Washington Dives into Free Agency Pool with 45 Minutes to Sp |
The Washington Redskins, not expected to be active in the first round of free agency surprised many the US capital by bidding on four players.
"I suck more with Top Three bidding than I do with the Draft," quipped GM Bill Ryan. "I never know what to bid, so my secret strategy was to compare UFA candidates against the Dolphins' actual roster, and make my best guess from there. Either I won't get any of them because I underbid, or I'll get all three at outrageously inflated offers and hamstring myself in cap space. There is no middle ground option."
Oh yeah, and scroll up. There's a poll. It sucks too. |

Notes from the Underbelly: Week 13 |
Washington DC
Rookie Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater posted his first triple-digit passer rating ever and statistically best game to date today against the Atlanta Falcons.
GM Bill Ryan had the opportunity to watch the game live and is reportedly elated at the young hurler’s performance.
Bridgewater threw for just 11 of 23, but two of those were touchdown passes and none of them were interceptions. Factor in a total of 209 yards earned in the air and one for 78 yards alone, and today was exactly what this team gambled on when deciding in the offseason to start the rookie over veteran Carson Palmer.
In other areas of the game, six-time Pro Bowler Musa Smith came with three yards of nothing his third 100-yard game of the season.
Ryan had this to say of the defensive unit, “We’re still struggling on defense. I would say at this moment that defensive player should be going into the off-season thinking their job is secure.”

Notes from the Underbelly: Week 2 |
Press conference starts:
GM Bill Ryan: I don't have any opening statements today, let's just get the questions over with.
Reporter: Three interceptions, and four other throws that could have or should have been interceptions. Do you think it was a mistake to put Bridgewater in at starter?
Ryan: No.
Reporter: um, could you elaborate?
Ryan: The strategy was decided in the off season to get him out there while Carson is still on the squad and able to mentor him. Pull him out now, and these first two losses were for nothing. No, we knew the risks and the probability of it being a rocky start.
Reporter: When would you consider making a change?
Ryan: Let's wait for the first progression numbers come out and see where we are then. For right now, he's starting.
Reporter: What was the hardest part of the game to see, for you?
Ryan: Um, let's see. The four touchdown passes thrown by Glennon. The three interceptions we threw, two of them during scoring opportunities. The missed field goal by Janikowski that was well within his range in an indoor stadium. The constant and excruciating awareness that TIMMAY Miller isn't in the league this season. I mean, take your pic.
Reporter: Next week, the Redskins travel back to the Lone Star State to take on the Texans. You mentioned adjusting the offense after last week. Will you make more changes?
Ryan: Well I could photocopy the game plan and send a copy to Wade Pearce, wouldn't that be easier? And stop calling it the Lone Star State. It's Texas. I hate Texas.
Reporter: Care to make any predictions for next week?
Ryan: Yeah, more stupid questions like these. |

Notes from the Underbelly: Week 1 |
Week One was an exciting game at FedEx Field this week.... if you were from Minnesota.
Things didn't start out too terribly, with the Minnie Vikes up by just 7 at the end of the first quarter.
From early in the second quarter, however, the writing began to appear on the wall. Your Washington Redskins didn't post a single point for the entire first half, while allowing the Vikings to visit the end zone twice more before the half was mercifully over.
After a rousing halftime pep talk, the team came out ready to kick some Viking ass. Rookie QB and first round draft choice Teddy Bridgewater connected with Musa Smith, for an 82 yard touchdown pass; which was answered on the first play of the Viking's next drive with a 72 yard touchdown pass.
The Redskins posted one touchdown after (also Smith) that while allowing 28 more points to be registered by the Purple People Eaters.
Washington GM had this to say, "I blame myself. Poor game planning, pure and simple. We'll be making changes there for the game in Dallas this Sunday." |
