Breaking: Tom Brady Retiring?
Multiple reports from those close to Tom Brady suggest that Tom Brady may have thrown his last ball in tonight's win against the Dolphins. Brady has reportedly been considering retirement all season, and is expected to make an official decision shortly after the super bowl. A statement from an anonymous source stated that "Brady looks like he may be done at this point. Not many QB's play past this point in their careers, and it would be unreasonable to think that he could play in his late 30's or even into his 40's. I mean that would be insane if he played until, say, 45. But that wouldn't happen. This is most likely it for him."

The 36 year old quarterback has been up and down season including missing most of 2 games to an injury. Brady ended his season and possibly his career with 5 straight games of a 100+ QBR only throwing 1 INT during that time after throwing 20 up to that point. The Patriots have had a disappointing season plagued by injuries that ended in a 6-10 record, making this the first time in Brady's career that his team has missed the playoffs for 2 consecutive seasons.

Should Brady retire, the Patriots would be in unfamiliar territory, as Brady has been the teams QB since before the inception of the SFL. It's currently unknown what the Patriots plan is moving forward after Brady's retirement. Current backup QB Kevin O'Connell doesn't seem like a solution to an open QB situation.

Will Tom Brady hang up the cleats? Or does he have one last season left in him, and try to finish on top? We will find out soon enough!

Patriots Announce 2013 Starting Lineup

Offense

QB: Tom Brady
HB: Doug Martin
HB: Javid Best
FB: Mewelde Moore
WR: Andre Johnson
WR: LaVon Brazill
WR: Armanti Edwards
LT: Johnathan Martin
LG: Casey Studdard
C: Morgan Cox
RG: Josh Sitton
RT: Chris DeGeare

Breakdown:

Tom Brady looks like he will likely retire this season, and I do not have a replacement for him yet. I passed on a QB in the first round, thinking he would fall to the early 2nd round, but didn't count on a division rival taking him when they did.

Doug Martin was a contender for OROY last season, and looks to build on that strong season. I expect him to have a big year. Javid Best moves into HB 2 role after Donald Brown signed with the Chargers this offseason. Best is a little bit of a step down from Brown, but he is still capable of doing a good job.

I resigned Andre Johnson, but I did trade Jaymar Johnson to the Colts. Last seasons draft gem LaVon Brazill looks to step into a larger role after his recent rookie progression.

The OL will be mostly the same, except Chris Snee left during FA. Sophomore Johnathan Martin will take on the starting role at LT. most of the depth on the OL has been replaced with regressing RT Adrien Clarke as the top backup

Defense

CB:Johnathan Joseph
CB: Jimmy Smith
CB: Johnny Patrick
FS: Roman Harper
SS: DaJuan Morgan
ROLB: Mike Humpal
MLB: E.J. Henderson
MLB: Barrett Ruud
LOLB: Chris Chamberlain
RE: Erasmus James
DT: Frank Okam
LE: Charles Grant

Breakdown:

Not much change with the starters in the secondary other than Johnny Patrick taking on more of a full time NCB role instead of sharing it with Devin McCourty who was traded to the Packers. Rookie Kenny Vaccaro was competing for the starting FS position, but needs a little more time to progress over the next 1-2 seasons.

ROLB Demorrio Williams was not re-signed this offseason due to regression, but LOLB Mike Humpal will move over to the right side. E.J. Henderson was signed from free agency and will be the lead MLB, with Barrett Ruud moving to the secondary MLB position after his regression. Rookie AJ Klein will take this next season to learn from his new mentor Barrett Ruud.

On the D-line LE Charles Grant was signed as a temporary replacement for SFL sack leader Richard Seymour. It is hard to replace Seymour, but I did sign Barkevious Mingo to eventually take that position.

Special Teams

KR: Armanti Edwards
PR: Armanti Edwards
K: Justin Tucker
P: Kevin Huber

Breakdown:

Armanti Edwards had some success last season as a KR man, but will also take over as a PR man as well with Donald Brown leaving. Justin Tucker started last season, but cost us a few games which ultimately eliminated us from the playoffs. I had to bring in another kicker, but it was too late. I expect Tucker to be better this season, but I'm not sure by how much. We'll see if he's starting by the end of the season.

Patriots Quick Draft Re-Cap
1.27 - WR Clarence Moore - 6'6" 211 lbs

Skew - 85 SPD | 56 STR | 58 AWR | 86 AGI | 86 ACC | 75 CTH
Real - 87 SPD | 52 STR | 58 AWR | 86 AGI | 84 ACC | 74 CTH

I went through a bit of a dilemma when taking Moore, but the temptation of taking the only 6'6" receiver in the league was a bit too hard to pass up. 74 CTH keeps him from being too much of a project, but he would still benefit greatly from a little work. I could realistically get him to 90 SPD, which would be huge in this league.

His real stats were about what I expected after using a workout on him.

2.27 - SS Michael Boulware - 6'2" 225 lbs

Skew - 82 SPD | 71 STR | 68 AWR | 82 AGI | 84 ACC | 66 CTH | 79 TAK
Real - 83 SPD | 67 STR | 66 AWR | 82 AGI | 84 ACC | 66 CTH | 77 TAK

I'm under the belief that the thing that matters most with safeties is high progressible stats.

For other positions, you may see plenty of progression to make up for rough starts, but safeties don't get much of anything. Half of the reason I took Michael Boulware here was his ridiculously good Tackling, AWR and STR on top of his size. Unfortunately, most of these stats were hurt by the skew, but with a little work he'll still make an excellent starter.

3.27 - DT Donnell Washington - 6'5" 332 lbs

Skew - 55 SPD | 94 STR | 35 AWR | 64 AGI | 66 ACC | 72 TAK
Real - 55 SPD | 96 STR | 37 AWR | 66 AGI | 65 ACC | 70 TAK

This was a pick more for need than talent. DT's were flying off the board, and Washington was the last guy I could see myself even starting. At 96 STR and a decent size, Washington should be starting caliber. I've never been a fan of drafting elite caliber Defensive Tackles anyway.

4.6 - HB Mewelde Moore - 5'10" 209 lbs

Skew - 85 SPD | 88 STR | 73 AWR | 84 AGI | 88 ACC | 74 CAR | 80 BTK
Real - 85 SPD | 84 STR | 72 AWR | 84 AGI | 86 ACC | 75 CAR | 76 BTK

Moore's superb AWR, decent CAR and BTK was just the cherry on top for the 88 STR. However, I knew the 88 itself was bit too much to ask for, so I figured that it was going to go down. On the other hand, I did have some hopes that it would somehow go up and I could have a HB with 90 Strength. However, that simply wasn't meant to be. At 5'10" and 209 lbs he's not the ideal size, but at 4.6, I think he's a steal.

I'm not sure Moore will be a good HB, so I plan to move him to FB. though I may give him some snaps at HB first to see how he does.

4.27 - FS Matt Ware - 6'3" 218 lbs

Skew - 82 SPD | 51 STR | 62 AWR | 81 AGI | 87 ACC | 60 CTH | 65 TAK
Real - 82 SPD | 52 STR | 63 AWR | 82 AGI | 85 ACC | 60 CTH | 64 TAK

I'm a little surprised this guy was still on the board at the end of the fourth. He's a 6'3" FS with only one real flaw. I'm not sure why this guy was still there to be honest. I may have to put some work in him just so I can have an elite safety for a late fourth round pick.

5.27 - CB Christian Morton - 6'1" 188 lbs

Skew - 87 SPD | 47 STR | 50 AWR | 94 AGI | 89 ACC | 55 CTH | 50 TAK
Real - 89 SPD | 49 STR | 52 AWR | 90 AGI | 90 ACC | 53 CTH | 52 TAK

I picked Morton mostly for gem potential, but also because his 87 speed seems a little off when compared to his AGI/ACC. thankfully, the risk paid off because his SPD went up to 89. However, his awareness and tackling is still rough, and I don't know if I can rationalize putting much work into him. This might be a player I try to trade away for a bit of profit instead of letting die on my roster.

6.27 - LOLB Jorge Cordova - 6'1" 188 lbs

Skew - 79 SPD | 64 STR | 59 AWR | 78 AGI | 78 ACC | 62 CTH | 79 TAK
Real - 82 SPD | 64 STR | 57 AWR | 80 AGI | 80 ACC | 58 CTH | 79 TAK

Cordova was taken almost 100% for draft gem potential, but I still thought he had a lot of chance at a good skew, and boy was I right. +3 SPD, +2 AGI +2 ACC turns Cordova into the best skew in the draft for me this year. his 64 STR and 57 AWR will probably keep him as a backup, but a pretty good backup for the price in my opinion.
