agreed just before the draft and will be processed when picks are available. Chris Borland played well when James Laurinitis was traded but the 25 year old Anthony represents an upgrade and an elite Inside 'backer.

Dolphins Pre-Draft Update
Press: Dolphins Update 18/10

The Draft, Trades and Free Agency
The Dolphins have the 7th and 17th overall picks following on from a couple of trades.

Draft Picks and Needs
1.7
1.17
2.8
2.11
2.13
4.1
4.21

Wide Receiver
WR Patrick Turner has been excellent in South Beach but time waits for no man. A bonafide #1 receiver is atop of the Dolphins shopping list.

Trade Alert The trade for Texans' standout Chris Conley addresses this position.

Right Defensive End
RE Ed Stinson is solid but unspectacular. If an upgrade can be made, it will be done. Don't be surprised to see this addressed via the draft.

Right Outside Linebacker
The excellent Von Miller leaves for Texas and leaves a void. Miami is considering options in free agency, via trade and the draft.

💵 Free Agent Signing💵 Sio Moore was resigned during free agency, and Randell Johnson, formerly with , was also signed. Both can do serviceable jobs as starters.

Cornerback
The excellent Akasi Owusu-Ansah also leaves for Texas and leaves a larger void. Miami is likely focussing on the draft after having numerous trade offers rebuffed in a tight cornerback market.

Punter
💵 Free Agent Signing💵 Brent Bowden hits free agency and has already attracted numerous suitors. Miami won the bidding war.

💵 Free Agency 💵
The Dolphins signed 6 free agents.

Brent Bowden P 30 6'3" 210 - 1 year deal
Ivon Blackman C 27 6'3" 310 - 3 year deal
Jarran Reed DT 24 6'3" 311 - 3 year deal
Sio Moore ROLB 26 6'1" 245 - 3 year deal
J. J. Wilcox FS 26 6'0" 215 - 3 year deal
Randell Johnson ROLB 24 6'3" 242 - 3 year deal

Cap and Cuts
None to be reported.

Trades
1.12, 1.25 to for 1.7, 2.13 -- The 'fins has numerous targets and felt a move inside the top 10 was needed. The rationalised some picks - they had 10 - and will net an impact player at 7..

2.22, 2.27 to for 2.11 -- The 'fins wanted to be picking atop the 2nd round, where some 1st round talent will slip. Job done..

Cap and Cuts

Trades
send ROLB Von Miller, CB Akasi Owusu-Ansah, 4.29 to for 2.8 WR Chris Conley -- A receiver was a primary need and Conley fills that. Only 24 but with explosive attributes across the board, the 6-3 Georgia standout will form a dangerous tandem alongside Dorial Green-Beckham.

send TE Larry Donnell, 2.12 to for 1.17-- Donnell is a phenom at the position but Miami coaches feel they could get similar production from Austin Seferian-Jenkins, who is also just 24..

It is also rumoured that Miami are in talks with numerous parties with regards to trades, mainly around draft capital. This focuses around a move up both the 1st and 2nd rounds and more will be shared once trades have been processed.
