The Philadelphia Eagles took to the field with a lot to prove in their season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fresh off a disappointing 3-14 season, the team was eager to change the narrative and showcase their retooled roster in front of a home crowd. The energy at Lincoln Financial Field was electric as fans hoped for a glimpse of a brighter season ahead. And they were not disappointed. The Eagles secured a hard-fought 24-17 victory, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting season. Here’s a closer look at the heroes of the game who made this victory possible.
QB Mark Sanchez:
Sanchez stepped onto the field like a man on a mission, silencing doubters with an impressive performance. Completing 9 of 14 passes for a 64.3% completion rate, he racked up 188 yards and threw 2 touchdowns with zero interceptions, achieving a stellar 147.3 QBR. Iggles Update - Six Game-Changing Players in 2019 |
In a move that has the entire football world buzzing, the Philadelphia Eagles swooped in and drafted six absolute beasts in the 2019 SFL Draft. These new additions aren't just expected to make an impact – they're predicted to leave a trail of destruction in their wake, wreaking havoc on the SFL football league as we know it.
With a wink and a nod to their fans, the Eagles front office declared, "We're here to play, and we're here to win." And win they will, with a roster now bolstered by the likes of these six gridiron gladiators:
1.23 HB Tony Pollard
Tony Pollard join the team as this year’s top HB in the draft. We were really fortunate for this bulldozer to fall so deep in the first round, it was an obvious pick for an obvious need for our roster. Pollard barrels through defensive lines like a freight train. Tackling him is like trying to stop a bulldozer with a paper clip. Starting his career at OVR 83, with 92 SPD, 83 STR, 91 ACC, and 84 BTK we think Pollard is elite talent and an obvious starter in week 1.
1.26 MLB Devin White
With our second selection we took MLB Devin White, our top MLB in the draft this year. This guy hits harder than a Philly cheesesteak and has the speed to match. Opposing quarterbacks? Start trembling now. Starting at 81 OVR with 85 SPD, 85 ACC, and an incredible 93 TAK, we weighted the options of age vs progression and felt that the 24 year old, starting at 93 TAK, will be a top MLB in only a few short seasons. We’re fortunate for White to fall so far in the 26th pick of the first round and we look forward to pairing him with MLB Nick Kwiatkoshi in week 1.
3.08 LOLB Ryan Connelly
After a bit of a break we rejoined the draft in the 3rd round. Ryan Connelly was our first pick of the 3rd round. This guy's so badass, even his shadow gets out of the way when he steps on the field. Known for his bone-crushing tackles and lightning-fast speed, Connelly is here to send a message: the Eagles' defense just got a serious upgrade. He has potential starting with 80 SPD, 86 STR, 84 ACC, and 77 TAK. We weighed our options at this starting OLB position with our next pick at 3.16
3.16 ROLB Andrew Van Ginkle
Andrew Van Ginkle was our insurance play. We have a need at OLB and both players will have a role as starter or backup. When Van Ginkle hits, it’s like Thor's hammer coming down. SFL quarterbacks will have nightmares about this guy. Van Ginkle has a respectable 77 SPD, 76 STR, 86 ACC, and 75 TAK. Both OLBs in the 3rd round will need work, but I think we have the start of something serviceable and an opportunity for next season for improvement.
6.02 C Austin Cutting
This guy's built like a brick wall and moves like a ballerina (well, a really big, tough ballerina). Tank's here to create a no-fly zone for defenders and pave the way for our running game. Cutting will be our backup Center for the following season. His best qualities are 90 STR, and 82 RBK.
7.05 LT Dennis Daley
As immovable as the Rocky statue, Daley will be protecting our QB like Fort Knox. Good luck getting past this human wall. Daley will be our backup option at OT. His best stats are 97 STR, 71 ACC, 81 PBK.
Philadelphia, brace yourselves. These six rookies aren't just coming to play – they're coming to dominate. Fans can look forward to a season of explosive plays, bone-crushing tackles, and victory celebrations that will make the Rocky Steps look like a Sunday stroll.
