In a surprise move the 49ers broke off contract talks with Derek Smith, shortly there after a team press release claimed excessive demands from his agent were to blame. Inside sources report GM Peter Fenger said "I'd sooner pay that much to see a squirl eat nuts off of Steve Mariucci's ass! Derek Smith is done here."
